Update From Mr James Easthope
Hi everyone,
It has been another positive and productive period across our campus, and it continues to be encouraging to see the strong culture of learning developing among our students. Their engagement, initiative, and commitment to their learning journey are becoming increasingly evident on our campus.
As we take a look at this week, we will be commencing NAPLAN testing. NAPLAN provides a useful snapshot of how students are progressing in key areas such as literacy and numeracy. While these assessments are standardised across Australia, it is important for students to remember that they are simply one of many tools used to support learning. The results help teachers better understand areas of strength and identify opportunities for further development, allowing us to tailor learning experiences that best support each student. We encourage our students to approach the tests with confidence, do their very best, and remember that these assessments do not define them, they simply help guide teaching staff on the next steps in their learning journey.
Another highlight for our campus is the continued growth we are seeing in our Self-Directed Learning culture. Our students have now booked 129 tutorials for the term so far, and the number continues to climb. This is a fantastic achievement for being just over half way through the term, and a strong reflection of the learning culture developing across our campus. Tutorials provide students with opportunities to seek clarification, deepen their understanding, and take ownership of their learning. The initiative our students are showing in accessing these supports demonstrates that they are genuinely engaged in their educational journey and committed to making the most of the opportunities available to them.
We would like to encourage families to connect with their child about our Learning to Learn (L2L) Framework, which is central to how learning occurs at OneSchool Global. The framework is built around three key components, the Assignment, the Lesson, and the Study. The Assignment acts as the overall learning contract between the student and teacher, outlining the learning intentions, success criteria, resources, and assessment tasks. Within each assignment, students participate in Lessons, where teachers provide direct instruction, and Study, where students work independently while teachers guide and facilitate their progress. This structure allows students to develop independence, responsibility, and strong learning habits while still being supported by their teachers. Talking with your child about how they approach their assignments, lessons, and study time can be a great way to support them in developing these lifelong learning skills.
Overall, it is very encouraging to see the direction our campus is heading. The increasing ownership students are taking over their learning, combined with the strong partnership between school and home, continues to build a positive and purposeful learning environment. We look forward to seeing this momentum continue as the term progresses and thank our families for their ongoing support of our campus community.
