Update From Mr James Easthope
Dear Campus Community,
As we come to the close of Semester 1 and the end of Term 2, it is an opportune time to reflect on what has been an incredibly successful first half of the year. Looking back over the past six months, there is so much to celebrate as a campus community. Our students have embraced the opportunities before them, our staff have continued to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, and our parents, volunteers and wider community have continued to partner with us in creating a campus where every student can thrive.
Success is never the result of one individual or one initiative. It is the product of a community working together towards a common purpose. Semester 1 has been a wonderful example of this, and I would like to sincerely thank every member of our campus community for the role they have played in helping us continue to grow.
One of the highlights of the semester has been our recent Continuous Quality Review (CQR), where we successfully met the expected Global Standard of 4.5 out of 6. This is a significant achievement and reflects the outstanding work taking place across our campus each and every day. More importantly, this is not our destination, it is another milestone on our journey of continuous improvement. We have another review scheduled towards the end of Term 3, and our focus is already on continuing to improve and striving for an even higher standard. I would like to acknowledge the incredible work of our staff, students, parents, volunteers and, in particular, our Campus Board. Their vision, leadership and ongoing commitment have played an instrumental role in helping our campus reach this important benchmark.
Our commitment to student learning is also reflected in the incredible growth we have seen in our tutorial program. Already this year, we have exceeded our half annual tutorial target and have delivered more than 300 additional tutorials compared to semester 1 2025 last year. This is a remarkable achievement. Tutorials are one of the most powerful supports we can provide our students, allowing them to revisit concepts, ask questions, receive targeted assistance and build confidence in their learning. Even more encouraging is the culture that has developed around tutorials, our students know when they need support, they actively seek it, and they understand that asking for help is a strength. This growth demonstrates the maturity and ownership our students are taking over their learning and is undoubtedly contributing to stronger academic outcomes across the campus.
Our campus building project has also reached another exciting milestone. Throughout the semester we successfully completed the Campus Master Plan (CMP) movement and transition phase, including relocating and establishing our Secondary Learning Centre. While such a significant change could easily have caused disruption, I am incredibly grateful that teaching and learning have continued uninterrupted. It has truly been "business as usual," with our staff remaining firmly focused on what matters most, providing high-quality learning experiences for every student. We have now finalised the building design and are awaiting submission to Council by our building team. Once approval is received, we will move into the demolition phase before construction begins. It is exciting to see our vision continuing to become reality, and I know our entire community is looking forward to watching the transformation unfold over the coming months.
Perhaps one of the most pleasing outcomes this semester has been the significant improvement in our academic performance. At this time last year (Semester 1 2025), our campus Grade Point Average (GPA) sat at 9.5 out of 15. This year, despite the additional challenges and changes associated with preparing for our building project, our campus GPA has increased to 10.5 out of 15. This is an outstanding improvement and a credit to both our students and staff. It demonstrates that our focus has remained exactly where it should be, on teaching, learning and continuous improvement. Our students are working harder, taking greater ownership of their learning, and achieving stronger academic outcomes because of it.
A major contributor to this success has been our continued implementation of our Learning to Learn (L2L) Framework. Throughout Semester 1, our students have become increasingly consistent in planning every learning session by identifying their Task, Goal and Learning Space for every period of every day. This simple but powerful framework is developing students who are organised, intentional and capable of directing their own learning. It is encouraging to see our staff consistently modelling these expectations and our students responding so positively. Together, we are creating learners who not only succeed today but who develop the skills and habits required for success long into the future.
Another highlight of the semester has been the positive response to our ATAR and QCE Information Sessions. We are incredibly grateful for the encouraging feedback received from both parents and students. These sessions were designed to demystify the senior years, provide clarity around subject selection, and help families understand how ATAR and QCE pathways operate. One of our key messages throughout these sessions has been that every Queensland student is part of the ATAR landscape, whether they ultimately receive an ATAR or not. Understanding how the system works empowers students to make informed decisions and position themselves for future success, whatever pathway they choose.
Beyond these measurable achievements, I have also been incredibly proud of the culture we continue to build across our campus. Student engagement has remained exceptionally strong, attendance continues to improve, and there is a genuine sense of belonging and pride evident in our learning spaces each day. We have seen students supporting one another, embracing leadership opportunities, participating enthusiastically in campus activities and representing our school with maturity and respect. These qualities are just as important as academic success and are helping shape the kind of young people we aspire to develop.
Finally, I would once again like to thank our families for your ongoing support throughout Semester 1. The partnership between home and school remains one of our greatest strengths. Your encouragement, communication and commitment to our shared expectations allow our students to flourish, and we are incredibly grateful for the trust you place in us each day.
While Semester 1 has given us much to celebrate, we know there is still plenty to look forward to. We are excited for the opportunities that Semester 2 will bring as we continue to raise expectations, strengthen learning outcomes, progress our building project and provide exceptional opportunities for every student in our care.
I am also looking forward to joining our students, staff and families tomorrow as we celebrate the end of another fantastic term together. Our end-of-term activities promise to be a wonderful way to recognise the hard work of our students, strengthen the relationships that make our campus so special, and finish Semester 1 on a positive and memorable note.
