Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of Week 4, it has been great to see the positive momentum continue across our campus. Our students have made a strong start to Term 3 and are continuing to demonstrate growth in their academic focus, organisation and preparedness for learning. Across our Learning Centres, we are seeing students becoming increasingly purposeful with their time, taking greater ownership of their learning and working towards achieving their academic goals. These are exactly the habits we want to see developing as our students continue to grow as confident and capable Self-Directed Learners.

A key part of this progress is ensuring that our students are prepared for each day and for each learning period. Our expectations remain clear: students should arrive at school ready to learn, in the correct uniform, with the equipment and resources they require, and with a clear Learning Plan for each day and each period. Having a clear Task, Goal and Learning Space allows students to begin each period with purpose and ensures that valuable learning time is used effectively. I would like to thank our students and families for their continued support in maintaining these standards. Consistency in these areas makes a significant difference to student learning and academic outcomes.

While there may not yet be much to see physically on our building project, there has been plenty happening behind the scenes. We are pleased to have our DA Update progressing through Council, which is another important step forward in the project. We have also seen movement with the planned upgrades to the mezzanine area within our Multi-Purpose Hall. These developments are all part of the broader work required to bring our campus vision to life. Although some of the progress is not immediately visible, it is exciting to know that the project continues to move forward, and we look forward to being able to share more tangible progress with our community as we move through the next stages.

I would also like to extend an enormous congratulations to Miss Kim Nolan, who has been announced as the 2026 Queensland Teacher Aide of the Year! This is an incredible achievement and one that Kim should be extremely proud of. Kim was selected from an impressive field of 90 nominations from across Australia and has now progressed to the final seven, with one finalist representing each state and territory. This is a tremendous recognition of the contribution Kim makes to our students, our campus and the wider OneSchool Global community. We are incredibly proud of her achievement and will be eagerly awaiting the announcement of the Australian Teacher Aide of the Year. Kim, we wish you all the very best for the next stage!

As we continue through Term 3, I encourage all of our students to maintain the momentum they have established so far. Academic success is built through consistent effort, good organisation and a willingness to take responsibility for your own learning. Keep asking questions, seek support when you need it, make the most of your tutorials and learning time, and continue to challenge yourself to improve.

There is a lot happening across our campus, and there is plenty to be excited about. I am looking forward to seeing our students continue to build on this strong start to Term 3, both academically and personally. Let’s keep the momentum going, maintain our high standards and continue working hard towards achieving our very best.

Year 5/6 have spent the past three lessons working on their Bee Automata as part of their Technology learning.

During this project, students explored simple mechanical systems and had the opportunity to design and begin to construct a moving bee using an axle, cam, cam follower, and handle.

Through hands-on problem-solving, creativity, and engineering skills, students are bringing their designs to life and gaining a deeper understanding of how movement can be created through mechanical components.

Legal Studies Excursion to the Queensland Courts

On Friday 7 August, Year 11 and Year 12 Legal Studies students from the Maryborough, Toowoomba, Nambour and Brisbane campuses travelled to the Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law in Brisbane for a valuable real-world learning experience.

The highlight of the day was meeting an experienced criminal judge who has spent more than 30 years on the bench. With a great sense of humour, he shared stories from some of the most memorable cases of his career and gave students an insight into the challenges and responsibilities of judging criminal matters. Students also toured an empty courtroom and learned about the important roles played by judges, barristers, solicitors, court staff and juries.

Students then had the opportunity to observe several court proceedings, including a negligence case involving a tug-of-war incident, as well as other civil matters and appeal hearings. By watching real cases unfold, students gained a deeper understanding of how complex and technical the legal system can be and the importance of evidence, procedure and legal argument.

The excursion was both engaging and educational, bringing classroom concepts to life and helping students develop a greater appreciation for the way Queensland's courts operate. Thankfully, the only people appearing before the judge that day were the professionals, and our students returned with plenty of new knowledge and a few interesting courtroom stories of their own!

Year 7 students have commenced Assignment 3: Flavours of the World and made damper this week while exploring traditional Australian cooking methods.

Year 8 students created their first Bento Box as part of this term's challenge to design and prepare their own healthy lunchbox-inspired meal.

Year 9 & 10 students are exploring contemporary food trends, with a focus on food styling and presentation. Their colourful and nutritious Wellness Bowls were a great success and thoroughly enjoyed.

Attendance Reminder

We understand that there may be times when students are unwell but still feel capable of participating in their learning from home.

Students are welcome to join lessons via Zoom while recovering at home; however, unless prior approval has been granted by the Campus Principal, these days will continue to be recorded as Absent - Sick for attendance and reporting purposes.

An exception to this may apply for students affected by contagious illnesses requiring isolation or extended recovery periods, such as COVID-19, chickenpox, whooping cough, or similar conditions. In these circumstances, families should contact the Campus Principal to discuss available learning arrangements and attendance requirements.

We would also like to remind families that medical certificates may be requested for extended absences due to illness. Providing supporting documentation helps us maintain accurate attendance records and meet our reporting obligations.

We appreciate your support in helping us ensure attendance records remain accurate while keeping students connected to their learning when appropriate.

Get Ready for MAP Testing with IXL!

IXL is a personalised learning platform designed to help students strengthen their skills and build confidence in Maths and English. One of the great features of IXL is that our school's MAP assessment data is linked directly to the platform. This means IXL can identify each student's individual strengths and areas for growth and then recommend specific skills to practise based on their own results.

Students are encouraged to complete at least 30 questions per week and continue working on a skill until they reach a SmartScore of 100 . Achieving a SmartScore of 100 indicates that a student has mastered that skill , demonstrating a strong understanding of the concept and the ability to apply it consistently.

Regular practice helps reinforce key concepts, improve understanding, and prepare students for upcoming assessments, including MAP testing next week .

When logged into IXL, students can:

• View personalised skill recommendations based on their MAP results.
• Practise targeted skills to address learning gaps.
• Work towards a SmartScore of 100 to demonstrate mastery of a skill.
• Choose their own skills to work on independently.
• Track their progress and achievements through their dashboard.
• View learning analytics to monitor growth over time.

Following our announcement earlier this week/last week, we would like to remind parents that we’re transitioning to Flexischools, our new canteen online ordering and payment solution on Monday 10th August .

This exciting initiative supports our transition towards a primarily cashless canteen service, making ordering and payments simpler, safer, and more convenient for our school community.

We are pleased to share with parents and families, the launch of OSG's Experience the Joy of Teaching campaign, which aims to tell the OSG story and attract great teachers to our campuses across the globe.

The campaign features a television commercial style film that was filmed at our Sydney campus in the April school holidays.

The Experience the Joy of Teaching theme was inspired directly by feedback from OSG teachers, many of whom say that joining OneSchool Global helped them reconnect with what inspired them to become teachers in the first place: focusing on teaching and learning and helping students thrive.

The campaign will be used internationally across digital, social media and other advertising channels to introduce prospective teachers to the opportunities available at OneSchool Global.

More than a recruitment campaign, it is a celebration of the students, families and staff that make OSG such a special place to learn and teach.

The film has been tailored to each region with French, Argentinian-Spanish and German language versions, as well as Australian, New Zealand, British and North American voiceovers. You can view the various international versions of the film here.
