Dear Students, Staff, and Families

As we reach the end of Term 2, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been a highly productive and positive term across our Victoria and Tasmania campuses. This also marks the end of my first full term as Regional Principal at OneSchool Global, a milestone that has given me valuable time to settle into the role, build connections, and gain a deeper understanding of our school community.

Over the past fortnight, I have acted as Campus Principal at our Nathalia Campus. I praise all students, staff and community for their welcome and support. It has been great seeing our L2L framework in action day after day.

During this last week we have had the privilege of a regional visit by Mr Paul Maher, Regional Director of Education and Ms Louise Goette, Regional Director of Student Support. They spent time at our Nathalia, Swan Hill and Bendigo Campuses. I was extremely proud of our campuses during these visits and I thank Mr Chris Sanders at Bendigo and Ms Annalie Gilmour at Swan Hill.

As mentioned many times, this term has enabled me to visit all our campuses. I have been struck by the consistency of our culture, the strength of relationships, and the clear focus on student learning. At every campus, I have felt genuinely welcomed, and I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting with staff, students, and members of the wider community. These visits continue to be a highlight of my role and reinforce the strong sense of purpose that exists across our region.

There have been many highlights throughout the term. I would like to acknowledge all students who have recently completed assessments and examinations. Your commitment to preparation and perseverance is commendable, and you should take great pride in your efforts. These moments mark important milestones in your learning journey.

This time of year, has also seen a strong focus on subject selection for 2027. I commend students for the thoughtful consideration they have given to their future pathways, supported by staff and families. These are important decisions that help shape the opportunities ahead. More broadly, I want to acknowledge the efforts of all campuses in maintaining such positive and productive environments. Across classroom learning, student leadership, co-curricular activities, and community engagement, there is much to celebrate. Our shared values and collective commitment continue to be a defining strength of OneSchool.

As we move into the holiday break, I am personally looking forward to taking some time to pause, take stock, and reflect with gratitude on what has been achieved this term. I encourage all members of our community to do the same to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends after a busy and productive period.

I look forward to welcoming everyone back in Term 3, refreshed and ready to continue building on the strong foundations already in place.

Primary 3–6: Beneath the Waves

Students in Years 3 to 6 have embarked on an immersive exploration of the oceanic world through the Beneath the Waves assignment. This assignment has encouraged students to respond to the underwater environment as both inspiration and subject matter, translating ideas into richly layered visual compositions.

Across the term, students have experimented with a diverse range of materials and techniques, including watercolour washes, crayon resist processes, expressive oil pastel work, and collage-based extensions. These processes have enabled students to investigate transparency, texture, and chromatic intensity, while developing an understanding of how layered media can evoke depth and movement.

The resulting artworks are highly individual and visually dynamic, capturing everything from luminous coral ecosystems to imaginative marine life forms. There has been a strong sense of visual curiosity and experimentation evident in each piece, with students demonstrating increasing confidence in combining materials to create expressive and atmospheric underwater worlds.

Grade 7: Storm and Stillness

Grade 7 students have undertaken a contemplative and technically focused exploration of still life through the Storm and Stillness assignment. This assignment has centred on the expressive potential of watercolour, with students refining their control of translucency, tonal modulation, and gestural brushwork to evoke atmosphere and visual tension.

Students have engaged in sustained visual analysis of artworks by significant artists, developing their capacity to interpret compositional structure, chromatic relationships, and the emotive use of light. This analytical work has informed their own practice, encouraging more deliberate and conceptually driven decision-making in their compositions.

The emerging works reflect a compelling interplay between dynamism and restraint, with students exploring how still life can communicate both quiet equilibrium and underlying energy. There is a noticeable refinement in both technical execution and visual sensitivity across the cohort.

Grade 8: Dragon’s Tale

Grade 8 students have been immersed in a richly imaginative investigation of myth-making and visual storytelling through the Dragon’s Tale assignment. This assignment has encouraged students to synthesise observational drawing, conceptual design, and narrative construction across multiple stages of development.

Students have produced a series of exploratory works including detailed dragon studies, refined tonal drawings, and iterative thumbnail compositions. These planning processes have emphasised the importance of visual experimentation, particularly through the manipulation of line, shape, and tonal hierarchy to generate form and meaning.

A key conceptual focus has been the transformation of the familiar into the fantastical where students have explored surreal reinterpretations of everyday objects, such as domestic forms evolving into hybrid creatures or animated environments. This has supported the development of inventive visual thinking and stronger narrative intent within their work.

In addition, students have engaged in critical analysis of artists such as Shaun Tan, alongside broader mythological and contemporary fantasy references, developing an understanding of how visual language constructs mood, symbolism, and narrative ambiguity. Their forthcoming sculptural and relief-based works will extend these investigations into spatial form, culminating in highly expressive three-dimensional dragon interpretations.

Overall, it has been an exciting term of experimentation, imagination, and skill development across all year levels. Students have continued to grow in confidence, refine their technical abilities, and develop increasingly thoughtful and expressive approaches to their artmaking.

Real Skills, Real Progress: VET Business in Action

Our Year 10 students have been making steady progress as they work towards their Certificate III in Business. So far, they’ve been building their skills across a mix of theory and project-based tasks, focusing on areas such as Work Health and Safety, personal organisation, communication, inclusive work practices, critical thinking and customer service.

A real highlight has been the role plays, where students have had the opportunity to put their learning into practice. These have been great for building confidence and helping students understand what these skills look like in a real workplace context.

Next, we move into the technology units, where students will develop their skills in Microsoft Word and Excel. Alongside this, there will be a continued focus on building self-awareness and personal effectiveness - important skills as they prepare for senior studies and future pathways beyond school.

It’s been fantastic to see students engaging with the course and developing skills that will support them both in the classroom and in the workplace.

Here we find ourselves in the final week of Term 2, and what a term it has been! As we reflect on all that has occurred this term, we can go forward with excitement for what next term will bring. Students should be examining their exam results to identify key areas that can be worked on further, to achieve even greater results in the end of year exams.

However, students finished off Term 2 in a fun manner, with the annual lightning carnival being an event that attracted great excitement. At the time of writing, the event has not yet been completed, but we will be sure to release the results of the day sometime soon!

Another event that was well received by students was the FIGHT MND ice bucket challenge, in which a mix of staff and students were dunked with ice-cold water, and many generous donations were received and given to the FIGHT MND foundation, to assist in their quest to find a cure for the horrible disease.

We would like to extend a big congratulations to the Year 7’s, who were term 2’s ‘Class of the term’. The year 7’s took out 3 nominations for the term, and because of their hard work and diligence, they were rewarded with a pizza lunch on Wednesday of week 10.

The SLT has been hard at work this term, with the team giving out 180 house points, as a part of our ‘Go for gold’ initiative. In addition, we have been working on exciting projects, like the Ice bucket challenge and a collaboration with Nambour Campus SLT, with many more exciting projects and events in the pipeline.

The 2026 persona program, OneSchool Global’s annual feedback and development program will kick off in July across OSG’s Southern Hemisphere campuses. The Persona Program is an important activity on the OSG calendar supporting staff to reflect on their practice, build on strengths and continue to grow.

The program runs across three phases:

· Phase 1: Feedback 20 - 31 July 2026

· Phase 2: Development & Goal Setting 17 August - 11 September 2026

· Phase 3: Growth 14 September - end October 2026

Parents are an important part of this program. If selected to participate to share your feedback, you will receive an email on 20 July from Qualtrics asking you to complete a short questionnaire on your Campus Principal, teachers or other team members of the campus. All responses are confidential and reviewed alongside other feedback to ensure balance and fairness.

As we reach the final week of Term 2 and look ahead to the school holidays, it’s a timely reminder for everyone—whether you’re behind the wheel, on foot, or simply along for the ride—to keep safety front of mind.

Recent road safety campaigns across Tasmania and Australia continue to highlight a simple but powerful message: small choices make a big difference. The Road Safety Advisory Council’s current campaign “Little distraction. Big impact.” reminds us that even everyday distractions—like checking a phone, adjusting the radio, or losing focus on familiar roads—can have serious consequences in just seconds.

For drivers, the holiday period often brings increased traffic, longer journeys, and unfamiliar routes. Take the time to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and ensure you’re well rested before heading off. National campaigns also continue to highlight fatigue as a major risk—reminding us that driving tired can be as dangerous as driving under the influence.
Sticking to speed limits, staying alert, and removing distractions are some of the simplest ways to keep yourself and others safe.

Passengers, especially our younger students, play an important role too. Whether you’re travelling on a family road trip, catching public transport, or heading off on an adventure, remember to always wear your seatbelt and remain seated. A calm and cooperative passenger helps drivers concentrate and ensures a safer journey for everyone.

Likewise, pedestrians should also take extra care during the break. With routines changing and more people out and about, it’s easy for safety habits to slip. Use designated crossings where possible, make eye contact with drivers before crossing, and stay focused—avoiding distractions such as phones or headphones near roads.

You may also notice increased reminders about slowing down around roadworks, with campaigns like “The Nod – slow down, respect the crew” encouraging drivers to look out for traffic controllers and workers who keep our roads safe.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing Transport Coordinators and Bus Drivers for the care and consistency you bring to student travel each day. Your efforts ensure our students arrive safely, and we are incredibly grateful for all that you do.

As the term comes to a close, I wish all families a safe, happy, and restful break. Enjoy the change of pace, and we look forward to reconnecting next term.

This Monday the 29th of June, Hobart Year 7 Food Technology students put on a morning tea for the wonderful volunteers that keep Hobart campus running smoothly. A variety of wonderful treats were cooked, from quiches to cookies, and the Year 11 offered their help in the form of delicious, barista-level warm drinks!

We thank all of our volunteers for the work they do, and we hope they appreciated this small gesture!

After receiving feedback from students and the community alike that more travel is wanted between Hobart and Launceston campuses, we are excited to announce that we are currently working towards having all Hobart students travelling to Launceston twice a week, on Thursdays and Fridays.

We hope the consistency in days will be easier on parents and students, and offer a more settled routine for our students to thrive within whilst also allowing for more travel.

Hobart parents have been invited to provide feedback on this arrangement, and we would like to take the opportunity to remind you that conversations are available for anyone who would like to discuss this change in more detail.

If all goes well, we hope to commence with this new arrangement at the start of Term Three!

As part of our commitment to the safety of our staff and students, some members of staff participated in a new First-Aid Training Course, to ensure that we are ready to help in the case of an emergency!

As part of this, Mrs. Spillane demonstrated the joys of travelling in the back of an ambulance. Thanks, Mrs. Spillane!
