Update from the Campus Principal

Dear Parents,

As we arrive at the conclusion of what has been an extraordinary first term, it is fitting to pause and reflect on the journey we have taken together as a school community.

Term 1 has been marked by a sense of momentum, purpose, and optimism. Most notably, we have successfully transitioned into our new campus—a milestone that will stand as a defining chapter in the history of OSG Sydney. What was, for many years, a vision supported by plans and preparation, is now a lived reality. Our students and staff have embraced these new spaces with energy and pride, quickly establishing routines that support both high-quality learning and positive social engagement.

The official opening of the campus was a highlight of the term. It was not only a celebration of new facilities, but more importantly, a celebration of what those facilities represent—our shared commitment to providing an educational environment that reflects and enables our bespoke Learn to Learn approach. It was a privilege to welcome members of the broader OSG community and to showcase what has been achieved through collective effort and belief.

Across the term, our core business of teaching and learning has continued to strengthen. Classrooms have been purposeful and focused, with students engaging meaningfully in their academic programmes. Our first cycle of goal setting, has provided valuable insights and direction for each student’s growth journey. It has been particularly encouraging to see the partnership between students, staff, and parents taking shape in this space, reinforcing the importance of shared ownership in learning.

Beyond the classroom, the term has been rich with opportunities that contribute to a well-rounded school experience. From our Primary Open Day, which highlighted the vibrancy and potential of our younger years, to the Secondary face-to-face day that brought together students from across the state, there has been a strong sense of connection and community. Events such as the Athletics Carnival have further reinforced the importance of participation, school spirit, and healthy competition as integral parts of school life.

Importantly, what has stood out most this term is not any single event, but the collective attitude of our community. There has been a consistent positivity among students, a professionalism and commitment from staff, and a strong, supportive partnership with parents. These elements, when combined, create the conditions for sustained excellence.

As we close the term, I encourage all students to take time to rest and recharge, while also reflecting on the goals they have set for themselves. Term 2 will present new opportunities to build on the strong foundations established this term, and we look forward to continuing this journey together.

Finally, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all staff and volunteers for their outstanding contributions over this period. The successful transition into our new campus and the strong start to the year have been made possible through your dedication, professionalism, and willingness to go above and beyond. This has been a historically significant period for OSG Sydney, and it is because of your efforts that we now move confidently into our next chapter—one defined by excellence in all we do.

Wishing all families a safe and restful break.

Parliament Triorama

This term, in HSIE students have been understanding why we need a government to run our country. They explored why people need to be in charge, the importance of rules, and the consequences of not having rules. As part of this assignment, students worked collaboratively in groups to create a triorama representing the different levels of parliament in Australia. This task supported teamwork, discussion, and a deeper understanding of how our government works.

Learning Centre Spaces

Our students are using our learning spaces with clear purpose. The focus space has been supporting quiet, independent work, helping students build concentration and responsibility for their learning. The collaborative and semi collaborative spaces have been used for discussions, shared thinking, and peer work, with a real emphasis on students working together in the learning centre. There is a wonderful buzz of learning as students engage, collaborate, and take ownership of their learning.

Extended Library Borrowing

To support reading and learning over the holiday break, students are welcome to borrow additional library books. All holiday loans will be due back in the first week of next term. We encourage families to enjoy sharing these books together and thank you for helping students take care of borrowed items.

Year 10 Geography Fieldwork – Wattamolla Beach

Year 10 Geography students recently participated in a successful fieldwork excursion to Wattamolla Beach in the Royal National Park. Throughout the day, students applied their classroom learning in a real-world coastal environment by completing field sketches, collecting primary data such as sand and surface temperatures, and observing key coastal features.

Students also investigated the impacts of human activity on the environment and explored how management strategies are used to protect this fragile coastal ecosystem. The experience provided a valuable opportunity to develop key fieldwork skills while deepening their understanding of environmental change and sustainability.

High Achievers Session

Last week, Nina Shore and Ethan Hutchison visited the school to speak with Year 12 students about success and achievement in the HSC. They brought valuable insights and shared practical ways in which students can achieve their personal best alongside excellent HSC result.

Preliminary Exams

Thank you to our Year 12 students, parents, and staff for their combined efforts in making the recent Preliminary Examination period such a success.

To our Year 12 students, thank you for the maturity, focus, and commitment you demonstrated throughout the week. Your preparation, calm approach, and respectful conduct reflected your dedication to your studies and to each other. You should be proud of the way you approached this important milestone.

To our parents, thank you for the encouragement, understanding, and steady support you provided at home. Your partnership with the school plays a vital role in helping students manage the demands of this stage of their learning.

To our staff, thank you for your professionalism, flexibility, and care. The preparation, supervision, assessment, and pastoral support you provided ensured the examinations ran smoothly and maintained the high standards expected for our senior students.

Together, these efforts created a positive and supportive environment for our Year 12 students to perform at their best. We are grateful for the strong sense of community that continues to support them as they move forward toward the HSC.

Canvas Parent Workshops

We would like to thank Mrs Jacki Allen, Regional Digital Platforms Manager, for her time, expertise, and dedication in running the Canvas Parent Workshops during Week 9.

The sessions provided valuable opportunities for parents to build confidence in navigating One Portal, Canvas, and Sentral, helping them better understand and engage with the online platforms that support their child’s learning. Mrs Allen’s informal, hands-on approach created a welcoming environment where parents felt comfortable asking questions and seeking assistance.

Parents received support with everything from logging on and navigating online systems to tracking student learning and accessing key information. This practical, personalised support was greatly appreciated, and feedback from those who attended has been overwhelmingly positive.

Due to the success of these workshops, we are pleased to share that Canvas Parent Workshops will now be offered each term. Families are encouraged to keep an eye out for a “Save the Date” early next term with details of upcoming sessions.

Thank you once again to Mrs Jacki Allen for her commitment to strengthening the partnership between home and school and for supporting our community to engage confidently with our digital learning platforms.

Parent–Teacher–Student Interviews: A Strong Partnership in Action

We extend our sincere thanks to both parents and staff for their meaningful engagement in the recent three-way Parent–Teacher–Student interviews. These conversations are a cornerstone of our approach to education, placing the student firmly at the centre of a collaborative partnership between home and school.

It was encouraging to see the level of preparation, openness, and constructive dialogue that characterised these meetings. When students, parents, and teachers come together with a shared focus on growth, clarity, and accountability, it creates a powerful platform for progress. These discussions not only reflect on current performance but, more importantly, help shape the next steps in each student’s learning journey.

We firmly believe that strong partnerships between households and the school are essential to achieving sustained academic success and personal development. The three-way interview model is an important expression of this belief, ensuring that students are active participants in their own learning, supported by aligned guidance from both home and school.

This is a concept we will continue to build on as we strengthen our collective commitment to student growth. Thank you once again for your ongoing partnership and for the role each of you plays in supporting a culture of excellence at OSG Sydney.

The Wellbeing Wrap

Student wellbeing plays a vital role in learning, engagement, and overall development. As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting every student, this fortnightly wellbeing section will provide practical strategies and insights to help students thrive both at school and at home.

Taking Time to Pause:

As we come to the end of a busy term, it’s normal for students to feel tired, stressed, or a bit overwhelmed. Taking a few mindful moments each day can help students manage these feelings, improve focus, and feel more in control of their emotions. Mindfulness doesn’t have to be complicated - even short, simple practices can make a big difference.

Simple strategies include:

• Taking slow, deep breaths for a minute or two during breaks

• Take a moment to notice your surroundings - what you can hear, feel, or taste

• Briefly noticing your thoughts and letting them pass without judgement

At school, teachers provide opportunities for reflection and calm moments during the day. At home, families can support mindfulness by encouraging short, quiet breaks, modelling calm behaviour, and creating spaces for students to pause and reset.

Even small, consistent practices like these can help students finish the term feeling calmer, more focused, and ready to enjoy a well-earned break.

The day is interactive and age appropriate, with students working through guided activities led by their teachers. This is not a normal school day. Students will take part in hands on learning designed to build practical skills they can use at school and at home.

Secondary Pickleball Finale

This term the wellbeing team and events team initiated the very first One School Global Sydney Campus pickleball tournament. We had over 50 team enter into the tournament but only one girl team and one boy team came out victorious. We had an exciting four rounds full of upbeat, energetic and competitive matches that captivated the audience immensely.

On Friday of week 9 the SLT held the very first Secondary Pickleball Grand Finale, it was a great event which saw all primary and secondary students get to enjoy a performance by the stage 6 band followed by two great matches of pickleball. Congratulations to Ketsia and Pearl who took out the girls trophy. Secondly Congratulations to Oscar and Henley who took out the boys competition in a thrilling 5 set match. Well, done to all participants and we look forward to the primary tournament kicking off in term 2.
