Dear Parents,

As we reach the end of Week 6, it has been wonderful to see our Year 11 students return to campus following their recent HSC exams. Their presence has brought a renewed sense of energy and maturity to the school, and it has been especially pleasing to observe the positive example they are setting through their conduct and learning routines. Our senior students continue to lead the way in demonstrating the behaviours and habits we value at OSG Sydney, and we are proud of the tone they help set for the wider school community.

Last week also saw our 2026 Student Leadership Team attend their training day in Sydney Olympic Park, where they had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with student leaders from across NSW. Throughout the day they explored their personal and collective goals for the year ahead, strengthening their understanding of what it means to serve and lead within our school community. We are excited by the enthusiasm, clarity and drive shown by this group of young leaders, and we look forward to the contributions they will make in supporting a successful 2026 school year.

Week 5 was equally special in Primary as we hosted our Grandparents Day celebrations. The anticipation among the students was palpable as they prepared to perform and showcase their work to the grandparents they adore. The day was filled with meaningful family connections and joyful moments, and it was heartening to see so many proud faces and heartfelt interactions. Events such as these remind us of the strong sense of community that underpins our school, and the lasting memories created will no doubt be treasured by students and grandparents alike.

As we look ahead, the coming fortnight will be an important period for many of our students. Year 7–10 students begin their final exams next week, and we wish them every success as they prepare and apply themselves to these assessments. In Week 8, the entire 2026 Secondary cohort will transition to their 2026 timetables as part of our OSG “Headstart” program. This initiative plays a key role in ensuring a smooth and confident start to the new academic year, and we are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity for students to orient themselves well in advance of Term 1.

We also look forward to welcoming our incoming 2026 Year 3 students and their families at the upcoming Year 3 Welcome Day. This event marks the beginning of their OSG journey, and we are excited to meet them, introduce them to our learning culture, and support them in their transition to primary schooling at OSG Sydney.

In this week’s assembly, Mr Mark Fawkes delivered an engaging update on the progress of the new campus build. It was encouraging to hear that construction remains on track at this stage, and we appreciated the thoughtful way he responded to the questions and curiosities raised by our students. The growing interest and excitement surrounding the new campus is wonderful to see.

Finally, thank you to all families who have been working with us to book uniform fitting times for 2026. There is a real sense of anticipation around the refreshed look and feel of the OSG uniform, and we look forward to seeing our students embrace it with confidence next year.

Our Grandparents Day assembly was a truly heart-warming event. The students did a wonderful job presenting, and each class showcased fantastic items that highlighted the key learning areas we have been focusing on in our recent assignments. After the assembly, grandparents were invited into the open classrooms, where they enjoyed exploring their grandchildren’s work and seeing their learning in action. The morning concluded with a delicious picnic-style morning tea, providing a lovely opportunity for families to connect and celebrate together. It was a memorable day for all involved!

Our Year 6 students enjoyed a wonderful excursion to Cabarita Park today. They spent the day taking part in a variety of engaging outdoor activities. Students worked exceptionally well as a team, showing strong communication skills as they participated in:

- Billy Cart / Easy Rollers Championships – experiencing the forces of friction and gravity in a fun race.

- Blanket Volleyball Challenge – a hilarious teamwork challenge using blankets to launch balls over the net.

- Tower Building Challenge – creatively building the tallest or strongest tower with limited materials.

- Ninja Warrior / Ball Sports Pool Relay Race – a fast-paced obstacle course and relay challenge testing teamwork and agility.

- Launching Rockets – a hands-on STEM experiment using vinegar and bi-carb soda to launch rockets into the air.

It was a fantastic experience for all, filled with teamwork, cooperation, and plenty of fun.

Our Workshop Has Been Buzzing with Creativity!

This semester, students have been working hard on exciting hands-on projects:

Year 7 Robotics: Students designed and programmed robots as an innovative solution to picking up coloured cubes. They have been demonstrating their programming and engineering skills.

Year 8 Vertical Gardens: Our budding horticulturists have been constructing vertical gardens and patiently nurturing their plants, learning sustainability along the way.

Stage 5 Timber: With precision and craftsmanship, students have been putting the finishing touches on their beautifully made trinket boxes, ready to take home and treasure.

It’s been an inspiring term of creativity, problem-solving, and practical learning. Well done to all our students!

Recently, the year 8 students have learnt about the rock cycle and landforms. For the unit assessment, the students designed amazing posters and dioramas that described all about volcanoes and canyons and mountains. I was very impressed with the creativity and effort put into these posters. Congratulations to Madeline Baker for being voted the best in show.

Surrealist Spotlight

This semester, our Year 9 and 10 Visual Arts students immersed themselves in a captivating creative journey as they explored the big question: How have historical and contemporary artists leveraged subconscious thought, language, and technology to generate ideas for artworks?

Drawing inspiration from the world around them, students investigated how ideas, concepts, and subject matter can emerge from unexpected places—dreams, chance, everyday objects, and even digital tools. As part of their major assignment, students developed their own Body of Work, experimenting with diverse idea-generation methods, including the use of AI, to capture the imaginative, dreamlike qualities of Surrealism.

Throughout the semester, students produced striking collages and mixed-media artworks that combined paint, drawing, digital processes, and found imagery. Their creativity culminated in a Virtual Exhibition, where they presented their final pieces to an audience, showcasing not only their technical skills but also their ability to think deeply, inventively, and visually.

The results were bold, curious, and wonderfully surreal—an impressive celebration of student creativity in the 21st century classroom. Below is a selection of standout pieces that highlight their creativity, curiosity, and exploration of the surreal.

On Wednesday, students were given a virtual walkthrough of the new Sydney Campus build.
They explored the updated floor plans and viewed detailed renders of the upcoming facility. This session also addressed several questions raised in the recent student survey.

It’s been an exciting and productive year for our VET Faculty, with many milestones reached across our campuses nationwide. As 2025 draws to a close, we celebrate the achievements of our students and staff who continue to strengthen vocational education within our school.

In New South Wales, our students have successfully completed their qualifications and HSC, marking the end of an important chapter in their learning journey. Our external SBAT students in Year 12 have also completed both their qualifications and on-the-job training as they prepare to step confidently into the workforce.

In Queensland, we congratulate our Cert III and Diploma graduates on their completion-an achievement that demonstrates dedication, persistence, and a strong commitment to future career pathways.

In South Australia we have once again achieved 100% completion of VET Competencies for the Year 12 Financial Services class - a fantastic achievement for all students!

In Tasmania our first cohort of Year 10 students are completing their Cert III Business – an amazing achievement for this group, working at a cracking pace!

In Western Australia, we are excited to see the first group of students commence the Certificate III in Accounts Administration, alongside our first Year 10 cohort beginning the Certificate III in Business. These programs mark an important step in expanding VET opportunities and pathways for WA students.

In Victoria, we are transitioning to a new RTO, Prestige Services Training (PST), and are excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring for our VET Business programs. We also extend congratulations to Mrs Emma Rice and her two students who received the Premier’s Award-an incredible recognition of excellence in vocational education.

Looking ahead, NSW Year 10 students in 2026 will undertake the Certificate III in Business, finalising the alignment of this qualification across OSG AU and ensuring consistent opportunities for students in all states.

Finally, we’re delighted to welcome 10 new staff members to our VET faculty. Their enthusiasm, experience, and fresh ideas will continue to strengthen our programs and enhance learning experiences for students nationwide.

The dedication of our VET teachers and the achievements of our students reflect the core of our mission-providing meaningful, practical education that prepares young people for the future world of work.
