Week 2: Learning, Connection and Looking Ahead

As we wrap up Week 2, I have been reflecting on the many opportunities our students, staff and families have embraced over the past fortnight. It has been wonderful to see such strong engagement across our campus community, reinforcing the importance of the partnerships that support student success.

A particular highlight was the outstanding attendance at our Parent Teacher Interviews, both online and in person. Thank you to all families who took the time to connect with teachers, celebrate achievements, and discuss goals for the remainder of the year. These conversations are invaluable in ensuring we continue to work together to support every student's growth and wellbeing.

This week has seen many opportunities for collaboration across OneSchool Global through Cross Campus Visits (CCV). Staff and students have travelled to other campuses, while we have welcomed visitors to Albany. These experiences provide authentic opportunities to share ideas, strengthen relationships, and learn from one another. The willingness of our community to engage beyond our own campus is one of the many strengths of our network.

I was fortunate enough to visit our Adelaide Campus this week, spending invaluable time with Campus Principal, Jodi Gordon. Having the opportunity to observe practices, learn and explore initiatives that have a positive impact on teaching, learning and campus culture was a rewarding experience, I am incredibly grateful for. I look forward to bringing some of these ideas back to our community as we continue to strive for excellence and seek new ways to support our students and staff.

There is certainly a sense of momentum as we move further into Term 3. The term ahead is shaping up to be a busy and exciting one, filled with learning opportunities, special events, assessment milestones and occasions to celebrate student achievement. As always, our focus remains on creating an environment where every student can thrive, be challenged, and continue to grow.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Together, we are building a strong and connected community, and I am excited about what lies ahead. Onward and upward as we continue to make the most of the opportunities Term 3 has to offer.

Uniform reminders

Formal Uniform

We have a lovely new uniform that has been rolled out this year, ensuring we get it right early, is especially important, so we are setting the standard, the first time.

The variety of soft shell, cold climate and puffer jackets are an outdoor jacket and are not to replace the blue school jumper or blazer . Students will need to ensure they are wearing the correct school uniform indoors.

Hats

A reminder that students need to have a hat on them every day and be prepared to put them on as requested.

This past week saw food students engaged in food exploration as it were.

Year 7s researched foods chosen by Australia’s First Nations people who had to be resourceful and use whatever grew or moved around the areas they inhabited. To round this off, students made damper bread. Quite surprising what 3 simple ingredients can yield. Of course, our slices were covered in butter, jam, honey, even Nutella!Students were quite pleased with how their loaves came out.

The Year 8s did not have a practical cooking lesson (much to their dismay) but rather focused on working out what a suggested serve in a particular food looked like for a teenager. They had a choice of 3 servings and despite really enjoying the food before them, they needed to consider the nutrients and appropriate amount rather than their level of enjoyment. The results were often quite a surprise.

A more tactile hands-on exploration was undertaken by the Year 9/10 food group. They tasted a variety of foods considered ‘on trend’.Foods such as hot honey, kimchi, kombucha, and Pistachio paste. They wrote up what their senses had experienced, aiming to use the correct terminology and moving beyond ‘yuk’ or ‘yum’!
