Southern Campus Principal Report by Caroline Tompkin
This week has been massive, with our Years 7–10 students completing their Semester One exams. It has been a demanding schedule; an exam each morning, followed by revision sessions and focused study time. I’ve been really proud of the way students approached the week. They showed a strong desire to do well, stayed mostly on task, and prepared themselves thoughtfully. Some occasional brain breaks with card games, and a bit of Rubik’s Cube action were well deserved and warmly welcomed, given the intensity of study each day.
A huge thank you to our SLT team; Carlos, Harlow, Ricardo, Taani (and Renzo, the additional helper for the week), for their cookies and hot chocolate fundraiser. On some very chilly Gnowangerup days, it was a real highlight for students. Thank you also to Miss Emily for sourcing supplies and Taani for baking the delicious treats. While it may not have been a major fundraiser, it certainly made a positive difference to student wellbeing during a busy week. Now that exams are finished, our SLT will turn their attention to planning our end-of-term fundraiser. More information on this will come out early next week.
In Primary, our students are becoming finger-knitting experts, creating some impressively long pieces as part of a lovely initiative to keep busy on the bus. A gentle reminder to students that we still need to use inside voices on the bus (even though finger knitting is very fun) to ensure a safe and calm journey. Also, this week, Primary welcomed Mrs. Naomi Sloan from Leeton campus (NSW), who has been supporting Mrs. Hodgkinson as she settles into our Primary programs.
As we head into the final two weeks of term, I encourage all students to keep aiming high and finishing strong. It can be tempting to lose focus at this time, but there are still important learning and assessments to complete.
A couple of reminders for the last two weeks:
Tuesday 23 June - Mr. Lindsay will be hosting a Cultural Lunch for Gnowangerup students and staff (no canteen available at lunch that day).
Friday 26 June - Pupil-free day
Thursday 2 July at 9am - End-of-term assembly (zoom code will be sent out next week) , followed by a full day of fun, organised by the SLT.
Have a wonderful weekend—I look forward to seeing you on campus soon.
Mrs Caroline Tompkin
Campus Principal, Southern
