It’s been another busy and rewarding couple of weeks at the Perth Campus, with students making the most of a wide range of learning experiences both in and beyond the classroom. From the Australian Maths Competition and Primary Bee Incursion to excursions at the WA Museum and Gingin, there has been plenty happening across all year levels. We also completed our campus fire evacuation drill, with the AI Unlocked workshops completed this Friday.

Taking the highlight of the week, Year 11 student, Hahn Draffin, took the lead on organising the Perth Campus House Sprint Off, bringing students from Years 3 - 12 together for some friendly competition and plenty of House spirit. Mustangs, Bears and Lions went head-to-head in the 50-metre sprint, with students proudly wearing their House colours, cheering from the sidelines and giving their best on the track.

After some very competitive racing, Lions came out on top! 🦁🏆 Congratulations to Lions on becoming our inaugural champions, taking home the Perth Campus House Sprint Off Cup and bonus House Points. It was fantastic to see the energy, participation and House spirit across the campus.

Looking ahead to Week 5, our students will be taking part in MAP Testing on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during Periods 1 and 2. Our campus has traditionally done very well in MAP testing, with our students maintaining a strong focus on giving their best effort. We encourage everyone to approach each session with confidence and a commitment to performing to their full potential. Looking forward to another strong round of MAP results across the campus!

Primary Art students are exploring all things bees this term!

Throughout the term, students are investigating the patterns and textures found in nature and discovering how these can inspire their own artworks.

As part of this learning, students will create a bee-themed print by etching their designs into foam plates and using printmaking techniques to repeat their patterns, just as patterns are repeated throughout the natural world.

These students have been chosen by their peers to be positive role models who demonstrate the OSG values through their actions, attitude, and commitment to learning.

Throughout the semester, they will represent their classes at assemblies, participate in Student Councillor Meetings, and provide a voice for their classmates by sharing ideas and suggestions to help improve our school. They will play an important role in fostering leadership, responsibility, and a strong sense of community across OSG.

We look forward to seeing our Class Representatives grow as leaders and make a positive contribution to our school throughout Semester 2.

Chemical Reactions and the Elephant Toothpaste Experiment -

This term, Year 9 students explored how chemical reactions occur and how atoms are rearranged during these processes. They investigated the Law of Conservation of Mass and learnt how scientists use chemical equations to represent reactions.

Students also examined factors that affect the rate of chemical reactions and completed a practical investigation to observe these concepts in action. One highlight was the popular "Elephant Toothpaste" experiment, where students explored how catalysts can speed up chemical reactions.

In this experiment, hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) decomposes to form water (H₂O) and oxygen gas (O₂). Yeast acts as a catalyst, increasing the rate of the reaction without being used up, while dishwashing liquid traps the oxygen gas, creating a large volume of foam. Through this investigation, students observed how catalysts can dramatically increase reaction rates and saw an exciting example of chemistry at work.

Last Friday August 7 our Year 10 HASS students, together with our Year 11 and 12 History students, visited the WA Army Museum for an engaging and hands-on exploration of Australia's military history.

Students participated in a guided tour focusing on the Second World War and the conflicts in which Western Australian servicemen and women have served. They learned about the experiences of local soldiers, including those who fought in the Kokoda Campaign, and gained a deeper understanding of the courage, sacrifice, and hardships faced by those on the front line.

Following the guided tour, students explored the museum's interactive displays, with many eager to try on modern military uniforms and equipment. They were surprised to discover that a fully loaded soldier's pack can weigh more than 50 kilograms, providing a real appreciation of the physical demands placed on military personnel.

The excursion was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning with authentic historical artefacts and stories, bringing Australia's military history to life.

The Year 11/12 Physics class had a very enjoyable excursion to the Gravity Discovery Centre in Gingin.

While there the students climbed the famous 'Leaning Tower of Gingin'.

The Tower is an impressive 45 metre tall steel structure, leaning at an angle of 15 degrees and held in place by 180 Tons of concrete.

The students dropped water balloons from the tower to demonstrate Galileo and Newtons principles of gravitational acceleration and were also treated to some insightful Physics talks and displays throughout the day.

We are pleased to share with parents and families, the launch of OSG's Experience the Joy of Teaching campaign, which aims to tell the OSG story and attract great teachers to our campuses across the globe.

The campaign features a television commercial style film that was filmed at our Sydney campus in the April school holidays.

The Experience the Joy of Teaching theme was inspired directly by feedback from OSG teachers, many of whom say that joining OneSchool Global helped them reconnect with what inspired them to become teachers in the first place: focusing on teaching and learning and helping students thrive.

The campaign will be used internationally across digital, social media and other advertising channels to introduce prospective teachers to the opportunities available at OneSchool Global.

More than a recruitment campaign, it is a celebration of the students, families and staff that make OSG such a special place to learn and teach.

The film has been tailored to each region with French, Argentinian-Spanish and German language versions, as well as Australian, New Zealand, British and North American voiceovers. You can view the various international versions of the film here.

Bike-a-thon 2026

Students from OneSchool Global Perth Campus will take part in our annual Bike-a-thon event, which is a day that brings our school community together through cycling while supporting a cause that makes a real difference.

This year, our Student Leadership Team has chosen to support the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, with funds raised going towards their important work in cancer research.

The Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research is home to dedicated researchers working to better understand cancer and develop new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease. Their research has the potential to improve treatments, create better outcomes for patients and ultimately save lives. By supporting the Perkins, every donation helps drive this vital research forward.
