A few weeks ago, the Year 5s and 6s held a debate about whether or not we should have therapy dogs in schools.

We made groups and prepared our speeches by dividing the jobs. After some preparation, one at a time, a year 6 group debated against a year 5 group.

One of the year 6 groups had to go twice. The Year 5 groups were debating “for” therapy dogs, while the Year 6s debated “against.”

Both sides were very convincing, although there was only one winner for each debate. Overall, the Year 5 debates won. Miss Lewis and Miss Baker scored the debates, while the Year 3s and 4s were our audience and voted at the end of each debate on which was the most convincing.

The debate came after we had been reading all about Therapy Dogs and their benefits, alongside our class novel Can You See Me?

Since Week 6 our Year 5 students have been exploring the workings of the Australian Parliament as part of their Humanities unit.

To demonstrate their learning, students created detailed models of Parliament House in Canberra and used them as props while role‑playing the journey of a bill.

Working in groups, they acted out how a proposed bill moves through the House of Representatives and the Senate before being presented to the Governor-General (played by Miss Lewis!) for final approval and the chance to become an official Australian law.

While some of the students’ imaginative bills may not make it through real Parliament, the activity provided an engaging and hands‑on way to deepen their understanding of how laws are made or changed in Australia.

As Term 1 is already wrapping up, it has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and creativity of our French students across both Primary and Secondary classes.

In the Primary French space, students have been learning about celebrations in French-speaking countries.

One of the festivals we explored was the Carnaval de Bâle in Switzerland, where people wear colourful masks and costumes during the celebrations.

Inspired by this tradition, students designed and created their own unique carnival masks in class while learning about the cultural significance of the festival.

Our most recent Primary Assembly was a wonderful celebration of community, learning, and student leadership. It was fantastic to see such strong support from parents and community members — your presence truly energises our students and helps make these events so special.

A special congratulations goes to our Primary Student Leaders, who confidently ran their very first assembly. They did a fantastic job and are already showing great promise as they continue to grow into their leadership roles.

We also applaud all our Class Representatives for sharing the incredible learning happening across the school. Their reports showcased creativity, curiosity, and the hard work taking place in every classroom.

Finally, well done to all our award recipients. Your dedication and positive start to the term has not gone unnoticed, and we are proud of each and every one of you.

We look forward to seeing everyone again at our next assembly on Monday 30th March at 8:45am, where we’ll enjoy some exciting musical performances.

On Tuesday 10th March the enthusiastic Year 9 class of WA went for a visit to the Perth City Farms in East Perth.

The main purpose of the excursion was to learn more about what we can do to preserve our biomes and what regenerative practices are used in Western Australia.

The students learnt about some of the native plants and their role in providing food and shelter for insects, birds, and other wildlife.

They also made seed bombs from clay, soil and seeds as a simple, hands-on way to help nature grow.

This practice has been used for a long time and can assist in regenerating not only your gardens, but also various habitats for different wildlife, such as koalas.

The students took the seed bombs home, so, hopefully, they can explain that the clay softens under the sun and retains moisture, giving a perfect environment for the seeds to germinate.

It was a very enjoyable day, a special thanks to the parents Monica Baker & Sally Wallis who drove the Students in the School Buses and to our teachers Mr Matthew Robinson and Mrs Elena McLuskie.

Year 8 students across Australia have been busy putting their scientific skills to the test as they explore physical and chemical changes in Chemistry.

At our Perth campus, students conducted a range of hands‑on experiments using mentos, Coca‑Cola, chocolate, bicarbonate soda, sugar and vinegar.

In Secondary French, students have been working on creating short video recordings in French.

Some students introduced themselves, while others presented a weather forecast.

Using Canva to record and design their videos, students enjoyed bringing their French speaking skills to life in a fun and creative way.

We celebrated the return of Aussie Rules on the 6th of March, kicking off the day with students wearing their team accessories. To no surprise it was a dominant eagles affair, with a few Freo locals, the Swans visitors checked in from Sydney and even a stray panther was found on campus.

At recess, the Secondary House Dodgeball Competition was underway, with the Mustangs taking on the Bears; a tough fight but the Mustangs prevailed.

Then to top it off, the SLT cooked up a sausage sizzle, creating a true footy atmosphere and raising $1300.00 !

The International Women’s Day morning tea provided us with a great opportunity to celebrate and recognize the significant women in our lives, whether they be mothers, teachers, grandmas or aunts.

Each one plays a important role in our day-to-day lives and we are forever grateful for them.

The day kicked off with a primary assembly, before the women moved to high school undercover area for tea & coffee and a spread of fruit, biscuits, cakes and sausage rolls.

We hope you all enjoyed our small gesture of appreciation.

Following the Lions win last week, they have advanced to the finals and will be versing the Mustangs at lunch on Friday the 27th.

This campaign centres on a powerful safety film that highlights the real risks our drivers face every day - fatigue, distractions, speed, seatbelts, and substances.
