Thank you to everyone who supported me today, as Acting Principal while Mr. Hewitson was away. I had big shoes to fill.

Under Mr. Turk's direction and with Mrs. Brennan (second in charge, to me) we had an enjoyable, incident free day.

While the Secondary students attended the Athletics Carnival, our year 3 / 4 students enjoyed working from the Secondary Learning Centre.

Strengthening safety across our global bus network - global webinar screening next Tuesday.

Next Tuesday, OneSchool Global will launch Precious Cargo, a new global safety campaign for all volunteer bus drivers across our school. This campaign centres on a powerful safety film that highlights the real risks our drivers face every day - fatigue, distractions, speed, seatbelts, and substances. The film will be screened via a global webinar at 7.30pm local time.

The film is confronting by design and reinforces the non‑negotiable expectations we hold for every driver, in every region. You can watch a preview of the film here.

We had a big week of NAPLAN testing, and the students handled it really well. They stayed focused, tried their best, and we’re hopeful for some great results to come.

Next week swimming lessons start too.

The Department of Swimming and Water Safety have advised that Northam Aquatic Centre have double booked with a swimming carnival on Friday 27th March. This means that our scheduled swimming lessons for this day have had to be cancelled. To ensure that our students benefit from a full program their last day of swimming lessons will now be the following Monday 30th March at the same time.

Children are permitted to wear sports uniform for the duration of the swimming lessons.

Over the past few weeks, students have been learning about Parliament and democracy. They explored how laws are passed in Parliament and demonstrated their understanding by creating games that showed each step of the process. Students also discussed the type of democracy used in Australia and how democracy began.

Students were fortunate to visit Parliament House in Perth, where they participated in a guided tour and learned about the two chambers of Parliament: The Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council. They also visited Edith Cowan’s Foyer and learned about her contribution to Parliament.

The day concluded with a scavenger hunt, which students enjoyed. Overall, it was a valuable learning experience, and students represented the school wonderfully.

Students have been learning about 3D shapes this week with some great hands-on learning activities!

We have explored how to draw isometric shapes and had fun making 3D shapes and finding their cross-section.

It was a great pleasure to take our Regional Year 9 students on the excursion to Perth City Farm.

The main purpose of the excursion was to learn more about what we can do to preserve our biomes and what regenerative practices are used in Western Australia.

The students learnt about some of the native plants and their role in providing food and shelter for insects, birds, and other wildlife.

They also made seed bombs from clay, soil and seeds as a simple, hands-on way to help nature grow. This practice has been used for a long time and can assist in regenerating not only your gardens, but also various habitats for different wildlife, such as koalas. The students took the seed bombs home, so, hopefully, they can explain that the clay softens under the sun and retains moisture, giving a perfect environment for the seeds to germinate.

Our Year 9s put their best foot forward during the trip, and I would like to commend them on their engagement and behaviour – well done!
