Hello Parents and Students,

This term, students participated in our regular check-in sessions focused on our Learning Centre non-negotiables and learning practices. While I facilitate these discussions, the process is entirely student-driven, with students reflecting on their own habits, progress, and growth throughout the year.

Successes Identified by Students

Students highlighted several areas where they have seen positive improvement:

• Consistently using two headphones when joining Zoom lessons from the Learning Centre.
• Choosing the most appropriate learning zone for their needs and moving between zones more effectively as those needs change throughout the day.

Areas for Continued Improvement

Students also identified opportunities to further strengthen their learning habits:

• Seeking permission from the Learning Centre teacher before using the studios during study periods.
• Planning study sessions in advance, ensuring they know exactly what they will be working on before a study period begins.

"Doing the Right Thing... But Not"

A particularly valuable discussion centred on the concept of "Doing the Right Thing... But Not." This refers to situations where students may appear to be following expectations on the surface, while actually engaging in behaviours that reduce their productivity or waste valuable learning time.

Students shared examples of times when they may have fallen into this habit and reflected on strategies for making better choices and maximising their study time.

It has been encouraging to see many students already putting these reflections into practice. In my view, the Learning Centre environment and student learning habits are stronger than ever, and I am proud of the maturity and honesty students continue to demonstrate during these discussions.

We are very proud of Zarni, McKinley and Freya who recently represented our Primary classes in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC). The AMC is an international mathematics competition that challenges students to apply their problem-solving skills, mathematical reasoning, and perseverance through a range of engaging questions.

All three students approached the competition with a positive attitude and gave their best effort. They should be commended for taking on this challenge and demonstrating resilience when tackling complex mathematical problems. We are now eagerly awaiting the official results and look forward to celebrating their achievements when they arrive. Well done Zarni, McKinley and Freya!

Next week, students will be participating in MAP Testing, which provides valuable information about their learning growth and progress. To help achieve their best results, it is important that students get plenty of sleep each night, eat a healthy breakfast, and come to school ready to learn throughout the week.

Students can also prepare by completing practice questions in the MAP section of IXL. Regular practice can help build confidence and reinforce important skills. We encourage all students to give their best effort and approach the tests with a positive attitude. Good luck, everyone!

This week, our class is excited to begin attending sessions at the PCYC, which will run over the next six weeks. We are looking forward to participating in a range of engaging physical activities that will help develop our fitness, coordination, teamwork, and confidence. Students are eager to challenge themselves, learn new skills, and enjoy being active in a fun and supportive environment. We look forward to sharing highlights and achievements from our PCYC sessions in upcoming newsletters.

Last Friday, our Year 10 HASS students, together with our Year 11 and 12 History students, visited the WA Army Museum for an engaging and hands-on exploration of Australia's military history.

Students participated in a guided tour focusing on the Second World War and the conflicts in which Western Australian servicemen and women have served. They learned about the experiences of local soldiers, including those who fought in the Kokoda Campaign, and gained a deeper understanding of the courage, sacrifice, and hardships faced by those on the front line.

Following the guided tour, students explored the museum's interactive displays, with many eager to try on modern military uniforms and equipment. They were surprised to discover that a fully loaded soldier's pack can weigh more than 50 kilograms, providing a real appreciation of the physical demands placed on military personnel.

The excursion was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning with authentic historical artefacts and stories, bringing Australia's military history to life.

The Year 8 Food Technology students are currently doing a unit that is focusing on the Bento Box.

Their practical this week was to produce a nutritionally balanced Lemon Chicken Bento Box.

We are pleased to share with parents and families, the launch of OSG's Experience the Joy of Teaching campaign, which aims to tell the OSG story and attract great teachers to our campuses across the globe.

The campaign features a television commercial style film that was filmed at our Sydney campus in the April school holidays.

The Experience the Joy of Teaching theme was inspired directly by feedback from OSG teachers, many of whom say that joining OneSchool Global helped them reconnect with what inspired them to become teachers in the first place: focusing on teaching and learning and helping students thrive.

The campaign will be used internationally across digital, social media and other advertising channels to introduce prospective teachers to the opportunities available at OneSchool Global.

More than a recruitment campaign, it is a celebration of the students, families and staff that make OSG such a special place to learn and teach.

The film has been tailored to each region with French, Argentinian-Spanish and German language versions, as well as Australian, New Zealand, British and North American voiceovers. You can view the various international versions of the film here.
