Update from the Campus Principal

Term 2 has kicked off with a flurry of activity as the students hit the ground running in preparation for assessments, events, and upcoming projects.

Events

We held our Term 2 Parent Information Session this past Tuesday evening, where the Campus Board and I provided strategic and facilities updates. We were very impressed with our Student Leadership Team (SLT) for their reflections and learnings of the Achievers' Forum in the last holidays.

Thank you to the Primary and Year 7 parents who attended our OSG Aware Information sessions. Students in Years 7-11 completed OSG Aware this week, which focuses on ensuring our students know how to identify flags in relationships to ensure they are healthy relationships. The concept of telling a trusted adult was explored and reinforced.

It was wonderful to see so many mothers, grandmothers, and motherly figures on campus for our Mother's Day Morning tea. Special thanks to the SLT and their parents for the behind-the-scenes efforts in making this a special event for all.

Academics

All students are reminded to have their Study Plans ready to go each Monday morning so they are fulfilling their contractual obligations of their Assignments. We have started to see an increase in students using AI to complete tasks, so I ask parents to use the Assessment Handbooks that were emailed yesterday to understand how students can avoid malpractice.

Our Year 12 students are completing their Preliminary courses in the next week, with the HSC courses beginning in Week 4. Our Years 7-11 students are working on their term 2 summative tasks. Primary students have had a great week engaging in History Week. It has also been wonderful to see their enthusiasm for the Lego Lab project.

Reminders:

As we keep things moving and progressing, there are a few reminders for parents in helping us help our students be their best:

1. Non-school devices must be left at home each day.

2. The Assessment Handbook has been emailed to parents. This has the relevant rules and expectations for students in Years 7-12.

3. Parents should be looking at Canvas courses at least once a fortnight to support their child/ren in meeting deadlines and using feedback.

4. Uniforms must be as per the catalogue. Non-catalogue items are not acceptable. Ties must be worn each day for 7-12.

3/4 Gold Update

3/4 Gold have had a strong start to Term 2! Students have been learning about the 3 states of matter by conducting experiments and acting as particles to understand how they are arranged in a solid. They have enjoyed developing a setting for their narrative in English, continuing LEGO coding in Technologies and learning about angles in Mathematics.

Dancing Lego Men 🕺

🎉A big thank you to the students in 3/4Gold for making my return to school as Mrs Henderson so special. All of the effort was greatly appreciated!🎈

5/6C Update

It has been a busy week as Stage 3 settles back into routines.

🌟Our main focus this term:

I am ready to learn by

✅Using the zones correctly.

📣Keeping the volume of my voice low.

☀️Morning: planner completed and opened on desk. English book ready.

🍎After Recess: Maths books on desk, then sitting on floor.

📚 After Lunch: Silent Reading and planning for Study.

📖 Remember that Library Day is Friday and we read each night for at least 10 minutes. Students can borrow an additional Blue Rigby book for Home Reading.

What a great way for the students to study matter by getting their hands messy experimenting with Oobleck. This non-Newtonian fluid is made by mixing two parts corn flour to one part water. It acts as a solid when under pressure when punched, poked or squeezed, and acts like a liquid when at rest to flow through your fingers.

Students have formed small teams at various confidence levels to use the amazing Lego Spike Prime Kits to build a motorised contraption. Unique coding is developed by the students to control movements of their vehicles. Some have attachments that include colour sensors, motors, force sensors, light matrix or a distance sensor.

Here are the first of three of our groups builds.

Year 7/8 Homeroom

Year 7 and 8 have settled back into term 2 quickly. Their set routines have come into play, and all students are ready to learn. The Study Plan template is available for students to engage with. Please have Week 2 Study Plan ready for Monday morning. Completing your plan will only take 10 minutes and will save time in the LC as well as help students feel directed and confident that they have a plan to get things done! I have included photos from our Team Building Homeroom lesson in week 1. These show groups devising ‘photos’ around the theme of Holidays. You might recognise a canoe adventure, a Go Kart experience and a Community Event being displayed very dramatically and aesthetically. Well done everyone.

Year 9/10 Homeroom

Students have made a positive start to term 2! Our Homeroom program continues this term and consists of the following each day:

🌟Monday – Monitoring of Study plans, tutorial bookings and assisting students to include meaningful detail to their study plans. Students receive a merit for each tutorial they have booked and attended.

🌟Tuesday – IXL Day! Students must complete a minimum of 30 questions a week.

🌟Wednesday - Team building – Students will participate in a range of fun and engaging activities designed to bring them together as a close and cohesive Year group. This week students participated in a Kindness Challenge – Ask them what they did with their individual Kindness Challenge cards!

🌟Thursday – Assembly or a Kahoot

🌟Friday – Weekly Reflections and input of data into their assessment tracker.

Please feel free to contact me at anytime if you have any questions or wish to discuss anything regarding Homeroom students.

The Tea with Mrs P!

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope all our students, families and staff enjoyed a restful and refreshing break and are returning with renewed energy for the exciting term ahead. There is always something special about the beginning of a new term — new opportunities, new goals and a fresh chance to grow both academically and personally.

As I walked through the school grounds this week, it was wonderful to see smiling faces, hear lively conversations and feel the positive energy that makes our school community so unique. Whether our students are in Year 3 and continuing to build strong learning foundations, or in Years 11 and 12 preparing for important senior milestones, every student has the opportunity this term to challenge themselves, show resilience and strive for personal excellence.

One of the most valuable lessons we can teach young people is that success is not about perfection; it is about persistence. There will be moments this term that feel difficult or overwhelming, but growth often happens when we step outside our comfort zone. I encourage all students to set achievable goals, stay organised and remember that small, consistent efforts lead to great outcomes over time.

As we move further into the year, wellbeing continues to remain a strong priority across our school community. Healthy habits at home and school play a significant role in helping students stay engaged, focused and emotionally balanced. Below are a few simple but effective wellbeing reminders for both students and families:

😴 Prioritise Sleep
A consistent sleep routine is essential for learning, concentration and emotional regulation. School-aged children and teenagers benefit greatly from regular bedtimes and limiting screen use before sleep.

🥣Start the Day with Breakfast
A nutritious breakfast helps students maintain energy and focus throughout the morning. Even something simple can make a big difference to concentration levels in class.

📚Encourage Organisation
Packing school bags the night before, charging devices and checking timetables can reduce morning stress and help students begin the day feeling prepared and confident.

📺 Balance Screen Time
Technology is an important part of learning, but balance matters. Encouraging regular breaks, outdoor activity and face-to-face connection supports both physical and mental wellbeing.

🤳Stay Connected
Open communication between home and school is incredibly important. If your child is experiencing challenges academically, socially or emotionally, please reach out early so we can work together to provide support.

🎉Celebrate Effort
Praise persistence, improvement and positive attitude just as much as achievement. Confidence grows when students feel recognised for their effort and resilience.

Wishing everyone a positive, productive and successful Term 2!

Mrs P :)

Volunteering at OneSchool Global

Last term, OneSchool Global launched Precious Cargo, a new global safety campaign for all volunteer bus drivers. The campaign includes a powerful safety film that highlights the responsibility our drivers carry every day and reinforces key expectations around seatbelts, fatigue, distractions, speed, and substances.

Our drivers play a vital role in keeping students safe, and this campaign supports them with clear, consistent safety standards across all 20 countries in our network.

Families are welcome to view the film here:

Please note, aspects of this film may be confronting.

For our students, please remember the important role that you play as a passenger on our buses.

Here are a few simple ways you can make a real difference:

Wear your seatbelt properly every time you’re on the bus

Stay seated while the bus is moving

Keep noise at a reasonable level so your driver can concentrate

Avoid distracting the driver – their focus keeps everyone safe

Look out for each other when getting on and off the bus

Term 2 Parent Information Presentation

We’re pleased to introduce a new way to share your child(ren’s) House Points’ achievements.

From 11 May, parents will have access to the House Points dashboard in OnePortal. The dashboard will include the reason for the award, total House Points they have been awarded to date, their current Merit Certificate level, and how many points are needed to reach the next level.

House Points are at the heart of OneSchool Global’s student award program, to recognise notable achievements aligned with our Student Persona. This year we are encouraging all students to ‘Go for Gold’ and achieve 60 House Points across the academic year.

Parents, make sure you have notifications enabled for OnePortal so you don’t miss the updates!

More information about accessing OnePortal can be found here: https://www.oneschoolglobal.com/osg-one-portal

Primary History Week!
