It has been an exciting and productive fortnight across our campus, with a number of valuable learning experiences and recognition of outstanding achievement taking place.

Here are some of the highlights:

Regional Assembly

Our students joined the Regional Assembly, which gave us the opportunity to reflect on academic achievement in 2025 and celebrate some of the campus highlights as we begin 2026. It is always a great opportunity to look beyond our own campus while recognising the successes across our wider region.

Primary Parliament House Excursions

Our primary classes participated in an excursion to Queensland Parliament House, extending their learning in Civics and Citizenship. Students explored the roles of parliament, experienced the chambers, and deepened their understanding of how decisions are made in government. A special highlight was spending time with our local MP, Mr John Barounis, which made the experience even more meaningful and memorable for our students.

Campus Principal and Head of Department Conference – AU Region

This fortnight also saw the Campus Principals and Heads of Department from the Australian region come together to collaborate on strategic planning, curriculum initiatives, and opportunities to strengthen student outcomes across all campuses. A highlight of the conference was our visit to the new Sydney campus, where we toured the facilities, met staff, and explored the innovative learning spaces that have been developed. The visit provided inspiration and reinforced our shared vision for continued improvement and excellence.

We believe that every day is filled with moments worth celebrating—big and small. Our new Student Recognition section shines a spotlight on the students who exemplify our core values of Care and Compassion, Commitment, Responsibility, Integrity, and Respect in their learning, behaviour, and interactions with others.

In each edition, we’ll highlight students who go out of their way to support their peers, show determination in their studies, act responsibly in the school community, demonstrate honesty and strong moral character, and treat others with kindness and respect. These values shape who we are, guide the choices we make, and help build a school environment where everyone can thrive.

The Secondary Spotlight this week shines on Hazel. Hazel wrote the poem below to provide some content for a student newspaper edited and published by other students from time to time. Not only has she supported their efforts, but Hazel has summed up life at OneSchool.

Primary Spotlight – Collaborators

This fortnight, our focus was on the skill Collaborator. Students practised working together effectively by listening to others, sharing ideas, taking turns, and helping their group stay on task. Through partner and small‑group activities, they learned how teamwork can make learning more enjoyable and productive. We highlighted the importance of communicating kindly and supporting one another to achieve a shared goal.

This week, students explored unit fractions using a range of hands‑on activities both in the classroom and outdoors. We began with a large rope number line, pegging fractions between 0 and 1 and using folding techniques to check where each fraction belonged. This helped students see how halves, thirds, quarters, and other fractions divide a whole.

Outside, students worked in groups with skipping ropes, pegs, fraction cards, and chalk. They estimated fraction positions, folded their ropes to check accuracy, and drew number lines on the concrete to label their fractions clearly.

To finish, students completed an independent task placing unit fractions on two number lines of different lengths, helping them understand that fraction placement is based on proportion, not size. Students then reflected on how fractions change as denominators increase and which fractions were easiest or hardest to place.

Yesterday, our students had the exciting opportunity to step inside one of Queensland’s most important institutions—the Queensland Parliament House. The visit was not only educational but also inspiring, giving students a first-hand look at how decisions are made that shape our state.

The day began with a warm welcome from the Parliamentary Education team, who guided us through the historic sandstone building. Students were fascinated by the grand architecture, ornate chambers, and the sense of tradition that fills every hallway.

One of the highlights of the excursion was visiting the Legislative Assembly. Students took their seats in the chamber—some even in the very spots where Members of Parliament sit during sittings. They learned about the roles of the Speaker, the Clerk, and various ministers, and discussed how laws are proposed, debated, and passed. The mock debate activity was a standout moment, giving students the chance to step into the shoes of elected representatives and practise persuasive speaking.

Overall, the excursion was a valuable experience that connected our classroom learning with the real world. We are incredibly proud of our students for representing our school so respectfully and engaging so enthusiastically. A big thank you to the Parliament staff and our parent helpers for supporting this wonderful learning opportunity.

At OneSchool Global AU, all Year 10 students complete the Certificate III in Business as part of their curriculum. This qualification equips students with practical skills in administration, communication, and workplace technology - essential tools for success in senior study, part-time work, and future careers.

Completing the Certificate III in Business helps students develop confidence, organisation, and a professional mindset. It provides a real-world context for learning and gives every student a head start in understanding the business world.

We are proud to offer this program as a core part of Year 10, ensuring all students gain these valuable skills and are prepared for the next stage of their education and beyond. Students who complete all requirements will be awarded the national qualification - Certificate III in Business. Students who are only able to complete part of the qualification will still receive a statement of attainment, providing credit for the units they do achieve.

Your encouragement at home can make a real difference. We encourage parents to support their young person by discussing their learning, celebrating achievements, and encouraging them to apply the skills they are developing. Together, we can help every student succeed and make the most of this valuable qualification.

The students across all year levels are getting busy as the term's assessments begin to flood in and draft dates come around. There is plenty for the students to look forward to throughout the remainder of the term, though, such as both the primary and secondary athletics days later in the term.

In news from the past two weeks, the primary students had an exciting excursion to the Queensland parliament house on Thursday. Students also got a work from home day this Tuesday as the internet required fixing. We look forward to updating you again in Week 8.

Year 10 Humanities students recently took part in an exciting fieldwork excursion to Coochiemudlo Island to investigate coastal erosion as part of their studies.

Students worked alongside peers from Brisbane, Nambour, and Toowoomba, observing coastal environments and collecting field data to better understand the causes and management of erosion. The day provided a valuable opportunity for students to apply their classroom learning in a real-world setting while collaborating with students from other schools. It was a fantastic learning experience and a memorable day for everyone involved.

The Qld Athletics Carnival will be held in March, at the University of the Sunshine Coast Athletics Track.

Students are asked to arrive from 8:30am, with official announcements and house chants beginning at 8:45am. Events will commence promptly at 9:00am. Please note that travel to and from the event is to be organised by each campus.

Throughout the day, students will participate in the following athletics disciplines: Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus, 100m, and 200m. In addition, the 400m and 800m events will be available as optional races for students wishing to take part.

The carnival will conclude with a presentation at 1:00pm, where year group champions and the overall winning house will be announced.

Students are to wear their house shirt and appropriate athletic footwear. Students should also bring a water bottle, hat, sunscreen, and a packed lunch.

We look forward to a fantastic day of participation, sportsmanship, and school spirit.

To support consistency across all campuses on School Photo Day, please ensure the following uniform standards are followed on the day:

Junior Students (Years 3–6)

Girls: Junior dress with white academic socks (preferred); or Junior pinafore with short-sleeve blouse.
Boys: Shorts, navy academic socks, Junior short-sleeve shirt.
Hair Accessories: Only items from the approved uniform catalogue (scrunchies, clips, ribbons, bows).

Senior Students (Years 7–12)

Girls: Tailored blazer, Senior dress, correct tie (Middle Years 7–9 / Senior Years 10+), white academic socks (preferred); or blazer with Senior skirt + short-sleeve blouse.
Boys: Classic blazer, trousers, correct tie (Middle/Senior), Senior short-sleeve shirt, navy academic socks, belt.
Hair Accessories: Uniform-catalogue only.

General Reminders
Uniforms should be neat, clean, and correctly worn.
Only approved uniform items are permitted, no variations for photo day.

Please ensure any uniform matters are addressed ahead of the day so that students are photo-ready on arrival.
