Dear Parents and Community,

Over the past fortnight, the Maryborough Campus welcomed a visit from our Director of Safeguarding, Mrs Kath Merritt, as part of a safeguarding review. The visit provided an opportunity to reflect on our practices, celebrate our strengths, and identify areas for continuous improvement as we work to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. It was wonderful to welcome Mrs Merritt back in her new position at OSG.

Our senior students have also been busy completing Semester 2 exams. We commend them for their preparation, focus, and commitment throughout the exam period and wish them every success as their results are finalised.

Students in Years 8, 9 and 10 recently participated in Subject Selection Webinars to help them make informed decisions about future course pathways. These sessions provided valuable information about subject options, senior school requirements, and how subject choices can align with students' strengths, interests, and future aspirations. Please reach out to the campus if you have any questions.

Market Day was a fantastic way to conclude the semester, with students showcasing their creativity, teamwork, and entrepreneurial spirit. A special congratulations to our Student Leadership Team for their organisation and leadership and well done to all students who contributed to the success of the event. We also extend our sincere thanks to the many parents who attended the Parent Information Session prior to the Market Day. Your engagement and partnership are greatly valued as we work together to support student success.

Finally, Semester 1 reports have now been published to the Parent Portal. These reports provide valuable insight into student progress, achievement, and areas for future growth. We encourage families to review the reports together and celebrate the efforts and achievements of the semester.

Our students recently explored the rich cultures of Australia’s neighbouring countries through a hands-on cooking experience. This engaging activity acted as an extension of the geographical reports students had been working on, allowing them to bring their learning to life in a meaningful and memorable way.

Throughout the session, students worked together to prepare and taste a variety of dishes inspired by countries in our region, such as Fiji and New Zealand. They practised important life skills including following recipes, measuring ingredients, working collaboratively, and maintaining kitchen safety and hygiene.

It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm, teamwork, and curiosity from all students. This activity not only strengthened their understanding from the Australia’s Neighbours unit but also created lasting memories and meaningful learning connections.

Our Year 5/6 students recently brought their reading to life by cooking and tasting kasha, a traditional dish featured in Rabbit, Soldier, Angel, Thief. This hands-on experience allowed students to connect more deeply with the character Sasha, exploring what food meant in his challenging circumstances.

As an extension of their literacy learning, students prepared and sampled kasha to better understand how it may have tasted for Sasha during the story. This activity encouraged thoughtful reflection, with many students recognising how something so simple could hold great value depending on context.

It was wonderful to see students so engaged and reflective, making strong connections between the text and real-world experiences. This activity not only enriched their comprehension of the novel but also created a memorable and impactful learning moment.

Dear Parents

Parent/Teacher Interviews are an important opportunity for parents, students, and teachers to discuss progress and next steps in learning.
All bookings will be made through the Parent Portal in Sentral.
We strongly encourage all parents to book an interview to support their child’s learning progress. This is especially important for students in Years 3, 7, and 12, and interviews are expected for all students in Years 3–12. We would love to see you in person on campus, as these conversations are essential for building strong partnerships between home and school. If you're unable to attend in person, there will be an option to join via Zoom.
All students are expected to attend their interviews alongside their parents. These meetings provide an important opportunity for students to reflect on their progress and engage in the conversation about their learning goals.

Thursday 30 July:
• Secondary (Online only), 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
• Primary (Face-to-Face or Online), 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Key Information
• Interviews are 10 minutes, and availability may be limited.
• Please book via the Parent Portal on Sentral.
• Bookings will be open from Monday, 20th July and will close on Monday, 27th July at 4.00 pm.
• Thursday 30th July is a pupil-free day to allow families to attend scheduled interviews.
• If you have multiple children with the same teacher, please book separate appointments for each child.
• If you cannot secure a time or need additional discussion, please contact your campus to arrange an alternative meeting.
• Students are expected to attend interviews and should attend in full school uniform.

Additional Notes
Some interstate teachers may have different availability due to time zones. Part-time staff who don’t work on these days or those on leave will not be available and will not appear in the booking list.
