Dear Parents and Community,

Over the past fortnight, there has been plenty happening across the Maryborough Campus. Mrs Saunders and Miss Muir recently visited the Adelaide Campus to collaborate with colleagues, share best practices, and gather valuable insights to support our ongoing campus improvement initiatives. We thank the Adelaide team for their warm welcome and willingness to share their expertise and experiences.

Students have also benefited from updates to our study tracking processes, providing greater clarity around progress and helping them stay focused on their academic goals. We were excited to draw our latest L2L raffle, recognising students who have consistently demonstrated positive learning habits and engagement with our Learn-to-Learn framework.

A significant focus during the fortnight has been future planning, with Year 9 and 10 students working through subject selection processes and our senior students finalising pathways and subject choices for next year. Parent-Teacher Interviews also provided a valuable opportunity for families, students, and staff to celebrate achievements, discuss progress, and identify strategies to support continued success. Thank you to all parents who attended and contributed to these important conversations.

Finally, I would like to extend my thanks to our Student Leadership Team and students for the wonderful surprise they organised for Principal's Day. Their thoughtfulness, effort, and kindness were greatly appreciated and made the day very special. I am grateful to work alongside such respectful, caring, and supportive students who continue to contribute positively to our campus culture.

Miss Muir and Mrs Saunders recently had the opportunity to visit the Adelaide Campus as part of a professional networking and learning experience. During the visit, they connected with colleagues from campuses across Queensland, sharing ideas, discussing successful practices, and exploring innovative approaches to teaching and learning. The experience provided valuable insights into how different campuses support student engagement, wellbeing, and academic growth.

Through classroom observations, professional conversations, and collaborative planning discussions, Miss Muir and Mrs Saunders gained a range of practical strategies and fresh perspectives that can be adapted to support our students and staff. The visit was an inspiring opportunity to learn from others, celebrate the great work happening across the broader OSG community, and strengthen connections with colleagues. Dear Parents,

Book Week is fast approaching, and we are excited to share one of the creative activities students will be participating in during Week 6 (commencing 24 August) .

This year, students will have the opportunity to create a "Story in a Jar" based on a favourite book. A Story in a Jar can be a miniature scene from a story or a collection of clues and objects that represent a book for others to guess. Students will create their jars during class time in Week 6 with support from their teachers.

To help your child prepare, we ask that they:

• Choose a favourite book
• Decide whether they would like to recreate a scene or create a clue-based jar
• Bring in a suitable jar
• Begin collecting any special materials or props they may wish to include
• Start thinking about their Book Week dress-up character

Students may work individually or in a small team of up to three students. Entries will be judged at a campus level, with winners progressing to the national competition.

Important Dates

• Monday 24 August: Book Week begins and Story in a Jar launch
• Week 6: Creation week (during class time)
• Friday 28 August: Book Parade, Book Café and Book Week activities, and competition closes

As part of our Book Week celebrations, students are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character on Friday 28 August . Families are also welcome to join us for our Book Tasting , where students will have the opportunity to share and celebrate their reading with others. Students must change into their school uniform once the event ends.

We can't wait to see the creativity and imagination our students bring to this exciting Book Week activity. If possible, please start sending in suitable jars over the coming weeks.

Year 9 Maths students have recently begun their study of non-linear relationships and are now working on their first assessment task, an investigation.

Using Desmos, an online graphing tool, students are exploring quadratic equations and discovering how changing different parts of a formula affect the shape and position of a graph. They will then apply their learning to model a real-world parabola, such as a chain hanging between two chairs, and determine its equation.

This task is worth 30% of their Semester 2 grade and will be submitted in Week 3. ..

And welcome back to the newsletter for term 3! The term has kicked off with a bang, with many exciting things happening already.

Last Thursday, Number 1 in AU for Accelerate results (Yr 11 and 12) brought the film crew in to get some footage and interviews with students.

In other news, a new study planner system has officially been implemented in the secondary LC. Each student from Year 7 to 12 has a whiteboard planner where they have to write down a minimum of two tasks that they are going to complete during the study, and a backup task plus the zone that they will work in. At the end of each study, they have to tick off their card and show the LC teacher their completed work in order to gain a study score of 5. At the end of the day, if the student achieved a score of 5 for all their studies for the day, they are allowed to collect a lolly from the LC lolly jar at the end of the day.

Finally, high school students are looking forward to a footy tournament against the Nambour students later in the term, where 2 Maryborough boys' teams will compete again one Nambour boys' team, and a Maryborough girls' team will complete against a Nambour girls' team.

Following a successful pilot at our Sydney Australia campus, our campus has a new volunteer structure called the Campus Support Team (CST), which comes into effect on day one of the new school year. This replaces the previous Campus Board and Campus Administrator roles and is part of a global initiative to simplify our volunteer operations while strengthening community support.

The CST consists of three members aligned to Pastoral Care, Culture, and Operations & Buildings. This transition strengthens community support, streamlines volunteer roles, and ensures consistent processes across all campuses.

The Green Lions have claimed the 2026 Global House Cup Season 1 title , securing their sixth championship since the competition began in 2017.

From January to June, students across North America, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Argentina, and Europe demonstrated the qualities of the OSG Quality Student Persona , with staff submitting 216,398 recognitions celebrating students who went above and beyond. These submissions highlighted attributes such as Living the Values, Being Self-Directed, Taking Ownership, Solving Problems, and Maintaining a Positive Attitude.

The competition was one of the closest in Global House Cup history, with just 227 points separating first and third place . The final standings were:

1. Lions – 72,333 points
2. Mustangs – 72,109 points
3. Bears – 72,106 points

Congratulations to the Lions on their well-earned victory and thank you to everyone for making the Global House Cup such a meaningful celebration of student achievement and character. We look forward to another exciting season ahead.
