Dear Parents and Community,

The past fortnight has been another busy one as we approach the end of Term 1, 2026. Where has the time gone?

Our Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students have been engaged in NAPLAN testing, and we’re proud of the effort and focus they demonstrated throughout the testing period.

We also had two of our staff attend the Global Teacher Academy Face-to-Face induction event in Launceston. Ms Petra Muir travelled to connect with new staff from across Australia and OSG leaders, participating in two days of professional learning. She was accompanied by Mrs Genevieve Fitzpatrick, who attended in her regional digital leadership role to support new staff. Their participation helps ensure consistent excellence across all OSG campuses.

In addition, we welcomed several visiting secondary staff who spent time on-site working closely with our students, particularly those they teach via Zoom, supporting learning, wellbeing, and engagement.

Our Student Leadership Team has also been hard at work. They finalised their goals for 2026 and presented them to the CA Team, the Board, and their peers. They also successfully ran their first fundraiser of the year. Well done to the SLT!

Congratulations to Our Planners of the Week!

A big congratulations to our Planners of the Week, who were caught in the act using their planning skills responsibly and independently. We are so proud of the way these students are organising their learning, managing their time, and setting a great example for others across Primary. Well done!

Our Year 11 students have made an outstanding start to their ATAR pathways. They have been demonstrating strong dedication and focus in the Learning Centre as they settle into their senior studies.
In addition to their own academic commitments, the cohort has launched a Study Buddy support program, working alongside younger students in the Learning Centre to encourage positive study habits and offer peer mentoring. Their willingness to help others while managing their own workload is a credit to them.

We are incredibly proud of their efforts, leadership, and the example they are setting for the rest of the secondary school. Well done!

5/6 Class Project

Last Tuesday, our 5/6 students stepped into the world of civics and democracy with a hands‑on, highly creative challenge! Using their choice of LEGO, building blocks, or recycled materials, students worked individually or in teams to design and build their own model of Parliament House.

Each model included the two main spaces found in Australia’s Parliament:

The House of Representatives

The Senate

Once their mini‑Parliaments were complete, students acted out how a bill travels through Parliament. They moved their “bill card” from the House of Representatives to the Senate, and then on to the Governor‑General for approval (some groups even designed their own imaginative Governor‑General character!).

This activity helped students learn:

how laws are created and passed

the roles of different parts of Parliament

the importance of teamwork, discussion, and shared decision‑making

Our classroom looked a bit like Canberra last Tuesday—just with more cardboard tubes, LEGO bricks, and creative thinking!

Year 3/4 Learn About Parliament and the Eureka Stockade

This term, our Year 3/4 students have been exploring how Australia’s Parliament works and how events like the Eureka Stockade helped shape the democracy we have today.

Students learned about life on the goldfields and why many miners felt the government was being unfair. This helped us connect the ideas of rights, fairness, and representation to how Parliament operates today. Students practised explaining their thinking using because, but, or so as they discussed the significance of the Eureka Stockade.

As part of our writing task, students imagined themselves as miners and wrote letters home describing their daily life on the diggings. To make their work look authentic, we tea‑stained the letters to create an old, historical effect. Some students also created postcards that could have been sent back to England during the Gold Rush.

Junior Secondary students had a chance to work on some hands-on science this week when their teacher, Ms Deb Eland, visited us from Nambour Campus. This was part of their assessment for the current curriculum unit.

Year 11 Hospitality students had the opportunity to learn to how to make coffee like an expert this Friday with an incursion from a professional barista. This is in preparation for Hospitality and fundraising events in the future. Staff were happy to do some taste testing for the students while they perfected their techniques!

Start - 8:30am with official announcements and house chants beginning at 8:45am. Events will commence promptly at 9:00am.

Finish - 1.00 pm with announcements of Age Champions and winning House

Wear - House shirts with sports uniform and hat, bring a water bottle and snacks

We look forward to a fantastic day of participation, sportsmanship, and school spirit.

Marketing and Communications team Goals - Ariah and Tansia

Goal # 1 - Check in with the events team each Friday to see if there's any upcoming events that we need to market or make posters for.

Goal # 2 - Gather information and prepare a PowerPoint every month to update the CA team on what has been happening around the campus.

Events team Goals - Mackenzi and Chaston

Goal #1 - The events team aims to raise $2000 fundraising and $250 for charities by the end of the year by holding small events at break times and bigger events on activity days.

Goal # 2 - To create events that improve the campus culture and represent the OSG values.

Wellbeing team Goals - Indy and Annika

Goal # 1 - Change up in the sports played during lunch and morning tea breaks, instead of always rugby.

Goal # 2 - Friday Morning Activities (as a whole school) - Engage high-school students and primary students in physical activity games together.

Goal # 3 - Tidiness of Area in the LC (house points) – Allowing students to present their working areas tidily after each session could be an opportunity for students to gain house points whilst the LC is kept tidy. After every lesson or session, before morning tea, lunch and home time, every day, students will have the opportunity to clean their workspaces and the person who has tidied up the most and most efficiently should be awarded that house point.

To support consistency across all campuses on School Photo Day, please ensure the following uniform standards are followed on the day:

Junior Students (Years 3–6)

Girls: Junior dress with white academic socks (preferred); or Junior pinafore with short-sleeve blouse.
Boys: Shorts, navy academic socks, Junior short-sleeve shirt.
Hair Accessories: Only items from the approved uniform catalogue (scrunchies, clips, ribbons, bows).

Senior Students (Years 7–12)

Girls: Tailored blazer, Senior dress, correct tie (Middle Years 7–9 / Senior Years 10+), white academic socks (preferred); or blazer with Senior skirt + short-sleeve blouse.
Boys: Classic blazer, trousers, correct tie (Middle/Senior), Senior short-sleeve shirt, navy academic socks, belt.
Hair Accessories: Uniform-catalogue only.

General Reminders
Uniforms should be neat, clean, and correctly worn.
Only approved uniform items are permitted, no variations for photo day.

Please ensure any uniform matters are addressed ahead of the day so that students are photo-ready on arrival.

Strengthening safety across our global bus network - global webinar screening next Tuesday

Next Tuesday, OneSchool Global will launch Precious Cargo, a new global safety campaign for all volunteer bus drivers across our school. This campaign centres on a powerful safety film that highlights the real risks our drivers face every day - fatigue, distractions, speed, seatbelts, and substances. The film will be screened via a global webinar at 7.30pm local time.

The film is confronting by design and reinforces the non‑negotiable expectations we hold for every driver, in every region. You can watch a preview of the film here.

We encourage all households to register for this important global webinar screening at 7:30pm Tuesday 24 March.

The webinar is mandatory viewing for all OSG bus drivers.
