Our students and staff enjoyed another busy and engaging fortnight across the campus.

AI Unlocked Day (Years 7-12)

Students in Years 7-12 participated in the OSG AI Unlocked Day, exploring the responsible and effective use of artificial intelligence in learning. Throughout the day, students completed a range of activities and challenges designed to build their understanding of AI, develop critical thinking skills, and showcase creativity through individual and group tasks. The day concluded with students submitting competition entries, with selected campus finalists progressing to the regional stage. Primary Ginger Factory Excursion

Our Primary students enjoyed an educational excursion to the Ginger Factory, where they explored ginger growing and harvesting, food manufacturing, sustainability practices, and the important role bees play in our ecosystem. Students also enjoyed the Ginger Train and Overboard Boat rides while making valuable connections between their classroom learning and real-world applications of science, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.

AU Buildings Team Visit

We welcomed members of the AU Buildings Team to campus as they reviewed our long-term facilities planning and discussed priorities within our five-year campus development plan. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to examine future improvements and ensure our facilities continue to support student learning and campus growth.

Australian Mathematics Competition

Students across the campus put their mathematical thinking skills to the test by participating in the Australian Mathematics Competition. We commend all students who challenged themselves.

Year 11 Driver Awareness Program

Year 11 students participated in a driver awareness session focused on road safety, responsible decision-making, and understanding the risks faced by young drivers. The program provided valuable information to help students develop safe driving habits as they move towards obtaining their licenses.

Year 12 Legal Studies Excursion

Our Year 12 Legal Studies students travelled to the Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law in Brisbane for a unique opportunity to experience the legal system in action. Students toured the courts, observed proceedings, and heard from legal professionals, gaining valuable insight into court processes and the practical application of concepts studied in class. The excursion provided a meaningful real-world connection to their Legal Studies learning and further enhanced their understanding of the Australian justice system.

This term, our students have been working hard on an exciting sustainability project focused on attracting more native bees to our school. After investigating local biodiversity, students identified a problem: there are not enough flowering plants and habitats to support bees in our school environment.

Students are currently creating innovative solutions to help bring more bees into our school grounds. Through research and the design process, they have been learning about the important role bees play in pollination, plant growth, and maintaining healthy ecosystems. Using this knowledge, students are designing native bee gardens, habitat boxes, bee hotels, and other creative ideas to provide bees with food, shelter, and safe nesting spaces.

As environmental problem-solvers, students are considering questions such as: What problem am I trying to solve? How will my design help? How can I persuade others that my solution is useful? They are developing prototypes and preparing presentations to showcase how their ideas could increase biodiversity and create a more bee-friendly school environment.

We are incredibly proud of the creativity, critical thinking, and environmental awareness our students are demonstrating. We look forward to seeing their designs come to life and the positive impact they could have on our school community.

On Friday 7 August, Year 11 and Year 12 Legal Studies students from the Maryborough, Toowoomba, Nambour and Brisbane campuses travelled to the Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law in Brisbane for a valuable real-world learning experience.

The highlight of the day was meeting an experienced criminal judge who has spent more than 30 years on the bench. With a great sense of humour, he shared stories from some of the most memorable cases of his career and gave students an insight into the challenges and responsibilities of judging criminal matters. Students also toured an empty courtroom and learned about the important roles played by judges, barristers, solicitors, court staff and juries.

Students then had the opportunity to observe several court proceedings, including a negligence case involving a tug-of-war incident, as well as other civil matters and appeal hearings. By watching real cases unfold, students gained a deeper understanding of how complex and technical the legal system can be and the importance of evidence, procedure and legal argument.

The excursion was both engaging and educational, bringing classroom concepts to life and helping students develop a greater appreciation for the way Queensland's courts operate. Thankfully, the only people appearing before the judge that day were the professionals, and our students returned with plenty of new knowledge and a few interesting courtroom stories of their own!

Hello everyone,

And welcome back to the Term 3 Week 4 newsletter!

The term is well and truly underway, and the school is buzzing with activity. This Friday, students will participate in an 'AI day', where they will complete an educational course around AI.

In other news, a brand-new student spotlight wall has been added in the downstairs admin building, where primary and secondary achievers are chosen each week by teachers to go up on the wall.

Finally, a homeroom 'survivor' challenge has also been implemented across secondary, with both homerooms being split into teams to compete in mini challenges.

We are pleased to share with parents and families, the launch of OSG's Experience the Joy of Teaching campaign, which aims to tell the OSG story and attract great teachers to our campuses across the globe.

The campaign features a television commercial style film that was filmed at our Sydney campus in the April school holidays.

The Experience the Joy of Teaching theme was inspired directly by feedback from OSG teachers, many of whom say that joining OneSchool Global helped them reconnect with what inspired them to become teachers in the first place: focusing on teaching and learning and helping students thrive.

The campaign will be used internationally across digital, social media and other advertising channels to introduce prospective teachers to the opportunities available at OneSchool Global.

More than a recruitment campaign, it is a celebration of the students, families and staff that make OSG such a special place to learn and teach.

The film has been tailored to each region with French, Argentinian-Spanish and German language versions, as well as Australian, New Zealand, British and North American voiceovers. You can view the various international versions of the film here.
