Discovering Patterns in Maths!

This term, our students have been exploring the exciting world of patterns in mathematics ! Through hands-on activities, games and problem-solving challenges, students have been learning to recognise, describe and create different types of patterns.

We have explored number sequences and rules , looking closely at how numbers change and working out what comes next. Students have also practised skip counting by different numbers and discovered how these patterns can help us solve problems more efficiently.

Our learning has also included growing and repeating patterns . Students have enjoyed creating their own patterns, identifying what repeats or changes, and explaining the rules behind them. From colourful shapes to number sequences, we have seen that patterns are everywhere!

The most exciting part has been watching students become confident mathematical detectives —looking closely, making predictions, testing their ideas and explaining their thinking.

Buzzing with Creativity: Our Automata Bee Projects!

Our students have been busy designing, building and creating their very own automata bee projects ! 🐝⚙️

Through this exciting Technologies project, students explored how mechanisms, movement and design can work together to bring a creation to life. They experimented with different materials and moving parts, learning how simple mechanisms can create interesting and purposeful movements.

Students used their creativity and problem-solving skills to design their bee characters and think carefully about how they could make their bees move. Along the way, they tested their designs, made adjustments and learned that sometimes the best ideas come from trying, changing and trying again!

The project also encouraged students to develop important skills in planning, designing, making and evaluating . They had to think like engineers and designers, working out how each part of their automata could work together.

There was plenty of excitement as the bees began to move! 🐝✨ Students were proud to see their ideas transformed from drawings and plans into working models.

Our Automata Bee Project has been a wonderful opportunity for students to combine technology, creativity and hands-on learning while developing confidence as young designers and makers.

Stage 2 Town Planners Challenge:

As part of our Stage 2 learning, students have been working collaboratively on an exciting town planning challenge. Taking on the role of town planners, they were tasked with designing either a car-free or car-friendly community, carefully considering how people would live, travel, and access important services. Through discussion, teamwork, and creative problem-solving, students shared ideas and worked together to develop thoughtful and innovative plans. Activities like these help students build important collaboration skills, teaching them how to communicate effectively, listen to different perspectives, and work as a team to achieve shared goals.

MND Fundraiser – Final Update

Our SLT wanted to share one final update on our MND fundraiser and take a moment to celebrate the incredible effort made by everyone involved.

What an amazing day it was! We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who contributed, participated and supported the fundraiser. Whether you donated, helped organise the event, took part in the activities or simply encouraged others to get involved, every contribution made a difference.

It was wonderful to see our community come together with such enthusiasm and generosity for such an important cause. Your support will help the MND Foundation continue its vital work supporting people living with Motor Neurone Disease, as well as their families and carers.

We are sure the MND Foundation will be incredibly grateful for the generosity shown by our community. Most importantly, your efforts have helped raise awareness and make a meaningful contribution towards supporting those affected by MND.

Thank you once again to everyone who played a part. We should all be very proud of what we achieved together!

National Day of Action Against Bullying - August 21st

As we approach the National Day of Action Against Bullying , we are taking time across the campus to reinforce the importance of a school environment where every student feels safe, valued, and respected. Building a positive culture based on our Values, Ethos OSG Student Personas is a shared responsibility, together we can ensure that everyone experiences a strong sense of belonging. Through our actions and our interactions we continue to foster a community where courtesy, kindness, and respect are at the heart of every interaction.

During assembly, each year group will explore an age-appropriate aspect of creating a safe and supportive school environment:

• Year 12: Understanding Bullying – Understanding bullying helps us respond appropriately.
• Year 11: Leaving a Positive Legacy – Every student leaves an impact; I want to leave our campus better than I found it.
• Year 10: Every Person Shapes Our School Culture – Every interaction contributes to the type of school we become.
• Year 9: National Day of Action Against Bullying – Together we create a safe and supportive school.
• Year 8: Being an Upstander – Courage is not always loud; understanding the difference between upstanders and bystanders.
• Year 7: Words Matter – The way we speak to others builds or breaks our community.
• Years 5–6: Living Our Values – Our values are demonstrated through our everyday choices.
• Years 3–4: Everyone Belongs – Everyone deserves to feel that they belong.

These important conversations will encourage our students to reflect on how they can contribute positively to our campus and support one another in creating a community where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive together. Year 11 Food Technology – Pancake Practical

Our Year 11 Food Technology students recently put their culinary skills to the test in a pancake practical. The lesson focused on developing essential food preparation techniques, including measuring ingredients accurately, mixing batter to the correct consistency, and cooking pancakes to achieve a golden finish.

Students also explored the science behind successful pancake making, learning how ingredients work together to create texture and flavour. Creativity was on display as they experimented with a variety of toppings and presentation styles, producing delicious and visually appealing results.

The practical provided a fun, hands-on learning experience while reinforcing important kitchen safety, time management, and teamwork skills. Well done to all our Year 11 students on their excellent effort and tasty creations!

Yr 7 Food Tech Practical

Our Year 7 Food Technology students recently rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on in the kitchen as they worked in groups to make delicious homemade damper!

The practical was a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their cooking skills and practise important food preparation techniques. Working together, students measured and combined ingredients, prepared their dough, shaped their damper and followed the steps needed to produce a tasty final product.

There was plenty of teamwork, discussion and hands-on learning along the way. Students had the chance to put their classroom knowledge into practice while building confidence in the kitchen and learning how different cooking techniques can transform simple ingredients into something delicious.

The best part? Getting to enjoy the results of their hard work! It was a fun and rewarding practical that showed Year 7 students that Food Technology is all about learning, creating and, of course, enjoying good food.

Year 8 Medieval Role Plays

Our Year 8 History students have been immersed in the fascinating world of the Middle Ages, exploring the people, events, and everyday life that shaped medieval society. As the culmination of their learning, students have worked collaboratively to research, write, and perform a series of medieval role plays.

These performances challenge students to step into the shoes of historical figures, demonstrating their understanding of medieval life while developing their communication, creativity, and teamwork skills. From kings and queens to knights, peasants, merchants, and clergy, each group has brought a different aspect of the medieval world to life with enthusiasm and imagination.

Principal's Day Celebrations!

A big thank you to our Student Leadership Team (SLT) at Maitland Campus for the time, effort and creativity they put into celebrating Principal's Day for Mr Porter and Mrs Powell.

The thoughtful messages placed in decorative jars were a meaningful gesture of appreciation, recognising the leadership, guidance and support our Principal and Assistant Principal provide to our campus community each day. They were also presented with gift vouchers, chocolates and a delicious cake to share with staff as part of the celebrations.

It was wonderful to see our students take the lead in acknowledging the positive impact that Mr Porter and Mrs Powell have on the lives of both students and staff. Their gratitude and initiative made the day truly special.

Thank you to our SLT for making Principal's Day such a memorable occasion.

Attracting great teachers to OSG - 'Experience the joy of teaching' campaign launched

We are pleased to share with parents and families, the launch of OSG's Experience the Joy of Teaching campaign, which aims to tell the OSG story and attract great teachers to our campuses across the globe.

The campaign features a television commercial style film that was filmed at our Sydney campus in the April school holidays.

The Experience the Joy of Teaching theme was inspired directly by feedback from OSG teachers, many of whom say that joining OneSchool Global helped them reconnect with what inspired them to become teachers in the first place: focusing on teaching and learning and helping students thrive.

The campaign will be used internationally across digital, social media and other advertising channels to introduce prospective teachers to the opportunities available at OneSchool Global.

More than a recruitment campaign, it is a celebration of the students, families and staff that make OSG such a special place to learn and teach.

The film has been tailored to each region with French, Argentinian-Spanish and German language versions, as well as Australian, New Zealand, British and North American voiceovers. You can view the various international versions of the film here.

OSG Persona Program 2026: Feedback month starts now!

The 2026 persona program, OneSchool Global’s annual feedback and development program will kick off in July across OSG’s Southern Hemisphere campuses. The Persona Program is an important activity on the OSG calendar supporting staff to reflect on their practice, build on strengths and continue to grow.

The program runs across three phases:

· Phase 1: Feedback 20 - 31 July 2026

· Phase 2: Development & Goal Setting 17 August - 11 September 2026

· Phase 3: Growth 14 September - end October 2026

Parents are an important part of this program. If selected to participate to share your feedback, you will receive an email on 20 July from Qualtrics asking you to complete a short questionnaire on your Campus Principal, teachers or other team members of the campus. All responses are confidential and reviewed alongside other feedback to ensure balance and fairness.
