Term 3 Swimming Program

Our Primary students have shown outstanding enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards their swimming lessons this term. Each Tuesday afternoon, students participate in a 40-minute lesson at Kurri Kurri Leisure Centre, where they have been placed into ability-based groups to ensure instruction is tailored to their individual needs and skill levels.

It has been wonderful to see our students eagerly engaging in activities, listening carefully to instructions and feedback, and demonstrating their best effort in every lesson. We are excited to watch their confidence, and swimming skills continue to develop throughout the term.

We warmly welcome parent volunteers to attend and support our swimming sessions. If you are interested in assisting on a Tuesday afternoon, please contact the Maitland Administration Team for more information.

The Golden Goats were fully engaged in their fluency reading sessions with their reading partners. They read with focus, confidence, and enthusiasm, demonstrating excellent teamwork and a positive attitude throughout the activity. We are proud of their commitment to developing their reading fluency—keep up the fantastic work!

Primary Technologies – Busy Bee Automata Project 🐝

This term, students are beginning their exciting Technologies Assignment on Automata, exploring the Big Question: How can movement bring our bee stories to life?

Working collaboratively with a partner, students will design and build a moving bee automata using a simple cam mechanism. Throughout the project, students will take on different team roles, including builder, tester, designer and reporter, developing their creativity, problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Over the coming weeks, our primary students will:

• Build a strong frame and base for their automata.
• Construct and test the cam mechanism that creates movement.
• Add bee-themed features and refine their final design.

How you can help: We are seeking donations of clean recycled materials to support our builds.

Useful items include small cardboard boxes, cardboard packaging, drinking straws, masking tape, sticky tape, and wooden skewers. If you have any of these items at home, we would greatly appreciate students bringing them to class over the next few weeks.

We look forward to seeing our young technology designers bring their buzzing bee stories to life through movement and innovation!

Reminder: NWEA MAP Growth testing will take place on August 18, 19 and 20, with catch-up sessions scheduled for Friday, August 21.

In the lead up to testing, our Maitland primary students are encouraged to engage with their Personal NWEA MAP Growth Study Plan during their Independent Study periods. These personalised IXL activities are designed to target individual learning needs, support MAP growth, and build confidence across key mathematical, reading and language concepts. Consistent practice and effort can help students feel prepared and ready to demonstrate their learning as they work towards their personal growth goals. National Day of Action Against Bullying - August 21st

As we approach the National Day of Action Against Bullying , we are taking time across the campus to reinforce the importance of a school environment where every student feels safe, valued, and respected. Building a positive culture based on our Values, Ethos OSG Student Personas is a shared responsibility, together we can ensure that everyone experiences a strong sense of belonging. Through our actions and our interactions we continue to foster a community where courtesy, kindness, and respect are at the heart of every interaction.

During assembly, each year group will explore an age-appropriate aspect of creating a safe and supportive school environment:

• Year 12: Understanding Bullying – Understanding bullying helps us respond appropriately.
• Year 11: Leaving a Positive Legacy – Every student leaves an impact; I want to leave our campus better than I found it.
• Year 10: Every Person Shapes Our School Culture – Every interaction contributes to the type of school we become.
• Year 9: National Day of Action Against Bullying – Together we create a safe and supportive school.
• Year 8: Being an Upstander – Courage is not always loud; understanding the difference between upstanders and bystanders.

These important conversations will encourage our students to reflect on how they can contribute positively to our campus and support one another in creating a community where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive together. Friday Seniors Sport:

Our senior students have been making the most of their Friday sport sessions at our local sporting grounds. These weekly outings have become a wonderful opportunity for students to enjoy being active, spend time with friends, and strengthen their teamwork and communication skills in a fun and supportive environment. It has been fantastic to see everyone encouraging one another, showing great sportsmanship, and embracing each activity with enthusiasm. We are grateful to have access to such wonderful local facilities and look forward to many more Friday afternoons filled with fun, fitness, and friendship.

PhysX HMS Excursion:

Our senior students recently enjoyed an exciting excursion to PhysX at HMS, where they participated in a range of engaging physical activities designed to challenge their fitness, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Throughout the day, students encouraged one another, stepped outside their comfort zones, and demonstrated resilience, determination, and excellent sportsmanship. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they worked together to complete activities and celebrate each other's successes. Experiences like these provide valuable opportunities for students to stay active, build positive relationships, and develop skills that extend well beyond the classroom. We thank the staff at PhysX HMS for providing such a fun and rewarding experience.

End of Term 2 Activities Day:

On the last day of Term, our amazing SLT organised a wonderful day of fun-filled multicultural activities to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Students, Families and Staff enjoyed participating in a variety of games and experiences that celebrated the richness and diversity of our community while supporting an important cause. The day was filled with laughter, teamwork and plenty of smiles, with everyone embracing the opportunity to have fun while making a positive difference. Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of our students, staff and families, the fundraiser was a great success. We are incredibly proud of our SLT for their leadership, organisation, and commitment to supporting those affected by MND.

Lions roar to victory in Global House Cup Season 1

The Green Lions have claimed the 2026 Global House Cup Season 1 title , securing their sixth championship since the competition began in 2017.

From January to June, students across North America, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Argentina, and Europe demonstrated the qualities of the OSG Quality Student Persona , with staff submitting 216,398 recognitions celebrating students who went above and beyond. These submissions highlighted attributes such as Living the Values, Being Self-Directed, Taking Ownership, Solving Problems, and Maintaining a Positive Attitude.

The competition was one of the closest in Global House Cup history, with just 227 points separating first and third place . The final standings were:

OSG Persona Program 2026: Feedback month starts now!

The 2026 persona program, OneSchool Global’s annual feedback and development program will kick off in July across OSG’s Southern Hemisphere campuses. The Persona Program is an important activity on the OSG calendar supporting staff to reflect on their practice, build on strengths and continue to grow.

The program runs across three phases:

· Phase 1: Feedback 20 - 31 July 2026

· Phase 2: Development & Goal Setting 17 August - 11 September 2026

· Phase 3: Growth 14 September - end October 2026

Parents are an important part of this program. If selected to participate to share your feedback, you will receive an email on 20 July from Qualtrics asking you to complete a short questionnaire on your Campus Principal, teachers or other team members of the campus. All responses are confidential and reviewed alongside other feedback to ensure balance and fairness.
