National Education Summit Teacher Awards – Congratulations Mrs Rensburg

Last week, Mrs Rensburg attended the National Education Summit in Brisbane as a national finalist in the 2026 Teacher Awards. She was recognised in the Innovation in Teaching category and named a national finalist.

We are delighted to share that Mrs Rensburg was awarded the national winner in this category—an incredible and well-deserved achievement. On behalf of the campus community, congratulations Mrs Rensburg, and thank you for your ongoing dedication, care, and commitment to supporting our students.

Welcome Miss Zoe Koster

This week, we warmly welcomed the newest member of the OSG Maitland Student Support Team, Miss Zoe Koster. Miss Koster joins us with a wealth of experience supporting students across early childhood and school settings. We look forward to working with her.

My name is Miss Koster, and I am so grateful to be starting at OneSchool Global as part of the Student Support team. I am excited to meet the students and families, and to be a strong support person for them, as well as for the teachers here at OneSchool Global.

I enjoy spending time in the sun, feeding animals and birds, swimming, working on jigsaw puzzles, and painting. I have a dog named Honey and we enjoy going for walks, birdwatching and visiting the beach.

A New Year’s resolution of mine is to decorate my home with my own artwork and cook with produce I have grown in my garden.

Year 10 Driver Awareness

Gaining a driver’s licence—and the independence that comes with getting behind the wheel—is an important milestone for many young Australians. As our Year 10 students look ahead to obtaining their learner’s permits later this year, there is a strong sense of excitement across the cohort.

However, with this new independence comes significant responsibility. Safe driving is not only about personal safety, but also the wellbeing of passengers and other road users.

This week, our Year 10 students participated in a Driver Awareness Incursion, where they explored a range of real-life scenarios and discussed the key principles of responsible driving. A strong emphasis was placed on staying alert, minimising distractions, and adapting driving behaviour to match their level of experience, as well as varying traffic and road conditions.

These important lessons will support our students to approach driving with confidence, awareness, and a strong sense of responsibility as they take this important step toward independence.

OSG Accelerate

The OneSchool Global Accelerate program provides a powerful pathway for our Year 11 and 12 students to maximise their academic potential and future opportunities.

Through personalised, high-impact learning designed to extend and challenge, the program empowers students to take ownership of their learning journey and achieve strong academic outcomes.

Based on the Franklin Covey framework, OSG Accelerate equips students for success in their HSC and beyond.

Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea

A huge thank you to all of our mums, grandparents, future OSG families, and our primary students and staff for making last week’s Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea such a special event.

Guests enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea, viewed progress on the new Primary Learning Centre, and were entertained by the Primary Choir led by Mr Crisp.

We thank all who contributed and look forward to welcoming you back on campus soon.

Mission Nutrition

All students recently participated in OneSchool Global’s Mission Nutrition initiative, focused on promoting healthy lifestyles. The day featured engaging presentations, challenges, and scenarios centred on healthy eating and positive lifestyle choices. Thank you to the Global Communication Team, staff, and volunteers for supporting this successful event.

During Wednesday assembly our SLT ran a quick Healthy Snack Survey to lead into Mision Nutriion day on Friday. In total we had over 170 healthy snacks packed in our lunces across the campus. The students and staff had great fun sharing their favourite healthy options. Apples, Cucumbers and Strawberries were among the most popular optionts,. The Mission Nutrition Day was a powerful reminder of the importance of giving our bodies the good fuels we need each and every day for a healthy well-balanced lifestyle and to fulfill our academic potential.

PRIMARY Term 2 Week 4

Our primary students have showcased their creativity and historical knowledge through the amazing History shoebox dioramas they have created. Each project was thoughtfully designed and carefully constructed, bringing important historical events, places, and moments from the past to life in a unique and engaging way. Students demonstrated outstanding imagination, attention to detail, and research skills as they transformed simple shoeboxes into impressive miniature scenes. The dioramas were a wonderful display of both artistic talent and enthusiasm for learning history, and we are incredibly proud of the effort and hard work shown by all students involved.

A group of our Year 6 students — Clover, Harriet and Zara — recently had the exciting opportunity to interview one of our very own national award winners, here at OSG Maitland.

Last week, Mrs Rensburg attended the National Education Summit in Brisbane, where she was recognised as a finalist in the Innovation in Teaching category. Selected as one of only three national finalists, Mrs Rensburg went on to achieve an outstanding result, being named the category winner. This is a remarkable accomplishment, and we congratulate Mrs Rensburg on this well-deserved recognition.

During their interview, our Year 6 students asked Mrs Rensburg about her experience. She shared that she was genuinely surprised to win, explaining that she had researched the other finalists and recognised them as exceptional educators.

The summit also celebrated excellence across the organisation, with another OSG staff member, Dr Jodie Gordon (Campus Principal, Adelaide), named as a finalist in the Leadership in Education category.

Mrs Rensburg also reflected on the importance of showing appreciation within the education community. As part of her application, she included messages of recognition, including Kudos and emails from colleagues and students. This highlighted a valuable reminder for us all — taking the time to acknowledge and appreciate others can have a meaningful impact.

SLT Term 2 Week 4

Here's a short message on the importance of planning from SLT.

"Failing to plan is planning to fail." Strategic planning is essential as it provides structure and clarity in achieving objectives effectively. When one plans ahead, priorities become evident and tasks can be executed systematically, thereby minimizing the risk of oversight or procrastination. Without adequate planning, individuals often experience heightened stress and disorganization as responsibilities accumulate simultaneously. Furthermore, planning facilitates optimal time management, enabling one to balance academic commitments, extracurricular pursuits, and social engagements. Ultimately, investing time in thoughtful planning significantly reduces stress and enhances one's capacity to accomplish goals efficiently.

The Year 8 Visual Arts students have recently completed a clay Dragon Eye relief artwork as part of their Assignment A: Dragon’s Tale body of work. These impressive pieces showcase a variety of shapes, textures, and surface techniques, highlighting each student’s creativity and artistic interpretation. Students completed the task within two lessons, demonstrating effective time management and focus throughout the process. The final artworks reflect the effort, imagination, and dedication shown by all students, and they should be very proud of their achievements

THIS WEEKS STUDENTS OF THE WEEK ARE.....

It was fantastic to see so many nominations submitted in the first round of our Student of the Week initiative, proudly launched by our Student Leadership Team. Each week, both students and staff are invited to nominate individuals who demonstrate our Student Persona and/or embody our School Values in their everyday actions.

All nominations are carefully reviewed by Student Leadership Team representatives, who select a student to be recognised and celebrated at our weekly Assembly.

When submitting a nomination, we encourage you to clearly explain how the student has demonstrated the Persona or Values. Thoughtful and detailed nominations help ensure each student has the best opportunity to be acknowledged.

At the final Assembly of each month, we will also celebrate our Teacher of the Month, recognising the outstanding contributions of our staff.

Thank you for your continued support of this initiative. It is wonderful to see such a diverse range of students being recognised through this positive and inclusive process.
