End of Term Reflection

As we come to the end of the term, we encourage students to take time to reflect on their learning, achievements, and areas for growth. By now, you will have received your child’s End of Semester Report and have had the opportunity to see how they are progressing at school.
We encourage you to have a conversation with your child about their “Start, Stop, Continue” reflection activity. This activity asks students to consider:
• What they need to start doing to improve their learning and success.
• What they need to stop doing that may be getting in the way of their progress.
• What they should continue doing because it is helping them achieve positive outcomes.
These conversations provide a valuable opportunity for parents and carers to hear how their child views their own learning journey and to discuss practical ways to support them moving forward.
In Primary, students completed two stars and a wish reflection. I would like to have parents talk to their child about what they like about school and what they wish they could do better. This is a great opportunity to hear what they thought was going well and what they would like to do better in. Some of the answers may surprise you.
As we begin next term, it can be helpful to revisit these reflections. Ask your child whether they are following through on the goals they identified and how they are progressing. I will also be having these conversations with students at school. When parents and teachers work together to reinforce these messages, it strengthens the partnership between home and school and helps students stay accountable to their goals. Thank you for your ongoing support in helping your child grow, learn, and succeed.

Altina Excursion
Today the primary students went to Altina for their end of semester activities day. We thank the parents that supported the students to go for this experience.

Young Activities Day
The rain started early but that didn’t dampen spirits. It was great to see all of the students together having a great time. A special mention to the SLTs across the four campuses for coming together to organise this event. A big thank you to the Young community for hosting all of us there for the day.

Today the primary students went to Altina for their end of semester activities day. Student had a lovely time seeing all of the different animals, despite the chilly cart ride. We thank the parents that supported the students to go for this experience.

Morning Tea to Celebrate Our Volunteers

The skills our students have been developing in planning, preparation, and food styling were proudly showcased this morning as they hosted a special morning tea for a group of our valued school volunteers.

Throughout the term, students have been learning about teamwork, time management, sustainability, and food safety/hygiene. Today provided an authentic opportunity to apply these skills in a real-world context—and they rose to the challenge, demonstrating initiative, collaboration, and professionalism. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the outstanding results they achieved.

We extend our sincere thanks to all the volunteers who generously support our staff and students. Your contributions make a meaningful difference to our school community every day. While we were unable to invite everyone, please know that your time, care, and commitment are deeply appreciated.

To wrap up our Year 8 FEAST unit, students took part in an exciting mystery practical challenge, designed to test their creativity, adaptability, and ability to minimise food waste by using perishable ingredients from the classroom fridge. Each student was given a surprise key ingredient and tasked with developing a dish using what was available.

Arlen’s mystery ingredients were cream and banana. Demonstrating creativity and initiative, he chose to prepare banana bread cupcakes served with cream. His dish showcased thoughtful flavour pairing and effective use of ingredients. Coral was given cherry tomatoes and parsley. She discovered additional ingredients such as pasta and prawns and cleverly created a prawn fettuccini. Her dish highlighted her ability to think on her feet and bring together a well-balanced, cohesive meal.

Both students worked safely and hygienically throughout the lesson, managing their time effectively and maintaining a well-organised workspace. Importantly, they showed flexibility and problem-solving skills, adapting their plans based on the ingredients available. This engaging activity was a fantastic way to consolidate learning, encouraging independence, creativity, and practical kitchen skills. Well done to all students for their effort and enthusiasm!

Today, students rolled up their sleeves and stepped into the kitchen to explore an important question: What really happens when you swap homemade foods for processed alternatives?

As part of our practical lesson, students created a variety of pancakes and crepes from scratch, allowing them to compare fresh ingredients with more processed options. This hands-on experience helped build their understanding of food choices, preparation methods, and the impact these have on flavour, texture, and overall quality.

Each student brought their own creativity to the task, producing a delicious range of pancake variations:

Blueberry Pancakes

Marshmallow and Chocolate Chip Pancakes

Biscoff Pancakes

Passionfruit and Cream Crepes

Throughout the lesson, students demonstrated excellent teamwork, independence, and problem-solving skills as they measured ingredients, managed cooking times, and refined their techniques. They also reflected on how using fresh, whole ingredients can enhance both taste and nutritional value compared to processed alternatives.

The kitchen was filled with enthusiasm (and wonderful aromas!), and students thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with flavours while developing their practical cooking skills.

Well done to all students for their effort, creativity, and willingness to learn—an enjoyable and insightful lesson that showcased the benefits of cooking from scratch!

We would like to take this opportunity to say a massive THANK YOU to Penny Sargeant for coordinating the Griffith Bus Roster for the past 6 years. This requires significant time and dedication, which mostly goes unseen! Thanks again, Penny - you have done an amazing job! Janine Donald will be taking over from Penny, and we wish her all the best!

We are pleased to invite you to our upcoming Semester Two Parent–Teacher Interviews, which will be held over two days similar to Semester One:

Wednesday 29th July

Face to Face interviews: 1.30 pm – 4.30 pm

Thursday 30th July

Secondary – Online only: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Primary – Face to Face or Online: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

These interviews provide an important opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, strengths, and areas for development with their teachers. Your participation is vital to your child’s learning, and we strongly encourage all families to attend.

It is an expectation that students attend the interviews with you, as hearing feedback directly supports their learning, reflection, and goal setting. Students should attend interviews in full school uniform.

Appointments can be booked via the Parent Portal on Sentral.

Bookings will open on Monday 20th July and will close on Monday 27th July at 4:00 pm.

If you have multiple children with the same teacher, please ensure you make separate bookings for each child.

If you are unable to secure a suitable time or require a longer conversation, don't hesitate to get in touch with your campus, and we will be happy to arrange an alternative meeting.

Thursday 30th July is a pupil free day, allowing families the flexibility to attend scheduled interviews throughout the day.
