Update from the Campus Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As we move through the middle of the term and begin to feel the onset of winter, there is a natural shift in energy across the campus. This is a critical point in the term where consistency, routine, and wellbeing play an important role in sustaining student progress.

Senior Students Achievement Session

This week we held a follow-up session with our senior students after the Academic Achievers Seminar. It was encouraging to hear students articulate their reflections and commitments with clarity and ownership.

Across the cohort, consistent themes emerged:
- Focus
- Commitment
- Self-discipline
- Accountability
- Motivation

Our next step as a campus is to ensure these are not just ideas, but daily habits reflected in classroom practice, particularly as we approach the upcoming exam period.

Science

We understand that Dr Marecic’s absence may raise concerns for some families. I want to reassure you that continuity of learning has been prioritised through coordinated regional support visits this week from:

- Regional Head of Science Mrs Dawn Jeffries from Bairnsdale Campus
- Assistant Regional Head of Science Rhonda Shamoail from Brisbane Campus
- Mr Allen Grant from Orange Campus

This approach ensures students continue to receive quality instruction and subject expertise. If you have any specific concerns, I encourage you to contact me directly.

Mid-Term Health Reminder (Winter Season)

As we enter the colder months, we are beginning to see an increase in seasonal illness.

A reminder to families:
- If your child is unwell, they should remain at home to rest and recover
- Please ensure the school is notified promptly with a clear explanation of the absence

This supports both:
- student recovery and wellbeing
- accurate attendance records and duty of care obligations

Your support in reinforcing this expectation is important, particularly during assessment periods.

Campus Expectations: Devices

A reminder that mobile phones and smartwatches are not permitted at school and will be confiscated if brought onsite.

For clarity, Primary students have been advised:
- If a device does more than tell the time, it is considered a smartwatch.
- We appreciate your support in ensuring students arrive at school compliant with this expectation.

Mission Nutrition

Students continue to engage positively with Mission Nutrition, reinforcing healthy habits that support focus, energy, and readiness to learn. These routines are most effective when supported consistently at home.

Enrichment Program – Submission Update (Effective Week 7)

To align with the Enrichment Program Policy, submission expectations have been clarified:

Enrichment Plans must be submitted by 8:45am on the school day prior

Examples:
Monday Enrichment → due Friday (8:45am)
Tuesday Enrichment → due Monday (8:45am)

This ensures appropriate planning oversight and aligns with the formal start of the school day.

Closing

This point in the term requires a deliberate balance of discipline, wellbeing, and consistency. With exams approaching and winter setting in, our collective focus is on maintaining strong routines while supporting student health.

Thank you for your continued partnership.

Kind regards,
Mr Warne

Year 3 | Update

There have been lots of hands-on learning experiences for Year 3 this fortnight!

From science experiments looking at Mentos reacting to Coke, through to some amazing water colour paintings, we've done it all!

Technology Lessons | Lego Lab

In Term 1 and 2, Primary students have been engaging in Technology lessons with Mrs Carlson. Our Lego Lab Assignment allowed students to build amazing models, learn how to code and solve problems like real engineers – all using Lego!

We used our Lego Spike Kits and Scratch Coding to work together as a team, think creatively and solve tricky problems.

A huge shout out to our Primary winners of our Lego Lab competition – Freya, Charlotte, Amara, Leticia and Madeleine who built a very creative weather reading robot!

Congratulations | Mini History Museum Challenge

Congratulations to Viola Ruddiman and Millie Tamplin, who were nominated as the OSG Illawarra representatives for the OSG Mini History Museum Challenge for Stage 2 and Stage 3 respectively. You did a wonderful job on your projects :)

And a big congratulations to Viola received 2nd Place in Stage 2 for the Mini History Museum across the whole of Australia!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the challenge, you put a lot of effort into your museums and they looked fabulous.

Primary | Study Plans

The SLT and Year 10 students chatted with Primary students about the excellent work they are doing on their Study Plans!

Students were asked what their main goal for the week was, and what the three main components of their study plans were.

Thank you | Book Fair

A big thank you to everyone who purchased items at the Primary Book Fair.

It was the highest earning book fair at OSG Illawarra to date, raising over $700 which will be used towards resources for Primary classes.

And a big thank you to Mrs Ockenden and Mrs Pugh for organising and running the fair!

Mission Nutrition

On Friday 22nd May students across all OneSchool Global campuses participated in Mission Nutrition day.

Mission Nutrition is a hands-on learning experience for students from Year 3 to Year 12, to explore food, energy and well-being in a fun and engaging context. During the day students worked together on interactive assignments to build their knowledge around nutrition, culminating in a real-world challenge for their Final Mission. Students and teachers had a great day participating in the activities together!

Volunteers | Child Protection and Safeguarding Volunteer Webinar

Dear OSG Volunteers,

Thank you for your continued dedication to supporting our students and campus. As part of our shared commitment to maintaining a safe and nurturing environment, we ask all volunteers to attend the annual Child Protection & Safeguarding Volunteer Webinar on:

Tuesday 16 June at 8:00pm.
Please join using this link https://oneschoolglobal.zoom.us/j/92351110457

This training reflects our global commitment to student protection, placing student safety and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do. It is essential that all volunteers understand:

- Key indicators of child safety and wellbeing concerns
- How to report concerns appropriately and effectively
- The importance of fulfilling OSG’s moral and legal obligations

During the session, we will present the Volunteer Child Protection video, which outlines core responsibilities and real-world scenarios volunteers may encounter.

Important Notice:
This session is strictly for volunteers only. Under no circumstances should students attend, view, or access the content of this training. The material is designed specifically for adult volunteers and must not be shared with or shown to students.

At the end of the session, a QR code will be available for volunteers to scan to complete the Volunteer Quiz.
Volunteers will receive automatic reminders until the quiz is completed with a score of 80% or higher.

Thank you for your participation and for helping us uphold the highest standards of student safety.

Kind regards,
Cameron Warne
