Highlights & Acknowledgements

Learning Engagement & Task Completion

As key formative tasks begin to fall due, families may notice an increase in messages from teachers and the Campus Principal. These reminders help ensure students stay on track with:

- Task completion and deadlines
- Canvas engagement
- Class attendance and learning conversations
- Follow‑ups related to MAP goals and agreed learning routines

Canvas remains the source of truth for tasks, assessment instructions, and learning materials. Some students are showing very low engagement with Canvas, which is a barrier to progress and is being addressed directly with them.

Students are also expected to make productive use of home study time to complete tasks, revise learning, and prepare for class. Enrichment information has been provided; however, enrichment approval may be withheld or granted conditionally for students with:

- a poor behaviour track record
- repeated late, low‑quality, or missing submissions

This ensures enrichment remains linked to responsibility and follow‑through.

ATAR Targets & HSC Subject Score Setting (Years 11–12)

Teachers will shortly be meeting with Year 11 and 12 students to review and set their HSC subject scores and corresponding ATAR targets for the year. While it is still early in the academic cycle, the precision of these targets is crucial. Last year, only a small number of students achieved their intended ATARs, and one contributing factor was a lack of clarity about their required performance in each subject. Students will be guided to take time to review their targets carefully, understand what each subject score means in practical terms, and ensure they have a clear pathway to meeting these expectations. This forms part of our broader focus on building student ownership, accurate self‑assessment, and clear learning trajectories.

I will also meet students to review and set an ATAR goal following meetings with their teachers. Parents may also be invited to some meetings if required, but in any case, parents will receive a follow up with set scores and targets.

Tutorial Engagement – What We’re Seeing and Why It Matters

Across the first five weeks, our analysis shows that tutorial participation is significantly lower than expected, given student workload, academic demands, and the level of independent study built into the Learning to Learn model.

Students typically manage 6–7 subjects, with increasing self‑directed study as they progress:

- Senior students spend around half their school time in independent learning but show modest tutorial engagement.
- Years 9–10 complete ~40% of learning through self‑directed study; tutorial uptake remains below expected levels.
- Years 7–8 spend ~30% of time in independent learning and are developing early habits—but early practice is essential.

Tutorials should be treated as routine learning checkpoints, not emergency help sessions. Consistent attendance leads to:

- stronger planning and organisational habits
- improved task completion
- greater confidence with assessments
- increased teacher visibility into independent work

How families can help

- Ask your child which subjects they need to check in on this fortnight.
- Encourage one tutorial per subject cycle.
- Reinforce that tutorials are not just for students who are struggling—they support students who want to stay ahead, gain clarity, or confirm they’re on track.

Building these habits early helps students self‑correct quickly, avoid last‑minute changes, and steadily improve personal management. Tutorials exist to make learning more confident, more supported, and more successful.

Safety & Operations – Buses and Car Park

- Bus drivers are reminded to follow safe driving expectations, including the 5 km/h speed limit in the car park.
- We have had several close calls; safety remains our highest priority.
- Families are asked to avoid parking in bus bays and to park buses from the furthest bay forward on arrival to keep the area safe and efficient.

Year 3 have had fun learning about addition and subtraction this week, and how we can use Tens Frames and Hundreds Charts to help find patterns in numbers.

We needed a lot of room to create a giant Hundreds Chart- the shade of the playground was a fantastic place to have a maths lesson on a very hot day!

At OneSchool Global AU, all Year 10 students complete the Certificate III in Business as part of their curriculum. This qualification equips students with practical skills in administration, communication, and workplace technology - essential tools for success in senior study, part-time work, and future careers.

Completing the Certificate III in Business helps students develop confidence, organisation, and a professional mindset. It provides a real-world context for learning and gives every student a head start in understanding the business world.

We are proud to offer this program as a core part of Year 10, ensuring all students gain these valuable skills and are prepared for the next stage of their education and beyond. Students who complete all requirements will be awarded the national qualification - Certificate III in Business. Students who are only able to complete part of the qualification will still receive a statement of attainment, providing credit for the units they do achieve.

Your encouragement at home can make a real difference. We encourage parents to support their young person by discussing their learning, celebrating achievements, and encouraging them to apply the skills they are developing. Together, we can help every student succeed and make the most of this valuable qualification.

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we move towards the next round of MAP testing, our Year 7 class has been discussing ways they can continue to strengthen their reading skills and work towards improving their reading results.

One of the most effective ways students can support their literacy development is through regular independent reading at home. Research consistently shows a strong connection between regular reading and improvements in vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence when engaging with written texts. These skills play an important role in learning across all subject areas and can also support growth in MAP Reading assessments.

I am encouraging students to spend some time reading at home each week. This could include novels, biographies, non-fiction texts, or other age-appropriate books that interest them. The most important factor is developing a consistent habit of reading and engaging with written material.

Your support in encouraging reading at home is greatly appreciated and can make a meaningful difference in helping students build confidence and improve their reading skills. Even 5 minutes a day will make a difference to their outcomes.

Venue: Beaton Park Leisure Centre - 37 Foley Street, Gwynneville
Start time: Arrive by 8:45am for a 9am start
Finish time: Events will finish at 1pm and buses will depart shortly after
Uniform: Sport uniform - encouraged to wear house colour shirt
Catering: A sausage sizzle lunch will be provided for students, staff, volunteers and Community members
What to bring: Hat, full water bottle, recess/morning tea
