Update from the Campus Principal

Welcome back to Term 3.

As we begin the second half of the year, our focus remains on helping students grow academically, personally and socially through the priorities outlined in our 2026 Strategic Plan. This term is not about introducing new initiatives, but about strengthening the habits, routines and systems that support student achievement and wellbeing.

Warne, Cameron.jpg

Learning to Learn and Student Progress

A major focus this term will be helping students take greater ownership of their learning.

Following MAP Growth testing in Week 5, students will participate in structured learning conversations with their teachers to review their results, identify areas of growth and establish goals for the remainder of the year. These discussions will support students to better understand where they are currently achieving, what progress they have made and the steps required to continue improving. Alongside these conversations, staff will continue developing students' Learning to Learn habits, including organisation, self-management, responding to feedback and taking responsibility for their own progress.

This will also coincide with Year 12 HSC trial examinations in Week 5, and completion of HSC minimum standards testing for Year 10 students who were absent or are yet to meet the required standard.

Supporting Student Engagement Through CANVAS

Throughout Term 3, staff will continue encouraging students to use CANVAS as their primary learning platform.

Students will be supported to:

  • Access learning resources independently
  • Monitor upcoming tasks and deadlines
  • Review teacher feedback
  • Communicate effectively with teachers
  • Take greater ownership of their learning

By strengthening these habits, we aim to improve student engagement, assignment completion and confidence as independent learners.

Student Wellbeing and Leadership

Wellbeing continues to be a key focus across the campus.

This term, Mrs Kat Svarc will work alongside Mr Stellios Kentzopoulos in a wellbeing leadership role. Together they will support student wellbeing initiatives, strengthen student belonging and continue promoting a positive campus culture.

We have also refined our student leadership development structure.

Mr Joel Scruby will take responsibility for supporting the development of our prospective 2027 Student Leadership Team. His work will focus on identifying and developing emerging student leaders, helping prepare them for future leadership opportunities.

At the same time, Mr Kentzopoulos will continue working closely with our current 2026 Student Leadership Team, supporting them to successfully deliver their initiatives, strengthen student engagement and leave a positive legacy for future student leaders.

This approach allows us to invest in both our current and future student leaders while continuing to strengthen student voice across the campus. It's anticipated that Mr Scruby will coach and support students until graduation in 2027, inclusive of his homeroom responsibilities for this year level.

Strengthening Partnerships with Families

Parents remain an important part of the learning journey.

Throughout the term we will continue building opportunities for families to engage with learning, understand student progress and support learning habits at home. Our goal is to maintain a strong partnership between students, families and staff, ensuring every student receives consistent support and encouragement.

Campus Support Team Transition

As part of a global OneSchool initiative, Campus Board and Campus Administrator roles are transitioning to a new Campus Support Team (CST) structure.

We are pleased to welcome:

  • Vernon Gage – CST Lead
  • Ross Paulsen – Pastoral Care
  • Vernon Gage – Culture
  • Martin Gage – Operations and Buildings

The CST model has been designed to provide clearer accountability, simplify support structures and ensure campuses remain well supported by their local community.

Importantly, our student support processes, campus operations, escalation pathways and community support networks remain unchanged.

We would also like to sincerely thank our outgoing Campus Administrators and Campus Board members for their service, commitment and support of the Illawarra community. Their contribution has been greatly appreciated.

Looking Ahead

Our focus this term is simple: Consistency → Engagement → Completion → Achievement

By continuing to strengthen learning habits, student leadership, wellbeing and partnerships with families, we look forward to supporting every student to achieve their potential throughout Term 3.

Kind regards, Mr Cameron Warne cameron.warne@au.oneschoolglobal.com 0436 439 273

Staff Update | Secondary Science

As of 30 July 2026, Dr Shannon Marecic has concluded her employment with OneSchool Global. We thank Dr Marecic for her contribution to the Illawarra campus and wish her every success in her future endeavours.

To ensure continuity of learning, the current arrangements for practical lesson coverage will continue as previously communicated during Dr Marecic's period of leave. Students and parents can continue to refer to CANVAS for updates from teachers, including Mr Warne, regarding arrangements for Science classes.

A recruitment process for Dr Marecic's replacement will take place soon.

Any parent questions or concerns can be directed to Mr Warne.

Year 3 has had a very exciting start to Term 3!

'Bee Fever' has hit, thanks to our sustainability assignment in Cross Curricular. We have been working hard at drawing scientific drawings of bees, and even got to see how pollination works from a 'Bee's Eye View'- thanks to some flowers from Mrs O's garden and a pen microscope!
