Staffing Update

Mrs Kathy Allwright has joined our OSGGC teaching team as a Casual Teacher.

Although Mrs Allwright is a Primary teacher and will work mostly in Primary, she is also going to be working with our secondary students from time to time.

Mrs Allwright had her first two days at the campus this week to familiarise herself with the staff, students and systems. We are very excited to be welcoming her to our team.

Holiday Period

I would like to wish everyone a very safe and happy break.

This is a time for students and staff to refresh, recover and prepare for a busy Term Two. Students and staff return on Tuesday, 28 April.

Primary Excursion to Canberra ...

On Monday, 23rd March, Primary Stage 2-3 students travelled to the ACT to visit Parliament House and the National Arboretum.

After being cleared by security at the entrance, we were given a tour of Parliament House by a knowledgeable guide. We were fortunate enough to visit on a day when both Houses of Parliament were sitting, so our guide took us in to view the Senate chamber (red room) and the House of Representatives chamber (green room) and listen in to the discussions in each from viewing rooms above. A few eagle eyes spotted some familiar politicians!

We then had the opportunity to experience first-hand the process of putting forward a bill and debating whether it should be passed. Huntley, our Sarjeant-at-Arms, helped to begin and end proceedings while Charles, our speaker, kept everyone in order and our clerk, Trelise, ensured that the rules were followed appropriately. Acacia, our OSG Prime Minister, along with her party, debated with Henrik and his party over the merits and pitfalls of a mandatory three hours of team sports per week for all school students. Many other OSG parliamentarians added their thoughts and ideas to the discussion. Unfortunately, the bill was not passed ... this time!

After our lunch and play at the Pod Playground at the National Arboretum, we were given the challenge of forming teams and using maps for a scavenger hunt around the grounds before finally heading home, worn out, but in high spirits.

Thank you to our drivers for transporting the students there and back safely.

This term Year 7 has been completing a unit on Edible Art.

This term Stage 4 has been learning about exploring how to create meals that are nutritious, quick, safe, and tasty for busy teens.

Years 9-10 have completed the following:

How can I design a gourmet hamper that combines creativity, science, and sustainability using the design process?

This term Stage 5 has been learning about preservation methods and are to create a hamper out of 4 preservation methods such as- drying, chilling, freezing, smoking , canning, salting, pickling. They then created a theme for their hamper, food label tags.

Term 1 has come to a close, and everyone is look forward to their hard-earned holidays. The final weeks were a good time that nicely topped off a full-on term. We came in swinging and finished off with various highlights and fun side-quests in the final days.

Week 9 saw parent teacher interviews and Thursday ending with the cancellation of our athletics carnival - we look forward to hearing the new confirmed date.

Our last Friday of the term saw secondary students completing team-building activities and participating in a competitive volleyball game in place of the athletics carnival.

Week 10 rolled around and peaked on the morning of April Fools: Our generosity shone through with a school-wide egg hunt (with no eggs) at recess on Wednesday. Realisation slowly sprung on the students as they were continuously unsuccessful in their efforts. They did receive a participation award (one single egg) later in the day.

Thursday greeted students with free food - a burger and chips lunch never fails! It was just the boost we needed to carry us all through the final 100 minutes of term 1.

Thank you to each and every staff member, student, and community volunteer that contributed to school operations this term - the efforts never go unnoticed.

Please take the time to relax and recharge over this hard-earned break.
