Update from the Campus Principal

Hello and welcome to this week’s newsletter,

I am writing this from Leeton, where we have joined with Wagga to deliver the Mission Nutrition program. It has been a fantastic day of collaboration between staff and students from across the campuses. Hopefully, your son or daughter will be able to share some of what they learned and feel more informed about making healthy food choices moving forward. Thank you to the parents who supported the day—it is very much appreciated.

A special acknowledgement goes to one of the most valued members of our school community, Debbie Black, who has recently reached an incredible milestone of 20 years of service at OSG Condobolin. It would be difficult to find a family or student who has not been positively impacted by her professionalism, care, and commitment over that time. We sincerely thank Debbie for her outstanding contribution to our campus. While I won’t wish her another 20 years, I know we are all incredibly grateful for the support she continues to provide.

Year 7–11 exams are fast approaching, and there is currently a strong focus on planning and evaluation in these year levels. Our data consistently shows that students who focus on completing everyday tasks well are better prepared for their exams. A timetable will be sent home shortly, with the aim of ensuring every student is ready to perform at their best.

Our Student Leadership Team (SLT) has also been busy planning an end-of-year arts event. The goal is to showcase our students’ musical talents, alongside participation from Mt Victoria, who have expressed interest in being involved. While there are still a few details to finalise, this is shaping up to be a wonderful event, with opportunities for parent and community involvement. Please keep an eye out for further information in the coming weeks.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support.

Stay well,
Greg Mullins

Mini Museum Homework Project

For homework, students created their own Mini Museum exhibits to showcase an important part of Australian history.

Each display included 1–3 artefacts, museum labels, and a short information panel explaining its significance and helping others learn something new.

Students showed wonderful creativity and effort, presenting their learning in engaging and informative ways. Well done to Lauren and Betsy, whose exhibits were selected from our campus.

We are very proud of all students for their thoughtful work!

Primary Science

Primary students have been busy this term during Science experimenting with the states of matter! Working very well in groups, the students have been exploring different states of matter and how they interact with each other. In the images it shows the "Rainbow Jar" experiment where the students tested the density of different liquids and the "Volcano" experiment where we tested the reaction when bi-carb soda and vinegar were mixed together. The students thoroughly enjoyed these experiments and were able to write down what happened and why.

Food Technology

Sugar and Spice and All Things Nice

It has been a busy and delicious time in the Food Technology kitchen lately!

Year 7 students filled the kitchen with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked cinnamon swirl muffins, finished beautifully with a drizzle of vanilla glaze. The smell alone was enough to make anyone hungry! These sweet treats have been baked in preparation for a special event later in the term - maybe you will get to try one!

Year 8 students took on their “Use It Up” challenge, focusing on reducing food waste by using items from the fridge before they expire and pairing these with ingredients often found in the pantry. They prepared a rich and spicy version of Recipetin Eats' vodka pasta (substituting chicken stock for the vodka!). This task encouraged students to think creatively while ensuring items such as cream, tomato paste, fresh parsley and pasta were not wasted

Last week Year 12 students wrapped up their Preliminary course with a focus on superfoods. They blitzed up Jamie Oliver's nutritious energy balls using a base of Medjool dates, puffed brown rice, almonds, turmeric and pumpkin seeds, then finishing them off with a dusting of ground pumpkin seeds. Next they whipped together bananas, avocado and cacao powder to create a smooth vegan chocolate mousse - demonstrating both creativity and an understanding of healthy ingredient choices.

Year 12 have now transitioned into their HSC coursework, exploring the differences between commercial and domestic food production. As part of this, students crafted their own red curry paste from scratch and compared it to a ready-made version. Both red curry chicken dishes were a success, with students noting that the homemade paste had a slightly deeper red colour and a fresher, less oily finish.

It’s wonderful to see such enthusiasm, creativity and skill development across all year groups!

STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM

NEW ASSEMBLY SEGMENT: The Student Leadership Team now celebrate 🫵🏼 birthdays. This includes both students and teachers. We want everyone to be recognised no matter your age!

Last week also marked Mrs Black's 20th year of working at Condobolin One School Global. Congratulations to you!🎉 We always appreciate your hard work and will be very sad to say goodbye in less than 70 days🥲

The tutorial booking system is fully back up and running. STUDENTS must now aim to book 3 tutorials if they want to receive a house point. The bar was raised after Mr Hopgood informed us that if our goal is 2 tutorials then this is the standard. Therefore, students must go above and beyond to receive that house point. We know you can do it! Keep striving!

The SLT recently submitted an ATAR poster (as seen below) to the competition. We are yet to see the winner. 😁🏅 🤞🏼

Lastly, the SLT have been working tirelessly with Mr Mullins, Mr Trimmer & Mr Hopgood this term to get an activity day organised and approved for the 3rd of July. We look forward to releasing more news regarding this day SOON!!! 🏃🏼💨
