Dear parents,

Over the past fortnight, our campus has maintained a strong sense of focus and purpose as we move through the latter part of the term.

Our Year 7–10 students have engaged positively in their exam block, demonstrating preparation, resilience, and a willingness to apply themselves under test conditions. Across the remainder of the school, students have continued to complete key assessment tasks, ensuring a consistent focus on learning and progress across all year levels.

We have also continued to embed our campus expectations, with a clear and consistent approach evident in both learning environments and student conduct. This is helping to strengthen the sense of pride, responsibility, and shared standards across the campus.

In Primary, we were pleased to welcome Julie Murray (Regional Head of Primary) and Sarah Fothergill (Regional Head of English, Primary). Feedback highlighted a number of strengths across the campus and the continued progress of our students, which is a positive reflection of the work being undertaken in this space.

I would like to thank our parent and community volunteers who attended the recent Child Protection and Safeguarding webinar. Your ongoing support in this area is highly valued. A reminder for those who attended to please complete the required follow-up quiz.

We also welcome Ms Jackie Hinchy to the Brisbane team as Student Services COA, working Tuesday through Friday. I would also like to acknowledge Ms Sharon Jackson, who has stepped away from her role as a Campus Student Support Assistant. We thank Sharon for her contribution to the campus and are pleased she will remain part of the Brisbane team in a casual capacity. We congratulate Ms Yasmin Morrow, who has transitioned into this role from her previous fixed-term position, ensuring continuity of support for our students.

Looking ahead, there are several important dates for our community:

Pupil Free Day – Friday 26 June

This will be a dedicated day for staff to focus on reporting, planning, and campus operations, and a well-deserved break for students.

End of Term Parent Assembly (Zoom) – Thursday 2 July (1:40–2:10pm)

Origin Day – Friday 3 July (last day of term)

This will be a whole-school State of Origin and Big Freeze Day in support of those affected by MND. The day will include a range of student-led activities, games, and a Big Freeze dunking event. A “build your own” Subway lunch will be available for students to pre-order.

Fundraising is already underway, with a goal of $5,000 towards the Big Freeze initiative, and donations contribute to determining who will be dunked on the day. We encourage families to support this initiative through the donation link.

We look forward to finishing the term strongly, maintaining our focus on high standards, positive relationships, and consistent effort across the campus.

Ruby Sharpe – Year 9 Commerce

Ruby Sharpe has achieved the top result in Year 9 Commerce this semester at the Brisbane Campus. She has consistently been demonstrating an outstanding level of understanding and application of key economic and business concepts.

A highlight of Ruby’s performance has been her collaborative work with Ella Kirkpatrick on their entrepreneurial project, “The Magnetic Edit.” Together, they demonstrated excellent teamwork, combining creativity with well-structured business thinking to develop a compelling and practical concept.

Ruby communicates her ideas clearly and logically, using appropriate business terminology and structuring her responses to meet task requirements effectively. She consistently connects theory to real-world business situations, which places her work at the highest standard within the cohort.

Mr Gearing (Year 9 Commerce teacher) said that “Ruby consistently produces work of an exceptional standard. At a year 9 level, she demonstrates a good understanding of business concepts and applies them with clarity and confidence, both independently and in team settings.”

Ruby’s achievement reflects her dedication, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence. Finishing first in the cohort is a significant accomplishment, and she should be highly commended for her efforts this semester.

In Technology lessons, our Primary students have been exploring how we use our five senses to enjoy healthy and delicious food. They created a simple healthy snack and then reflected on which sense—sight, smell, touch, taste, or sound—made their snack the most enjoyable.

The day schedule is as follows:

8:50 to 9:20 - Students to arrive and meet in the gym for rollcall and donations will be collected.

9:20 to 10:25 - There will be a series of activities, where all students will be split into 2 teams.

MORNING TEA - To proceed as per usual and students to bring.

11:00 to 12:55 - State of Origin Matches

1:25 to 2:15 - Whole School Photo and Teachers v Year 12 Volleyball

2:15 to 3:05 - THE BIG FREEZE DUNKING! - where we require $5,000 to be raised via this smartsheet link FIGHTMND BIG FREEZE CHALLENGE. Send to family and friends ASAP, so we can dunk a series of teachers, CA's and the Year 12 cohort.

Students are allowed to wear fan gear of their given team colour (blue or maroon/red), examples include hats, socks, glasses etc. Just a reminder as usual no face paint, or hair dye is allowed. Students will be required to bring their 'gear' into school and remove before travelling home - DO NOT FORGET your gold coin donation.

The Year 9 and 10 students completed their final Farm to Fork dishes, demonstrating a strong aptitude for creating vibrant and visually impressive meals while working collaboratively in the kitchen. They incorporated sustainable ingredients and practices, and submitted detailed folios on their chosen ingredients, outlining the Farm to Fork process through step-by-step photographs and supporting research.

Over the past term, we have been working with staff and students to strengthen clarity around behaviour expectations across the campus.

Overall, behaviour at Brisbane is strong. Students are engaged in their learning, and many positive habits are already well established. This next step is about building on that foundation by ensuring expectations are clear, shared and applied consistently across the school.

Below is a link to the clear set of Campus Expectations, aligned to our values and our mission of developing life-ready students who learn how to learn and achieve.

These expectations were shared with students today as part of a four-week focus for the remainder of the term, and the response has been excellent. Clear expectations are not always popular, even with adults, but they play an important role in helping us achieve our best.

This approach also introduces a small number of supportive processes, including: recognition of positive behaviour and contribution; consistent recording and follow-up of behaviour incidents; a weekly Monday Reset for students who need support to get back on track and clear expectations linked to end-of-term activities.

These processes are intended to help students take ownership of their behaviour, learn from mistakes, and reset quickly when needed.

We will be referring to these expectations on an ongoing basis to support shared understanding and alignment across staff, students, parents and the wider campus community. I am confident they will play an important role in strengthening our campus and supporting all students to thrive.

This is part of building a calm, orderly and focused learning environment where all students can succeed. Thank you for your ongoing support in reinforcing these expectations with your child.
