Dear OSG Bairnsdale Families,

As we move further into Term 2, I would like to acknowledge the continued effort and commitment of our students, staff, and families. It has been a busy and productive term so far, with many positive learning experiences taking place across the campus.

Across the campus, we are maintaining a strong focus on engagement and high-quality learning. Thank you to our staff for their ongoing dedication to providing structured, supportive classroom environments that enable all students to succeed.

Our Learning Centre building has been a hive of activity this week, with contractors making strong progress on our CMP works. We look forward to returning to the space in the not-too-distant future. Stay tuned for updates regarding the new LC!

It has been wonderful to see a number of engaging learning opportunities taking place, with more to come:

Mission Nutrition: Students recently participated in our Mission Nutrition Global initiative, building awareness of healthy food choices and positive eating habits.

Old Gippstown Excursion: An upcoming excursion to Old Gippstown will provide students with a rich, hands-on historical learning experience for our primary students, supporting their understanding of local heritage.

As we enter the flu season, we encourage families to monitor symptoms closely and keep students at home if they are unwell. This helps protect the health and wellbeing of all members of our school community.

Congratulations to Demi who received the Perfect Persona Award.

Demi was recognised by her peers for being so engaged and dedicated to her learning, for booking tutorials with her teachers and remaining focused during her studies.

Keep up the amazing work Demi!!

This term, primary students have been reflecting on “What makes my pet special?”

They are learning to name pets in French and describe them using colours and simple adjectives, for example: “Le chien est noir.”

Students are working diligently to memorise new vocabulary and develop their pronunciation skills.

Their enthusiasm and effort are commendable—bravo!

Primary students constructing a racetrack for their ping pong ball to travel through. Students will alter the speed of their ball using oil, shampoo and syrup, demonstrating their understanding of viscosity.

The year 9 girls being artistic! They are creating a still life using three different methods: paint, drawing and mixed media.

In Digital Technology the Year 8’s are making CO2 cars, some of the students have started carving their cars into the shape they needed for their design, whether it’s slim, long, short or even big.

On the 12th of May the Year 11 Food Tech students from across Victoria met in Melbourne to explore Chinatown and the Victoria Market.

We learnt about Chinese immigration to Australia and their influence on Australian food culture, as well as the amazing history of the markets. We even got to enjoy samples of different cuisines along the way before finishing off with a warm jam donut!

A big thank you to all the staff and parents involved in making this excursion possible, we thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Staff Update

We take this opportunity to farewell Ben Butling, who will be heading to the United States to work in Summer Camp programs. We thank him for his contribution to the campus and wish him every success in this exciting new experience. Ben's last day will be Wednesday 27th May.

We are also pleased to welcome Felicity Veale into a new role, where she will be supporting our Campus Student Learning Support program. We look forward to the positive contribution she will make in this important area of our campus. Felicity will start her induction with us on Monday 25th of May.

Thanks to our wonderful canteen volunteers for the delicious chicken and salad wraps and bowls that were thoroughly enjoyed by the students at lunchtime today.

We’re pleased to introduce a new way to share your child(ren’s) House Points’ achievements.

From 11 May, parents will have access to the House Points dashboard in OnePortal. The dashboard will include the reason for the award, total House Points they have been awarded to date, their current Merit Certificate level, and how many points are needed to reach the next level.

House Points are at the heart of OneSchool Global’s student award program, to recognise notable achievements aligned with our Student Persona. This year we are encouraging all students to ‘Go for Gold’ and achieve 60 House Points across the academic year.

Parents, make sure you have notifications enabled for OnePortal so you don’t miss the updates!
