Dear OSG Bairnsdale Families,

The Big Question!

As we approach the end of a busy and productive term, it’s a timely moment to pause and reflect. This term has been filled with learning, challenge, growth, and success, and I want to sincerely thank our students, staff, and families for the commitment and resilience shown throughout.

In Week 8 at the Global Teacher Academy, OSG staff were encouraged to ask students about their assignments and explore the big questions behind their learning. I encourage you to do the same at home. Asking your children what “The Big Question” is for each of their assignments can be a great conversation starter. It offers valuable insight into current focus areas and may also highlight where your children are thriving, as well as where additional support may be helpful.

With MAP and NAPLAN testing now behind us, the countdown to the end of term and the holidays is on. I encourage students to continue showing kindness and care for one another, to keep striving for excellence in all they do, and to remain calm and orderly as we close out the term. Staff across all involved campuses are working hard to provide purposeful learning experiences and clear expectations, and your support at home in reinforcing these messages truly makes a difference.

Thank you once again for your ongoing partnership and support. I wish everyone a positive end to the term and I look forward to seeing you all at the end‑of‑term day that the SLT is currently busy organising.

Congratulations to Jed who was presented with the Perfect Persona Award at our Campus Assembly on Monday March 16th.

Jed was recognised by the SLT and received the award for always displaying diligence towards his schoolwork and remaining focused when in the learning center.

Year 11 Food Studies

As part of Bronte's Food Studies SAC, she tried a chocolate drink similar to the one prepared, served and consumed by the Mayan and Aztec people as early as 500BC.

She then designed a chocolate drink that drew inspiration from the preparation, flavours and food practices of the Mayan and Aztec people, while presenting it in a way that appeals to contemporary modern tastes.

Attention Year 9 Food Tech Students

Students are putting together a hamper of preserves for their assessment task this term. Just wondering if students could bring a basket or box from home to present it in and a bit of fabric for the top of the jars.

With a few household ingredients - PVA glue, water, food colouring and borax, the Year 8 students completed a practical summative task - making SLIME!

Well done to Harry raising legacy funds through the running of a successful Lego guessing competition.

The competition finished on Friday and Bronte was announced the winner with a guess of 965 Lego pieces.

The past couple of weeks have been very busy here at Bairnsdale Campus. With NAPLAN coming to a close last Tuesday.

Next week will also be very busy, and exciting. We have the athletics carnival on Monday, and PTI (parent teacher interview) on Thursday, students look forwards to a very exciting week.

Even more exciting, the secondaries can look forward to an upgrade in the LC, with CMP (campus modernization program) starting soon.

We also have the end of term approaching fast, we hope that students and parents alike are excited and looking forward to the event.

Strengthening safety across our global bus network - global webinar screening next Tuesday

Next Tuesday, OneSchool Global will launch Precious Cargo, a new global safety campaign for all volunteer bus drivers across our school. This campaign centres on a powerful safety film that highlights the real risks our drivers face every day - fatigue, distractions, speed, seatbelts, and substances. The film will be screened via a global webinar at 7.30pm local time.

The film is confronting by design and reinforces the non‑negotiable expectations we hold for every driver, in every region. You can watch a preview of the film here.

We encourage all households to register for this important global webinar screening at 7:30pm Tuesday 24 March.
