From the Principal’s Desk
If you were to walk through the Bairnsdale campus recently, you may have noticed a few things:
A steady hum of learning and productivity
Staff appearing with cuppa in hand, a smile on their face and a proactive approach to supporting the learning journey of students.
Students tackling challenges with growing confidence
In other words… business as usual — but in the best possible way.
The last fortnight has been one of momentum. There’s been a strong sense of progress in the primary and secondary Learning Centres, positive connections in the yard, and a shared commitment to doing things well — even when they’re not easy.
It’s always impressive to see students leaning into challenges — even if it occasionally looks like “I don’t get this yet…” followed by a breakthrough moment. I recently observed this while covering some primary maths teaching. Those “lightbulb” moments are very rewarding for students and equally inspiring for us as teachers to witness.
Positive Culture & Connections
A real highlight this fortnight has been the way our campus community continues to support one another.
From staff collaborating to solve problems, to students encouraging each other — these small moments are what build a strong, positive culture, while having some fun along the way. We’ve seen some great examples of humour helping to navigate challenges — a reminder that a well-timed laugh can be just as valuable as a well-placed strategy.
Campus Update
Our Learning Centre space has certainly been keeping everyone on their toes recently. While it’s meant a bit of flexibility and patience (and occasional creative use of alternative spaces), it’s been great to see how smoothly everyone has adapted.
The reward will be well worth it — we’re looking forward to returning to a refreshed space that supports learning even more effectively.
Farewell to a Valued Staff Member
I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank Mrs Jess Bryan who will be concluding her time with us on June 26th after nearly 14 years of dedicated service. Throughout her tenure, Jess has made a significant and lasting contribution to our campus community, supporting students and colleagues with professionalism, care, and commitment. We wish Jess every success and happiness in the next chapter and thank Jess sincerely for the positive impact she has made.
Events & Opportunities
Mission Nutrition – Students had the opportunity to engage with important health and wellbeing concepts through the Global Mission Nutrition program. It was great to see strong participation and thoughtful reflection around making healthy lifestyle choices.
Old Gippstown Excursion – Primary
Our excursion to Old Gippstown was a raging success and brought history to life for our primary students. It was a fantastic opportunity for hands-on learning and exploring how life looked in the past — without Wi-Fi!
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if we can support you or your child in any way.
Warm regards,
Brett Maxwell
Campus Principal
