Dear OSG Bairnsdale Families,

Conclusion to Term 1

As we reach the end of Term 1, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for their ongoing commitment and support. This term has been filled with valuable learning, growth and strong collaboration, and it has been wonderful to see our campus community working together so positively.

There is much to celebrate in the achievements of our students and staff so far this year, and we are proud of the progress that has been made across the campus. From Persona awards, House points, athletics day success, academic growth and success, SLT progress, Legacy project, the list goes on.

On behalf of OSG Bairnsdale, I wish all families a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday period. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for the new term on Tuesday, April 28th.

Congratulations Darvi, the first 2026 recipient of a Merit Certificate. Darvi was presented with her bronze certificate at assembly on Monday March 30th.

Congratulations to Ruby for receiving the Perfect Persona award. Ruby was recognised by the SLT for being a dedicated learner who is making significant progress and increasingly following her individual schedule with growing independence.

With some gentle prompting Ruby is responding warmly to her peers and staff, demonstrating her developing confidence and social engagement.

Keep up the amazing work Ruby, we are all very proud of you!!

Recently in primary humanities the students have been learning all about 'Australia's Neighbours'.

Interestingly the students learnt that Beef Rendang has been voted as the world's most popular food.

The students were given the opportunity to taste test the dish and see what they thought.

Armani reported that he believes it is the world's spiciest food and also told me that many of his classmates needed to rush for water after the tasting while others actually enjoyed it!!

Dulci and Saskia are building a donut delivery truck that will drop donuts to two different Lego households.

Lila and Jovan have built and coded a robot bike to travel 3 meters.

Year 8 have begun their new Food Technology unit, which focuses on reducing food waste and making thoughtful, sustainable choices in the kitchen.

This week, students put their learning into practice by producing a nutritious pasta dish, using ingredients efficiently and exploring ways to minimise waste while still creating a delicious, balanced meal.

Year 9 & 10 created a gourmet hamper this term.

They were learning about preservation and how ingredients can be transformed through pickling, jam, and relish making. They labelled their items and presented their products in a beautifully arranged hamper that showcased both their creativity and their developing food technology skills.

Last year during headstart, the Languages department ran an Education Perfect competition across the Yr 8 and 9/10 headstart classes.

The winning class for yr 8 French Headstart was Ms Rasoarahona's class including three Bairnsdale students

Students, staff and families had a wonderful day in Newborough on Monday March 23rd, joining with the Berwick Campus for our Athletics Day.

A special thankyou goes to our parents and family members for transporting students to the event, for your cheering from the sidelines and your photography - much appreciated by us all.

Ben will be finishing at OSG in Week 5 of next term, on 27 May, as he prepares to move to the USA to take on a summer camp role.

We are very appreciative of the support Ben has provided to our students during his time with us. He has consistently been a friendly, approachable, and helpful presence within the school community, building positive relationships with students and staff alike.

We thank Ben for his contribution to OSG and wish him every success and enjoyment in this exciting next chapter and his upcoming adventures.

SLT Report

These past two weeks the students took part in some fun and enjoyable activities.

On the 23rd of March we went to Newborough athletics track with the Berwick campus.

Students competed in many different activities, such as 800 meters, 100 meters, 200 meters, tug of war, long jump, high jump and shot put.

The Red Mustangs won the house cup, to the exasperation of the other houses.

To raise money for the year 12 legacy, Harry and some other students directed a sausage sizzle. Students and teachers could buy their lunch, and parents also came to get a sausage in bread. We thank the parents for their attendance at this school event.

Coming up, we have our bikeathon which will start and finish at Howitt Park.

Students will ride along the Mitchell River walking track to Lind Bridge.

For students who do not want to ride as far, or walk, there are alternative arrangements such as a small walkathon or riding for a shorter distance.

We are also looking forward to the long awaited campus modernization program.

The campus modernization program or CMP is where board members assess the school and ensure it is up to the standard that OSG expects.

Our campus needs some renovations to be brought up to the standard.
