As we come to the end of Week 8 and move into the final fortnight of Term 1, it is important that we continue to drive strongly through to the finish and not stop short. This is often the time where habits slip, but it is also where strong routines, consistent effort and a clear focus can make the biggest difference to student outcomes.

It was fantastic to finish the week with a spontaneous lunch prepared by our Student Leadership Team, featuring smoked chicken wings and wagyu steak sandwiches. These moments, while simple, play a significant role in strengthening our campus culture. They reflect student initiative, service and the positive environment we are continuing to build together at Armidale.

Next week will be a busy and important one. Parent–Teacher Interviews will be held on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday (pupil free day). These meetings are a valuable opportunity to connect, discuss progress, and ensure that students are well supported as we head into Term 2. I strongly encourage all families to take the time to engage in these conversations.

We are also looking forward to the Armidale/Maitland Athletics Carnival in Tamworth. There is a real sense of excitement among both staff and students as we take on the role of host campus this year. Events like this are significant for building connection, school spirit and community. A sincere thank you to our parents and wider community who have supported this event—particularly given that we are usually the ones travelling. Your support helps make these opportunities possible.

As we approach the end of term, it is also a significant time for our Year 12 students as they complete their Preliminary exams. This marks an important milestone in their HSC journey and provides valuable feedback on their current progress. I encourage our Year 12 students to reflect on their performance, seek feedback from their teachers, and use this information to set clear goals moving forward.

Hands-On Learning, Big Ideas and Exciting Challenges in Primary

It has been a wonderful fortnight of learning and excitement across Primary, with students engaging wholeheartedly in a range of hands-on, collaborative, and creative experiences.

Our students have been working incredibly hard in Mathematics, especially as they explore 3D objects and measurement. They have enjoyed getting hands-on with materials and activities that support their understanding of shape, structure, and the practical applications of measurement. It has been fantastic to see their enthusiasm as they deepen their skills through active exploration.

During English, Stage 3 have been working collaboratively on their persuasive writing tasks. Students are supporting each other as they unpack text structures, strengthen their arguments, and incorporate effective language devices. Their teamwork and growing confidence in writing have been a real highlight. Stage 2 have been thoroughly enjoying their new class text, Kensuke’s Kingdom. Alongside their reading, they have also been developing their own persuasive techniques. The way they are connecting ideas from their novel study has led to rich discussions and thoughtful responses.

A particularly exciting moment this fortnight was the launch of our LEGO Lab Challenge. Students were thrilled to unbox our brand-new LEGO Education kit! Over the coming weeks, teams will be working together to complete an official LEGO Education challenge. We’re all very much looking forward to seeing the creative designs, problem‑solving, and teamwork that emerge.

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held next Wednesday afternoon and Thursday, as outlined in last week’s Signal message.
Primary parents only need to book an interview with class teachers. If you have accidentally booked interviews with other KLA teachers, please remove these bookings over the weekend so that time slots remain available for families who need them. Class teachers can provide information about all learning areas. Any remaining non‑class‑teacher bookings will be removed on Monday morning.

Our Athletics Carnival is fast approaching on Friday 27 March. Primary students have thoroughly enjoyed their preparation sessions with Mr Stone and are feeling ready and confident. We are looking forward to a fantastic day of participation, sportsmanship, and fun. We hope to see many families there cheering the students on!

Food Tech Fun in Our New Kitchen

Students have been making the most of Armidale’s fantastic new Food Technology facilities this term, cooking up a variety of delicious and healthy creations.

Year 7 began with sweet and savoury scones before moving on to colourful Focaccia Edible Artwork, combining baking skills with creativity.

Year 8 explored nutritious meal ideas, preparing Spaghetti Bolognaise, almond pancakes, berry smoothies, and even healthy chocolate zucchini muffins, learning how simple swaps can boost nutrition.

Stage 5 students rolled up their sleeves for a unit on preserving foods, mastering safe food preparation and storage while producing vibrant preserved vegetables and fruits.

The new kitchen spaces have inspired students across all year levels, and we look forward to many more tasty projects ahead!

Pi Day at Armidale

Every day is a great day to eat pie, and for the maths faculty, the 14th March is the best day to eat pie. Congratulations to all our budding mathematicians across Australia who began to memorise digits of pi towards celebrating Pi Day. Here is a pic of local winners who recited or wrote their digits. This years' winner came in with 125 digits. Great effort.

Strengthening safety across our global bus network - global webinar screening next Tuesday

Next Tuesday, OneSchool Global will launch Precious Cargo, a new global safety campaign for all volunteer bus drivers across our school. This campaign centres on a powerful safety film that highlights the real risks our drivers face every day - fatigue, distractions, speed, seatbelts, and substances. The film will be screened via a global webinar at 7.30pm local time.

The film is confronting by design and reinforces the non‑negotiable expectations we hold for every driver, in every region.

We encourage all households to register for this important global webinar screening at 7:30pm Tuesday 24 March.

The webinar is mandatory viewing for all OSG bus drivers.

Campus Community Support (CCS) Program

OSG Armidale Campus is inviting community members to spend a rostered day on campus to support the Campus Community Support (CCS) program. We warmly invite members of our wider community to get involved — including grandparents, uncles, aunts and other family members — in addition to parents.

The role of the CCS is to provide a positive influence for the campus and to support school staff in view of them maintaining and upholding the ethos and values of the community. An important part of the CCS role is to be seen but not interfering, on the alert and helpful to the staff and students at all times.

Community Campus Support (CCS) personnel must complete the Volunteer Induction including a valid Working with Children Check.
