Welcome back to all our families and staff across OneSchool Global Victoria and Tasmania. I hope you each had a relaxing and rejuvenating break, finding time to recharge for what promises to be an incredibly productive and fast-paced term.

It has been wonderful to see the energy returning to our campuses as students reconnect with their peers and staff and dive back into their self-directed learning and new assignments.

A special thank you to our Year 7 parents who joined us for the OSGAware webinar on Tuesday night; your engagement is vital as your children navigate this important initiative.

I want to extend a massive thank you and a heartfelt "well done" to our students for the ANZAC Day assemblies held on Day 1. The respect, maturity, and solemnity you displayed in honouring those who served was truly commendable; it was a proud start to the term.

As we settle into the coming weeks, please take a moment to revisit the letters sent by your Campus Principals during the first few days, and remember to access OnePortal regularly for the latest updates and resources.

As the colder weather sets in this term, a quick reminder regarding uniform expectations: maintaining a high standard of dress reflects the pride we take in our community, so let’s ensure we are all meeting those requirements every day.

I also ask that all families discuss their high expectations of their child whilst travelling in the buses. Most do the right thing every morning and afternoon, however I do at times hear of situations and behaviours that are less than acceptable. This may place the safety of everyone on the bus at risk.

Looking ahead, we have much to celebrate, including welcoming our mums onto campus for Mother’s Day and the much-anticipated Mission Nutrition day.

It has been a busy start for me as well; I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Bairnsdale in Week 1. This week I have visited Melton and Hamilton and I attended Bendigo campus on Thursday for OSG Aware. Next week, I will be visiting Tasmania Campuses. I look forward to catching up with many of you on the ground as we kick off a successful Term 2 together!

I don’t know what is going more quickly – the holidays or the first few weeks of term!

Year 9 Commerce is finishing up their learning journey on How to be an Entrepreneur and finalizing their summative task. We will then quickly move on to our next assignment which concerns International Trade and Interdependence. Certainly interesting times in which to tackle that topic.

TCE Business is still exploring the concepts of Operations Management and are beginning to refine techniques that relate to time management and examination technique. Soon, we will be moving onto Human Resource Management as we expand our knowledge and head into mid year examinations.

TCE Accounting is also starting to get interesting with students expanding on their base knowledge of general journal entries and learning how to post these journal entries to the general ledger. From there, they can create a trial balance.

All of the students undertaking their learning in this faculty are very capable and I look forward to each and every one of them progressing on their individual journeys.

Looking back on Term 1, it has been incredibly encouraging to see all students actively engaging in their English assessments. Across both of our Tasmanian campuses, Year 7 students produced imaginative fractured fairytales, reworking familiar stories into something entirely their own. From Australian beanstalks and drop bears to three-legged pigs, their creativity and originality were on full display.

Year 8 students delivered impressive documentary-style presentations on sustainability issues, making excellent use of multimedia. Their projects ranged from designing t-shirts to incorporating drone footage, demonstrating both innovation and a high level of effort. Year 9 students crafted thoughtful and persuasive speeches, while Year 10 students developed their essay writing skills through insightful reflections on the theme of “loss of innocence.”

As we move into Term 2, there will be an increased focus on preparation, with exams scheduled for Week 8. Teachers will continue to support students in building the skills and confidence needed to achieve their best possible results. As assessment deadlines and exams approach, it is important for students to manage their time effectively, maintain balance, and look after their wellbeing.

We are excited by the strong start to the year and look forward to seeing students continue to challenge themselves, grow in confidence, and take pride in their achievements throughout the term ahead.

This term, Year 7 and Year 8 students are engaged in exciting and contrasting music units that develop their creativity, listening, and performance skills.

Year 7 students are exploring Music Around the World, where they investigate how music reflects culture, identity, and storytelling across different regions, including Japan, Australia, Ireland, and the Caribbean. Through listening, performance, and group activities, students learn to identify musical elements such as rhythm, melody, and instrumentation, while developing confidence through collaborative performances and presentations.

Year 8 students are studying Technological Developments in Film Music, focusing on how sound and music shape storytelling in film. They compare traditional orchestral music with modern digital techniques, exploring tools such as synthesizers and audio software. Through analysis and practical tasks, students learn how composers create mood and atmosphere. Their unit culminates in a creative project where they design a soundtrack for a film clip using digital editing techniques.

Both programs aim to build creativity, collaboration, and critical listening skills, while fostering an appreciation of music in different cultural and technological contexts.

It is with great delight that we introduce our fantastic new Primary Teacher, Ms Ana Kong!

Ms Kong joins us with extensive primary teaching experience, which will strongly support our L2L Framework and literacy focus. She has already proven herself to be an invaluable member of our team, assisting with the smooth running of activities at our Mother’s Day Morning Tea on 8 May.

Term 2 has arrived! As we begin the term, we want to encourage everyone to consider good habits and study strategies to adopt going forward, especially with exams coming up at the end of term.

In Week 1, Friday the 1st, students put together a signed thank you card to present to our Admin staff as our campus celebrated Admin Professionals Day. We would like to remind students to say a big thank you to our Admin staff when you see them for all that they do!

Following this event, our campus celebrated Mother's Day on Friday the 8th! The SLT prepared a delicious morning tea for all the mothers and grandmothers to enjoy, as well as some fun activities for the mothers and students to take part in together.

The Lead the Week initiative is set to begin in Week 3, and we look forward to seeing what strategies and advice each year group will bring forward!

On Wednesday of week 2, Launceston campus was blessed with a visit from The Hon. Rosemary Armitage, a member of Tasmania's Legislative Council. The SLT and Mr. Dunham took her on a guided tour of our campus, and she was more than impressed with the extensive facilities on display. Attached below are some snaps from her visit.

In 2026, all OneSchool Global Australia Primary students will participate in the Australasian Problem-Solving Mathematical Olympiads (APSMO) program across Terms 2 and 3.

Road safety is something that affects every one of us, whether we are drivers, passengers, cyclists, or pedestrians. Each time we step onto the road or into a vehicle, we have an opportunity to make choices that keep not only ourselves safe, but everyone around us as well. This month, we are proud to support the Fatality Free Friday initiative, which will be marked on Friday, 29 May 2026.

Since its inception in 2007, the initiative (led by the Australian Road Safety Foundation) has grown into one of the largest national community-based road safety programs in Australia. While the campaign focuses on achieving a single day without road fatalities, its message reaches far beyond one date on the calendar. It challenges all road users to reflect on their habits and consider how small, consistent changes can lead to safer outcomes every day of the year.

At its core, Fatality Free Friday promotes a simple but powerful idea: if a community can come together to prevent deaths on the road for just one day, it demonstrates what is possible when safety becomes a shared priority. It reminds us that reducing road trauma is not only the responsibility of authorities or policymakers - it begins with individual awareness and decision-making.

Road safety remains one of the most pressing global challenges facing society today. The human cost is significant, and the ripple effects extend well beyond those directly involved. Families, communities, and workplaces all feel the impact when road incidents occur. Without a deliberate and ongoing commitment to safer behaviour, these impacts will continue to grow.

As a school community, we all play an important role in promoting safer roads. Whether travelling to and from campus, supervising students, or modelling behaviour for younger people, our actions matter. By demonstrating responsibility and care, we reinforce positive habits that can last a lifetime.

Here are some ways members of our community can contribute:

For Parents:
Model safe and attentive driving at all times, particularly when children are present. Use conversations during travel as opportunities to reinforce awareness and discuss safe behaviours, including the importance of speaking up when something feels unsafe.

For Drivers (including staff and bus drivers):
Focus on maintaining safe speeds, minimising distractions, and prioritising passenger wellbeing. A calm and attentive driver sets the tone for a safe journey.

For Passengers:
Remember that your voice matters. If you feel uncomfortable or notice unsafe behaviour, it is important to speak up respectfully. Encouraging safe choices can help prevent harm.

For Pedestrians:
Stay aware of your surroundings, especially near roads and crossings. Avoid distractions such as mobile phones, and model safe habits for others in the community.

Fatality Free Friday is not simply about one day without tragedy - it is about building a culture where safety is embedded in everyday actions. Through shared responsibility and consistent awareness, we can contribute to lasting change within our community.

Let us use this opportunity to reflect on our own road use and recommit to behaviours that protect and support one another. By working together, we can help create safer roads - not just on one day, but every day.

An email went out earlier this week inviting parents to participate in our Campus Quality Rubric Assessment visits, and we would love to have you attend! As a reminder, the dates for our campuses are as follows:

• Launceston – Tuesday the 12th May
• Hobart – Wednesday the 13th May

Parent participation is scheduled from 9:00am - 9:30am. To confirm your attendance, please respond to the email sent from principal.tas@au.oneschoolglobal.com with the campus you will be attending.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will begin testing of their new Aus Alert mobile phone emergency broadcast system.

Launceston has been listed as one of the testing sites and, in June, mobile users in this region should receive clearly labelled test phone messages from Aus Alert. This is ahead of national testing day scheduled for July. You may wish to advise your school community of these forthcoming events to help avoid possible confusion or anxiety.
