Dear Parents,

Over the past few weeks, the Sydney Campus has been a hive of activity, highlighting both the enthusiasm of our students and the strength of our leadership programs. The final of the Primary Pickleball Competition marked the conclusion of a highly successful student leadership initiative. This event showcased not only impressive skill and sportsmanship, but also the dedication and organisation of our Student Leadership Team; we extend our sincere thanks to the SLT for their efforts in planning and facilitating this initiative. The students have also benefited from valuable collaborative opportunities across campuses. We recently hosted Melton SLT, online during our assembly, strengthening connections beyond our campus. In addition, workshops were held on Thursday last week with the Brisbane Student Leadership Team provided a meaningful platform for sharing ideas and building leadership capacity. These experiences continue to enrich our students’ development as confident and capable leaders.

As we moved into Week 6, there was a strong academic focus across the school, with assessments taking place in all stages and curriculum areas. It has been pleasing to see students demonstrating focus, persistence, and a commitment to their learning.

Our Primary students are continuing to work diligently across all aspects of their learning. They have been creating thoughtful and effective study plans to support their organisation and preparation and have been completing engaging assessment tasks in science, including investigations into states of matter. Additionally, they have been developing their creativity through watercolour painting and building their writing skills through a narrative sequel writing task.

In Secondary, students have been actively preparing for upcoming examinations. Although Year 8 did manage to fit in an exciting event to conclude their Design Technology unit, testing the speed of their CO2 racing cars in the hall with students from Mount Victoria Campus joining them. It really was wonderful to see learning in action.

With the Year 7–10 examination period approaching, there has been a clear focus on revision and consolidation of key concepts. Our Year 11 students will also soon undertake their exams, with an opportunity to experience study leave for the first time, allowing them to further develop independence and effective study routines. To support all secondary students in their preparation, we hosted Elevate Study Skills sessions this week. These sessions provided students with practical strategies to assist in planning, organisation, and effective revision techniques, equipping them with the tools needed to approach their assessments with confidence.

The Canvas parent sessions continue to provide invaluable opportunities for parents to access their child’s courses and understand the platform and student assessment and grading. Sincere thanks to all parents who have been able to give up the time to join us at one of these sessions. The sessions will continue, until the end of the term, commencing at 9 am each Wednesday.

We wish all students the very best as they continue their preparations for upcoming tasks and exams and thank our staff and families for their ongoing support in fostering a focused and positive learning environment.

Acting Campus Principal - Week 6

Our Lego Lab sessions have been a wonderful opportunity for students to work together, showing strong teamwork, creativity, and perseverance. It has been fantastic to see the effort they put into their designs and builds.

Congratulations to Charlton and Carson for winning the competition with their magnificent delivery car—an outstanding achievement!

The Primary Pickleball Tournament was a fantastic event, with teams rallying against each other in an exciting knockout competition. Students showed great sportsmanship both on and off the court, with enthusiastic cheering and support from the sidelines creating a lively atmosphere.

Well done to all participants, and congratulations to our grand final winners!

Students are beginning to work towards earning their pen licenses, demonstrating growing care and pride in their handwriting. To support this process, a clear rubric and self-assessment checklist are used alongside a teacher checklist, allowing students to reflect on their readiness and apply for their license.

Congratulations to those students who have already received their pen licenses—this is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful milestone in their learning journey!

Last week, all students from Years 7–12 participated in our Elevate Study Skills sessions, designed to equip them with practical and effective strategies to enhance their learning and study practices.

Delivered by Elevate Education, an organisation that specialises in high impact study skills programs, these sessions focused on evidence-based techniques used by high performing students. Throughout the workshops, students explored strategies such as effective time management, goal setting, active revision, note-taking, and techniques for improving memory and retention.

Importantly, students were guided on how to study rather than simply what to study. They learnt how to break down tasks, avoid common study pitfalls, and develop consistent habits that support long term academic success. Each session was tailored to suit the developmental needs of different year levels, ensuring the strategies were practical, relevant, and immediately applicable.

We look forward to seeing our students continue to build on these skills as they strive towards their academic goals.

This semester, Year 8 Music students have been exploring the powerful role that music and sound play in film and media. Through the study of film scores, sound effects, mood, character themes, and digital production techniques, students have developed their understanding of how sound can transform the way a story is experienced on screen.

As part of their major assessment task, students were challenged to create a soundtrack for a film scene using Canva. They selected, edited, and layered music and sound effects to enhance mood, create atmosphere, and support the narrative. The task required students to think creatively while applying their knowledge of musical concepts and digital production skills.

The projects created by Isla Matthews and Jamieson Hales highlight the creativity, technical skill, and musical understanding being developed within the Year 8 Music program.

Everything you hear in these projects has been created by the students through their own editing and sound design choices. Students carefully selected, timed, layered, and balanced music and sound effects to support the mood, characters, and storytelling within their chosen film scenes.

We hope you enjoy experiencing these examples of student learning and creativity.

Last Thursday, the Brisbane Campus Student Leadership Team (SLT) visited the Sydney Campus. The aim for the visit was to collaborate and share ideas with between campuses. Both SLT groups gained some valuable insights, shared their ideas for each SLT portfolio and came up with some joint campuses initiatives for Term 3 and moving forward.

It was a great experience for all involved and great for both groups to bring back the many learnings for their campuses. Thanks to Mr Shane Price and Mrs Glenda Kelly for organising and bringing the Brisbane SLT to our campus.

Our Year 7 - 11 students commence their exams on Tuesday, June 16th. Please read the information below regarding exam timetables and procedures.

On Wednesday the 3rd of June, Year 7 participated in a debating competition as a part of their Term 2 Summative Assessment.

The girls debating team gave a very convincing argument both for and against why 'News should always be free to read online', while the boys team presented strong arguments for and against why 'Online news media should not be trusted'.

Congratulations to the debating teams for well delivered arguments!

The Year 8 CO₂ Car Race Day at OneSchool Global Sydney was an exciting and rewarding event, showcasing the creativity, precision, and engineering skills of our students. The day was made even more special with the attendance of students and staff from Mt. Victoria, adding to the sense of shared community and friendly competition. Throughout the event, students demonstrated outstanding effort in both the design and racing of their cars, with close heats and impressive speeds capturing the attention of all involved.

Congratulations to Ambrose Proctor, who was crowned the overall winner on the day, reflecting both his technical skill and dedication to the project. A sincere thank you goes to all students and staff who contributed to making the event such a success. From preparation and organisation to racing and support on the day, the enthusiasm and teamwork on display ensured a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Wellbeing Wrap - Approaching Exams with Confidence

Student wellbeing plays a vital role in learning, engagement, and overall development. As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting every student, this fortnightly wellbeing section will provide practical strategies and insights to help students thrive both at school and at home.

Exam Preparation and Wellbeing

As exam period approaches, it is natural for students to experience a range of emotions, including excitement, pressure, nervousness, and anticipation. While some stress can help motivate students, maintaining a healthy balance is important for both wellbeing and performance.

One of the most effective ways to build confidence is through consistent preparation. Creating a revision plan, breaking study into manageable sessions, and focusing on one subject at a time can help students feel organised and reduce feelings of overwhelm.

It is equally important to look after physical and emotional wellbeing during exam preparation. Maintaining regular sleep patterns, staying active, eating well, and taking short breaks can all support concentration, memory, and overall resilience.

Families can play an important role by providing encouragement, helping students maintain healthy routines, and focusing on effort rather than outcomes. A calm and supportive environment can help students approach exams with greater confidence and perspective.

At school, we continue to support students through revision opportunities, study resources, and guidance to help them prepare effectively.

Exams are an opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned, but they do not define a student's worth or future success. Encouraging preparation, balance, and self-belief can help students perform at their best.

Confidence grows through preparation, persistence, and doing your best one step at a time.
