Update from the Campus Principal

Dear Parents,

As we move steadily toward winter, the cooler mornings have certainly started to settle in across Sydney. Notwithstanding the changing weather, it continues to be a wonderful sight each morning to see students stepping off buses and arriving on campus ready for the day ahead. Their enthusiasm and energy remain one of the highlights of daily school life.

It has also been fantastic to see students continuing to enjoy and make the most of our new facilities. A wonderful example of this has been the Pickleball Tournament organised by the Student Leadership Team (SLT). Following the success of the Secondary competition in Term 1, it has now been the Primary students’ turn to take to the courts. The excitement has been palpable, and it has been especially pleasing to witness the enjoyment and sportsmanship displayed by students throughout the tournament.

While co-curricular activities continue to enrich campus life, our core business remains teaching and learning. To support this important partnership between school and home, we remind parents that our Parent Canvas Training Workshops are continuing every Wednesday at 9:00am through to Week 9. We respectfully request that at least one parent from each OSG Sydney household attend a session. Our goal is to ensure that all households can confidently access their children’s Canvas courses and support their learning journey in an informed and meaningful way.

On the student wellbeing and behaviour development front, the school is currently driving a “Restorative Conversations” campaign. This initiative aims to empower students to develop greater personal agency within their school environment by encouraging them to initiate restorative conversations with peers and teachers in alignment with the OSG ethos and values. We are already seeing encouraging signs of students increasingly taking ownership of their interactions and relationships within the campus community.

Week 4 also saw the successful rollout of Mission Nutrition Day across the campus. Students and staff alike embraced the challenge with great enthusiasm and clearly learned a great deal about nutrition while having fun along the way. It was wonderful for our campus to participate in the global implementation of this initiative and to see such positive engagement across all year levels.

As we move into the second half of Term 2, we would like to sincerely commend all parents who continue to make an active effort to participate in their children’s learning journeys. Your partnership and support are deeply appreciated and remain central to the ongoing growth and success of our students and school community.

We wish all families a wonderful fortnight ahead and look forward to welcoming many more parents onto campus for the upcoming Parent Canvas Training sessions.

History Competition

Our History Competition was a wonderful celebration of student learning and creativity. Students were challenged to reflect on a significant historical event in Australia and present their understanding through a diorama, complete with artefacts and informative displays. The range of entries, including impressive PowerPoints, detailed dioramas and thoughtfully created artefacts, was truly outstanding.

All projects were proudly displayed in the Primary Learning Centre for a week, where both students and staff enjoyed exploring and learning about these important moments in Australian history.

Congratulations to Vinny Wiggins and Elsi Woodford, who were selected to represent Sydney in the OSG History Competition. An outstanding effort by both students!

OSG Aware

Our OSG Aware sessions got off to a fantastic start this week, with students highly engaged and actively participating. In Stage 2, the focus was on feelings and emotions, where students worked collaboratively to identify physical gestures and body language, helping them better understand how these can guide our thoughts and responses.

Stage 3 revisited the Zones of Regulation, with students exploring how someone might feel in each zone and discussing the reasons behind these emotions. The session concluded with a meaningful group task, allowing students to apply their understanding in a practical and collaborative way.

It has been wonderful to see such positive engagement and thoughtful participation across both stages.

Mission Nutrition - A Mission Brought to Life

Last Friday, Sydney campus joined all others across the globe in delivering a full day, high energy learning experience that moved beyond a traditional lesson structure. From the very beginning, there was a clear sense of momentum and excitement.

Across all year groups, engagement was excellent. Students were actively involved, thinking critically, collaborating with peers, and were fully immersed in the experience. Thank you to all staff who played a key role in bringing the day to life, creating an environment where students could take ownership, explore concepts deeply, and remain energised throughout.

One of the standout moments of the day was the Final Mission. The challenge required students to draw together everything they had learned, working collaboratively under pressure to solve problems and make informed decisions.

Throughout the day, students engaged with nutrition concepts in practical and meaningful ways, through hands-on activities, rich discussions, and the support of our healthy canteen experience. These opportunities helped strengthen the connection between knowledge and the everyday choices students make about their wellbeing.

We look forward to building on the momentum from this special day, as we continue to support healthy habits and lifelong learning across the whole school.

Wellbeing Wrap

Staying Motivated Through the Term

Student wellbeing plays a vital role in learning, engagement, and overall development. As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting every student, this fortnightly wellbeing section will provide practical strategies and insights to help students thrive both at school and at home.

Finding Balance During a Busy Term

As we move through the middle of the term, it is common for students to begin feeling tired, less motivated, or overwhelmed by increasing workloads and commitments. This is a normal part of the school term, and taking small steps to maintain balance can make a significant difference to student wellbeing.

Encouraging students to break tasks into smaller, manageable steps can help reduce feelings of stress and build confidence. Taking regular breaks, celebrating progress, and maintaining healthy routines such as sleep, movement, and downtime are all important in supporting focus and motivation.

It can also be helpful to check in with students about how they are feeling and remind them that it is ok to ask for support when needed. Open conversations at home and school can help students feel understood, encouraged, and more confident in managing challenges.

At school, we continue to support students through positive relationships, structured routines, and opportunities for success. At home, families can support wellbeing by encouraging balance, acknowledging effort, and helping students maintain healthy habits during busy periods.

Small, consistent actions can help students stay motivated and continue building confidence as the term progresses.

Progress matters more than perfection - small steps each day help students stay motivated and confident.
