Update from the Campus Principal

Dear Parents,

As we come to the end of another busy term, I have found myself reflecting not so much on individual events, but on the many small moments that collectively shape the culture of a school.

Schools rarely stand still. Each week brings new opportunities, new challenges and new reasons to celebrate. Yet, when we pause to look back over the term as a whole, it becomes clear just how much has been accomplished through the collective efforts of our students, staff and families.

Term 2 has been a term of consolidation.

Following the excitement of moving into our new campus earlier this year, we have continued to establish the routines, relationships and learning environment that will serve our school well for many years to come. It has been encouraging to see students confidently making these spaces their own while continuing to demonstrate the respect and responsibility that define our school community.

As always, teaching and learning have remained at the heart of everything we do.

Our classrooms have continued to be places of curiosity, challenge and growth, supported by teachers who consistently demonstrate professionalism, care and a genuine commitment to helping every student reach their potential. I would like to sincerely thank our staff for the energy and dedication they bring to their work each day.

This term has also seen the continuation of our Parent Canvas Workshops. It has been wonderful to see families engaging with these sessions as we strengthen the partnership between home and school. When parents are well informed and actively involved in their children's learning, students are better supported to achieve success both academically and personally.

Beyond the classroom, students have continued to embrace opportunities to connect with one another. Our Primary students thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Student Leadership Team pickleball competition, demonstrating not only enthusiasm and healthy competition but also the sportsmanship and encouragement that make these events so worthwhile.

We have also continued to encourage restorative conversations as part of our commitment to building a culture where respect, responsibility and positive relationships are valued. Developing these life skills remains just as important as academic achievement and contributes significantly to the safe and supportive learning environment we all value.

As we head into the holiday break, I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to rest, spend time with family and reflect on the term that has passed. Growth is rarely the result of one significant moment. More often, it is the product of many small decisions made consistently over time. Every lesson learned, every challenge overcome and every act of kindness contributes to the people our students are becoming.

On behalf of all our staff, thank you for your continued support throughout the term.

We wish every family a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday and look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting term ahead.

Warm regards,

Chris van Niekerk

Visual Arts

In Visual Arts, students have enjoyed exploring how artists use different materials and techniques to create an underwater world. They are creating two artworks using watercolour and oil pastels, experimenting with colour and texture to bring their ideas to life.

Resources for Term 3

In Term 3 Primary students will become engineers and build their own simple machines. They will learn engineering concepts through different construction activities and will need lots of cardboard for these activities. If you have any cardboard boxes or cereal boxes at home, we would love to have them!

Please bring them to school and give them to Mrs Lans.

Preparing ahead......

In Week 6 each student will need to bring to school a shoe box or a lidded box as well as a clear glass jar to make a ‘story jar’.

Year 11 Health and Movement Science Excursion

On Wednesday, 1st July, OSG Sydney Campus Year 11 Health and Movement Science (HMS) students travelled to sunny Cromer for an engaging day of hands-on learning as exercise and sports science researchers. The excursion provided students with the opportunity to investigate how the body moves and performs during physical activity while applying their classroom knowledge in a practical setting.

Upon arrival, students were warmly welcomed by the friendly and experienced team at PhysXrehab. It was also a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with fellow HMS students from other campuses and share their growing understanding of Biomechanics.

Throughout the day, students worked alongside their HMS teachers and peers across three practical stations: sprinting, throwing, and jumping. At each station, students participated in a range of activities that involved measuring, assessing, and analysing movement techniques to better understand the principles of human performance.

The expertise and guidance provided by the PhysXrehab staff made the experience both informative and inspiring. Students gained valuable insight into how athletes assess and enhance performance, as well as the processes involved in injury prevention and rehabilitation. These direct experiences further enriched their understanding of the Body and Mind in Motion unit studied in the course.

A special thank you to Annette Shore for driving the Sydney students to and from the venue. We greatly appreciate your time, support, and contribution to making this valuable learning experience possible.

Campus news

Today we held our SLT led Activity Day fundraiser "Mini Olympics" which was aimed at raising money for the Special Olympics

It was a great start to the day where students had an Olympic torch relay that concluded with a student tunnel into the hall. The opening ceremony took place after this where each country competed for the best "Country Chant" which went towards their final standings for the day.

Primary and Secondary then split into their respective teams and the events took place for the bulk of the day with all students competing in good spirit displaying sportsmanship and living the OSG Values.

At lunch time each country had a food or drink stall that was focused on selling food and drinks related to their nominated country. The proceeds of the stall went towards the Special Olympics charity as mentioned above.

At the end of the day the points were collated and a Grand Final between the two top ranked countries took place in a winner take all soccer match. A huge congratulations to team MEXICO who took the Gold Medals with GREAT BRITAIN who took out the runners up Silver Medals

After the Grand Final, students, staff and parents returned to the hall for the closing ceremony and a performance from our year 12 band. A huge thank you to all the students, staff and parents that were involved in coordinating this extremely successful day.

Donations will be open until 5pm Friday, 10th of July. We will provide an update on the amount of funds raised in the first newsletter of next term when everything has been tallied.

A Fond Farewell to Mrs Thyer

This term, we say a very fond farewell to a truly valued member of our Sydney Campus community, Janette, whose dedication, and commitment to supporting students across MET and OneSchool Global has spanned much of her career.

Throughout her years of service, Janette has witnessed significant change and growth across the school. During this time, she has embraced a variety of support roles, always bringing with her a calming presence, unwavering consistency, and genuine care for every student she worked alongside. Her ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff has made a lasting impact on our campus community.

Janette's commitment to student wellbeing and learning has been evident in everything she has done. Whether supporting students directly, assisting colleagues, or helping families navigate challenges, she has always approached her work with compassion, professionalism, and a deep understanding of the needs of those around her. Generations of students have benefited from her encouragement, patience, and support.

Janette will be greatly missed by students, parents, and staff alike. As she embarks on this exciting new chapter, we acknowledge and sincerely thank her for the substantial contribution she has made to our school community over many years.

While we are sad to see her go, we are delighted that Janette will now have more opportunities to pursue her travels and enjoy precious time with her family. We look forward to hearing about her future adventures and the wonderful memories she will undoubtedly create.

Thank you, Janette, from all of us at OneSchool Global Sydney Campus. We wish you every happiness and success in the years ahead.

A few words from Janette.....

Goodbye,

It is with mixed emotions that I say goodbye to all the staff, students, and especially the community of OSG.

I will be retiring at the end of this term after 21 valued years at MET/OSG, to start a new phase of my life with my much-loved family, including my grandson, and a second arriving in September.

I have seen many changes throughout my time here. Back when I first commenced my MET/OSG journey at the Kellyville campus in July 2005, we were a humble school in its early foundation stages. Many years down the track, we moved to Oatlands in 2016 and began our sometimes challenging but mostly rewarding path to the great Sydney campus we are today.

I have had the absolute privilege of working with students across both the secondary and primary spaces and have accumulated an abundance of small moments of joy in both. I have also had the opportunity to work with and alongside the community and would like to extend my appreciation and gratitude for that opportunity. You are truly supportive and generous, and most welcoming to the staff here who care so deeply for your children’s education.

To all the students I have assisted in their learning journey, both past and present, it has been my greatest joy to watch you all grow into your own confident and capable selves. Thank you for all the laughs and hair-raising moments throughout the years, there has never been a dull day. I wish you the very best in all the challenges and successes that lie ahead of you. You will always form part of my fondest memories.

So long,

Mrs Janette Thyer

Wellbeing Wrap

Wellbeing Wrap: Rest, Recharge and Reconnect

Student wellbeing plays a vital role in learning, engagement, and overall development. As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting every student, this fortnightly wellbeing section will offer practical strategies and insights to help students thrive both at school and at home.

Making the Most of the School Holidays

As we reach the end of another busy term, the school holidays provide a valuable opportunity for students to rest, recharge, and spend quality time with family and friends. After weeks of learning, activities, and commitments, taking time to slow down is important for both physical and emotional wellbeing.

While holidays are a chance to relax, maintaining a few simple routines can help students feel their best. Consistent sleep patterns, regular physical activity, nutritious meals, and time away from screens all support wellbeing and make the return to school smoother.

The break is also an opportunity to enjoy simple experiences together. Whether it’s visiting a local park, reading a book, trying something creative, or sharing a family meal, these moments help strengthen relationships and create lasting memories.

As a school, we thank our students and families for their ongoing support throughout the term. We hope everyone enjoys a safe, restful break and returns refreshed and ready for the opportunities ahead next term.

Sometimes the best way to prepare for learning is to pause, recharge, and enjoy the moments that matter most.
