Update from the Campus Principal

Term 2 - Week 4

Regional Principal

Dear OneSchool Global Swan Hill Community,

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of spending time at the Swan Hill Campus on Monday and Tuesday, where I met with staff, students, and several parents. It was a valuable opportunity to connect with the community and see the positive work taking place.

I would like to inform you that Mrs Hogg (Campus Principal) is currently on leave.

To ensure strong continuity and ongoing stability across the campus, I have appointed Ms Gilmour as Acting Campus Principal during this period. This arrangement will commence on Monday 25 May and will remain in place until Mrs Hogg’s return.

Ms Gilmour will continue in her teaching role with her Year 5/6 class, while also stepping into the responsibilities of Acting Campus Principal. I am confident in her ability to balance these commitments and provide strong leadership for the campus. There will be times however where the Campus Principal role will require Ms Gilmour to make other suitable arrangements.

I know you will join me in wishing Ms Gilmour every success in this role. I am very confident that the Swan Hill Campus will continue to flourish under her leadership, supported by such a dedicated team and community.

Acting Campus Principal Report

Dear School Community,

As you have all now been made aware, I will be taking on the Acting Principal role while Gaby is on leave. I am looking forward to starting this role next week and am excited for the opportunity to support our school community.

While this is for an indefinite period, I am committed to continuing in my role as the 5/6 classroom teacher while maintaining the high standards of our school across both the primary and secondary areas.

I look forward to working closely with our students, staff, and families during this time and appreciate your ongoing support. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time.

Primary spotlight

Primary Report

This term, we have been busy exploring a range of engaging learning experiences. In Science, we conducted experiments to investigate reactions that produce gases. Our volcano experiment was a great success and clearly demonstrated how chemical reactions can create rapid gas release in an exciting way. We also attempted to create rainbow jars to explore the concept of liquid density; while this activity was more challenging and didn’t quite go to plan, it provided valuable learning opportunities about trial, error and scientific thinking.

We have begun designing and building boats. Students are excited to test their creations and discover whose boat can travel the quickest and the furthest.

We also enjoyed participating in Mission Nutrition Day, where students took part in fun activities and developed a deeper understanding of how to make healthy choices and what to look for to maintain a balanced diet.

We have had three weeks of ‘The Great Race.’ Easton was the big improver for Week 4! Well done Easton!

Next week we are going on our excursion to Sovereign Hill. More information will be sent out over Signal next week.

WEEK 3 - THE GREAT RACE

This week Primary students have done an amazing effort with their great race. A big WELL DONE and congratulations to Almanzo Perryman who is leading the race.

Primary students will be joining other campuses to take part in a Primary Excursion to Sovereign Hill.

A coach has been booked so there are multiple seats available for parents to attend.

Coach will depart SH Campus at 6am with a @ 6.45am pick up in KG.

Expected departure from Ballarat is 2pm and arrival to KG @5.15pm and 6pm in SH.

Students are asked to wear full sports uniform, warm jumper/jacket, water bottle as well as recess and lunch.

Year 12 Geography Excursion

Year 12 students Oliver Joyce & Ryder Chirnside attend the Year 12 Geography excursion at Fisherman's Bend. They join with other Year 12 Geography students across the state. They had a great time with their peers.

Year 12 Food Studies Excursion

Year 12 Food studies student Ryder Chirnside travelled to Melbourne this week to join other Food Studies students from across the state at William Angliss and Brunetti.

Thank you again to Mrs Ashley Chirnside who drove and attended both excursions. We really do appreciate your assistance.

Year 12 Food Studies Excursion Summary

The Year 12 Food Studies students enjoyed an immersive and hands‑on excursion in Melbourne on May 18th, beginning their day at William Angliss Institute. Students completed a short barista course where they learnt the craft of preparing a range of black coffees, including espresso, long black and macchiato. They then moved on to milk‑based beverages, practising techniques for frothing milk and creating cappuccinos, hot chocolates, and mochas.

In the afternoon, students visited Brunetti Classico in Carlton for a behind‑the‑scenes tour. They explored the history of the iconic Italian pasticceria, observed the operations taking place in the production areas, and of course enjoyed sampling a selection of Brunetti’s famous Italian treats.

The excursion offered students valuable industry insights, practical skill development, and a delicious taste of Melbourne’s hospitality scene.
