Update from the Campus Principal

FROM THE DESK OF MRS LITTLE

As we reach the end of another busy and rewarding term, I would like to congratulate our students and staff on a semester filled with achievement, growth and commitment to excellence.

One of the standout highlights of the term has been the extraordinary work of our Student Leadership Team. Through their dedication, organisation and determination to make a difference, they successfully reached their ambitious fundraising target of $100,000 for the Royal Children's Hospital. This is a remarkable achievement and reflects the generosity and community spirit of our students, families and staff. As recognition of this outstanding effort, selected Student Leadership Team members across Victorian campuses will have the opportunity to visit the Royal Children's Hospital next term to see firsthand the impact of their fundraising efforts.

A key focus at Melton Campus in 2026 is "Closing the Gap". Throughout this semester we have continued to strengthen our focus on student growth, achievement and accountability. As part of this work, we analysed Semester 2 examination data from 2025 alongside Semester 1 examination results from 2026. Students then participated in goal-setting activities during Homeroom, reflecting on their progress and identifying areas for improvement for the remainder of the year.

While not all assessment and reporting data has been fully consolidated, the early indicators are very promising. Initial analysis shows that English results improved across all year levels examined, with Year 8 improving by 3.0%, Year 9 by 3.6%, and Year 10 by 2.0%. We have also seen encouraging growth in Year 10 Mathematics, where average results increased from 58.5% to 60.8%, representing a 4.0% improvement. These gains suggest that our focus on targeted intervention, explicit teaching and student goal setting is having a positive impact on learning outcomes.

I will continue to analyse other subject achievement data as it becomes available at the conclusion of the reporting cycle and will share further insights with our campus community during Term 3.

Semester reports will be distributed to families tomorrow, and we look forward to partnering with families during our Parent-Teacher Interviews, which will be held early next term. These conversations provide a valuable opportunity to celebrate success, discuss progress and work together to support every student in reaching their full potential.

FROM MR FRANK VETERE - REGIONAL PRINCIPAL

Dear Students, Staff, and Families

As we reach the end of Term 2, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been a highly productive and positive term across our Victoria and Tasmania campuses. This also marks the end of my first full term as Regional Principal at OneSchool Global, a milestone that has given me valuable time to settle into the role, build connections, and gain a deeper understanding of our school community.

Over the past fortnight, I have acted as Campus Principal at our Nathalia Campus. I praise all students, staff and community for their welcome and support. It has been great seeing our L2L framework in action day after day.

During this last week we have had the privilege of a regional visit by Mr Paul Maher, Regional Director of Education and Ms Louise Goette, Regional Director of Student Support. They spent time at our Nathalia, Swan Hill and Bendigo Campuses. I was extremely proud of our campuses during these visits and I thank Mr Chris Sanders at Bendigo and Ms Annalie Gilmour at Swan Hill.

As mentioned many times, this term has enabled me to visit all our campuses. I have been struck by the consistency of our culture, the strength of relationships, and the clear focus on student learning. At every campus, I have felt genuinely welcomed, and I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting with staff, students, and members of the wider community. These visits continue to be a highlight of my role and reinforce the strong sense of purpose that exists across our region.

There have been many highlights throughout the term. I would like to acknowledge all students who have recently completed assessments and examinations. Your commitment to preparation and perseverance is commendable, and you should take great pride in your efforts. These moments mark important milestones in your learning journey.

This time of year, has also seen a strong focus on subject selection for 2027. I commend students for the thoughtful consideration they have given to their future pathways, supported by staff and families. These are important decisions that help shape the opportunities ahead. More broadly, I want to acknowledge the efforts of all campuses in maintaining such positive and productive environments. Across classroom learning, student leadership, co-curricular activities, and community engagement, there is much to celebrate. Our shared values and collective commitment continue to be a defining strength of OneSchool.

As we move into the holiday break, I am personally looking forward to taking some time to pause, take stock, and reflect with gratitude on what has been achieved this term. I encourage all members of our community to do the same to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends after a busy and productive period.

I look forward to welcoming everyone back in Term 3, refreshed and ready to continue building on the strong foundations already in place.

PRIMARY AWARDS

SPORTS AWARDS AND UPDATE

Our PE classes have been full of energy, teamwork, and friendly competition this term as students explored a variety of net and wall sports.

Primary students have been taking part in a Netball Intensive, developing their passing, footwork, shooting, and teamwork skills through a range of fun and engaging activities. It has been wonderful to see their confidence and game awareness grow each week.

Meanwhile, our senior students have enjoyed the opportunity to sample a diverse range of sports as part of our Net and Wall Unit, including volleyball, netball, basketball, soccer, tennis, pickleball, and floor hockey. These activities have challenged students to develop strategic thinking, communication, coordination, and resilience while learning new skills and supporting one another.

We are proud of the way students have embraced new challenges, stepped outside their comfort zones, and demonstrated excellent teamwork.

Primary spotlight

EXPLORING FOOD THROUGH OUR SENSES

Our Primary students explored how we use our five senses to understand food. They discovered that sight, smell, touch, sound and taste all help us experience and enjoy what we eat. Students also learned about safe food handling before working independently or with a partner to design a colourful, healthy fruit snack plate. It was wonderful to see their creativity, teamwork and growing understanding of making healthy food choices!

EXPLORING THE COORONG THROUGH WRITING

Our Year 3/4 students have been developing their informational writing skills by learning about the unique location of the Coorong. Throughout the unit, they explored the key features of an informational text, including identifying keywords, selecting important facts, and organising information under clear and appropriate subheadings. Students used these skills to create their own informative pieces, demonstrating their growing confidence as writers. Well done to all our Year 3/4 students on your fantastic effort and commitment to learning!

PRIMARY MATHEMATICS - POTATO OLYMPICS

During Mathematics this week, students enthusiastically participated in The Potato Olympics, a fun and engaging activity that allowed them to revise a variety of mathematical concepts covered throughout the term. Students began by creating their own unique potato characters before taking part in a range of Math's challenges and problem-solving tasks. Through these activities, students applied their knowledge, practised key skills, and worked collaboratively while enjoying some friendly competition. The Potato Olympics was a wonderful way to celebrate learning, reinforce important concepts, and make Mathematics both meaningful and a fun way to end the term.

SLT SPOTLIGHT

Wellbeing 

From Monday the 22nd to Thursday the 25th, the school took part in Wellbeing Week. Monday was Movement Monday, were we did 60 second movement bursts to ensure students were taking short breaks throughout the day and helping them to keep active.

Teamwork Tuesday saw the year 12's playing futsal against the teachers, with a suspicious teacher victory.

On Wellbeing Wednesday, the girls did GoNoodle in the gym, while the boys played footy outside with the visiting Bendigo SLT.
And finally, Thirsty Thursday ensured students stayed hydrated, through provision of hydrolytes. We thank all the students for their involvement, and we looked forward to continuing this tradition in upcoming years.

L2L - INTER-HOUSE DEBATING COMPETITION

The countdown is on… Inter-Campus House Debating Competition has arrived!

Throughout Term 3, in Thursday Homerooms, students from Years 5–10 will go head-to-head in an exciting showdown of ideas, teamwork, and persuasive speaking. The challenge is simple: represent your House, out-argue the opposition, and earn valuable House Points!

The teams are house orientated, so if you are wanting to participate or are selected to speak, please speak to your house captains. Judging will be by Mr Sharma and along with a few other teacher, as well as 3 senior students from the opposing house colour.

Every debate is a chance to sharpen your communication skills, build resilience, and develop leadership while having an incredible time with your teammates. House points are up for grabs, so please take this seriously. Bring your energy, your passion, and your determination, because every voice has the power.

Communications - Primary Basketball

The primary completed their house basketball tournament on Wednesday, with yellow and red versing for the final victory. Well done to all who participated throughout the tournament and a special congratulations to both houses, who tied 6 to 6!

YEAR 9/10 ART - Still Life

The Still Life Assignment invited students to slow down, look closer, and discover the extraordinary hidden in the ordinary through the timeless tradition of Still Life. Students experimented with a range of materials, techniques, and compositional strategies to create still life artworks that reveal personal meanings and challenge conventional ways of seeing.

Below is a range of final artworks produced by students throughout Semester 1.

YEAR 7 Food Tech

This muffin making term has been fun in Food Technology, because although we only made muffins, they all were very different and used very different techniques. The use of different ingredients was very interesting, from egg and bacon muffins to our final piece. We enjoyed choosing our own flavours and recipes and experimenting with new techniques.
The muffins were a mix of different textures and flavours, from gooey pistachio cream to the mushiness of apple and cinnamon. There were definitely some challenges along the way that were hard, like we had to make sure we were using the correct measurement of each ingredient to ensure a beautiful sweet or savory muffin.
Over the term we collected every muffin we cooked then we put them in the freezer and left them there. This morning we presented the muffins we made and served them to the staff. I loved experimenting with the plating and then presenting them at the morning tea. It was also fun tasting other people's muffins and exploring different types of flavours. We had help from some of the Year 12s as well. The teachers loved it. Overall I really enjoyed the day. - Year 7 Reflection

YEAR 10 ENGLISH

During year 10 English the students have been creating media for their 'Speculative Fiction' Assessment. The work created was amazing and the teachers were super impressed!

THANKYOU - Denise Earl

This week we say Thankyou to Denise Earl who has volunteered so much of her time to the library at OSG. We are truly grateful for the work Denise has done with all the books on campus, the many hours of organising, covering and storing. We hope to still see you around the Melton campus and appreciate all you have done for us.

WELCOME - Spandana Surapaneni

Hi,

I am Spandana Surapaneni, excited to be a part of the school community, teaching Year 9 Commerce and Economics, as well as VCE Accounting. With a master's degree in finance and over 10 plus years of teaching experience, I have had the privilege of teaching Economics and Business Management across multiple curriculums, including IB, AS/A levels, and VCE.

Before moving to Australia, I had the opportunity to teach in UAE for almost 5 years, based in Dubai. Working in diverse international settings has enriched my teaching practice for helping students become critical thinkers and Inquirers.

Economics has always been a subject close to my heart because it helps explain how the world works. What fascinates me most is to try predicting changes in the economy influencing our everyday lives and choices.

Outside the classroom, I enjoy activities that challenge both my mind and focus. I love playing chess, as it sharpens strategic thinking skills. I also love practicing Yoga in my daily life and a keen cricket enthusiast and enjoy watching the sport whenever I can.

I strongly believe in lifelong learning and personal growth. I am currently looking forward to exploring new hobbies, including pottery.

Above all, I am passionate about encouraging meaningful conversations and helping students connect classroom learning to real world with local and global context.

Hello,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Rebecca Parr, and I have recently joined the Melton Campus as a Campus Student Support Assistant.

Previously, I held the same position with the wonderful team at Maitland Campus before relocating to Melbourne. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary).

Originally from the Northern Territory, I am adjusting to the colder climate, but I enjoy camping, fishing, coaching netball, watching Geelong win games, and spending time with my family.
