Highly Commended Learning Support Team Award

Congratulations to our Melton Campus Student Support Team for receiving a Highly Commended award in the 2026 Australian Teacher Aide Team of the Year Awards . This recognition celebrates the team's outstanding commitment to inclusive education, student wellbeing, and learning intervention. We are incredibly proud of their dedication and the positive impact they make on the lives of our students every day.

Tutorial Tuesday

As part of our Learning to Learn (L2L) framework, students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning by regularly booking and attending tutorials. With students spending significant time in study periods, tutorials provide valuable opportunities to seek support, clarify understanding, and strengthen academic performance.

To encourage this important habit, the Student Leadership Team (SLT) has launched Tutorial Tuesday . During Tuesday Homeroom sessions, students are encouraged to review their learning needs and book tutorials through the Canvas tutorial booking area. Students who book a tutorial each week are entered into a prize draw to recognise their initiative and commitment to learning.

The impact of tutorials can already be seen across the campus, with some Melton teachers having facilitated more than 160 tutorial bookings individually this semester . This highlights both the commitment of our staff to supporting students and the value of students actively engaging with the tutorial program.

We encourage all students to take advantage of the support available and make tutorials a regular part of their learning routine.

MAP Testing

Next week, we will begin our second round of MAP Testing for the year. In preparation, students have reviewed their previous results and set individual goals for the upcoming assessment period.

We were pleased to see many students achieve growth in their MAP results compared to 2025, reflecting their hard work and commitment to learning. MAP Testing provides valuable insight into student progress and helps us identify areas of strength and opportunities for further development.

To support student improvement in MAP testing, our students have the opportunity to log into the IXL program. So far many of our campus students have been focusing on their math's skills. The latest IXL data for completion rates at Melton is evident below.

We look forward to seeing students build on their success and achieve continued growth in this next round of testing.

AI Literacy at OneSchool

Students in Years 7-12 are currently participating in the AI Literacy Course, helping them develop an understanding of what AI is, how it is used in everyday life, and its benefits and limitations.

A key focus of the course is understanding that AI is a tool to support learning , not a substitute for thinking. We want our students to be critical thinkers who can use AI responsibly to enhance their learning while still demonstrating their own understanding, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

At OneSchool, academic integrity remains a priority. Student submissions are carefully monitored, and students are taught the importance of using AI ethically, ensuring that their work reflects their own learning and achievement.

A Vibrant Campus Culture

One of the clearest signs of a strong campus culture is a campus full of life, with students actively engaged in learning, activities, and healthy competition throughout the day.

The inaugural SLT Soccer Cup has been a highlight of the term, with students eagerly participating and supporting their peers. The energy and excitement at lunchtime have been palpable as teams compete for the title. Last Thursday, the competition paused as the gym was transformed for a mass Chess Competition . Organised by our resident chess enthusiast, Miss Surapaneni , the event brought together students from Years 3-12 in a fantastic display of strategy, concentration, and friendly competition.

Students have also been involved in the House Debating Competition during Homeroom, developing their ability to communicate ideas, navigate differing viewpoints, and engage in respectful discussion. Across our classrooms, engaging learning experiences continue to bring learning to life. Year 11 Legal Studies students have been participating in mock court trials with Ms Galvin, Science students have been creating impressive visual cell representations, and Year 7 students have demonstrated outstanding creativity through the design and creation of their own board games. One standout project was an OSG Melton Special Edition board game designed by Willow Williams and Skyla Earle , which cleverly captured life at the Melton Campus.

Term 3 can often feel long, with colder weather and the inevitable rise in student illness. However, these opportunities for involvement, creativity, competition, and connection have helped lift the spirit and energy across the Melton Campus. Thank you to our students for embracing the many opportunities available to them and for contributing so positively to the vibrant culture that makes Melton such a special place to learn and grow.

Dear Parents, Students and Members of the OneSchool Global Community,

As we move through another busy and productive term, I would like to take the opportunity to share some updates from across our Victoria and Tasmania Region.

Last week, I attended the OneSchool Global Regional Heads of Department Conference in Sydney. It was a valuable opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from across our AU Region and to learn from the outstanding work taking place in our schools. I was particularly impressed by the high calibre of planning, leadership and strategic thinking demonstrated by our Heads of Department as they continue to focus on delivering exceptional outcomes for students.

One of the key areas of discussion was the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education. AI presents exciting opportunities to enhance learning, develop future-ready skills and support student achievement. As technology continues to evolve, we remain committed to ensuring our students are equipped to use these tools responsibly, ethically and effectively as they prepare for success beyond the classroom and the workplace.

Over the past fortnight, I have had the pleasure of visiting our campuses at Berwick, Melton, Nathalia, Swan Hill and Bendigo. These visits continue to provide valuable opportunities to meet with students and staff, observe learning in action and celebrate the many successes occurring across our region. Every visit reinforces the strength of our school community and the shared commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences for our students.

A particular highlight was spending time at Nathalia and working alongside Mr James Mason, who commenced as Campus Principal on Monday 10 August. Mr Mason has made an excellent start to his role, and it has been wonderful to see him already building positive relationships with students, staff and families. We warmly welcome James to the OneSchool Global community and look forward to his leadership at Nathalia.

It has also been a pleasure to meet with our newly established Campus Support Teams (CSTs) across the region. I have been genuinely impressed by the high level of commitment, enthusiasm and professionalism shown by each team. These groups play an important role in supporting our campuses, strengthening collaboration and helping to ensure that students and staff continue to receive the support they need to thrive. Thank you to all members who have committed their time and expertise to this important initiative.

A further highlight has been seeing the continued success of the weekly intra-campus travel program in Tasmania. Our students have seamlessly embraced the opportunity to travel between campuses each week, demonstrating remarkable flexibility, maturity and commitment to their learning. It has been encouraging to hear how students are building new relationships, collaborating with peers from other campuses and making the most of the expanded learning opportunities available to them. The positive attitude shown by our Tasmanian students has been outstanding, and they should be commended for the way they have embraced this initiative and the benefits it brings to their educational experience.

I am also pleased to share that we are very close to appointing our new Sub-Regional Director of Student Support for the Victoria and Tasmania region. This is an important role that will further strengthen the support available to our students, staff and campuses. We look forward to making an announcement in the near future and welcoming another experienced leader to our regional team.

Looking ahead, next week I will be joining members of the Victorian SLT at the Royal Children's Hospital to present our fundraising cheque for $100,000. This remarkable achievement reflects the generosity, compassion and community spirit of our students, families and staff across the region. We are incredibly proud of what has been accomplished together and grateful for the opportunity to support the important work undertaken by the Royal Children's Hospital.

As we continue through the term, I would also like to acknowledge the many students and families who consistently support and uphold our uniform expectations each day. Thank you for taking pride in presenting yourselves in accordance with our uniform policy. A well-presented uniform promotes a sense of belonging, pride and professionalism and reflects positively on our school community. For those who may not yet be meeting these expectations consistently, I kindly ask for your support in ensuring that all students attend school in the correct uniform each day. Working together in this area helps us maintain the high standards that are a valued part of the OneSchool Global culture.

Term 3 of the House cup has started with some very close competition with all teams having a win in WOW. Best and Fairest for the first 3 weeks have Yellow and Green sharing the lead with Red just 5 points behind. There is a long way to go in the house competition and lots of opportunities for all students to earn some valuable points. Results from Term 2 are shown below-

In Science, students have been exploring the fascinating life cycle of bees and learning about the important role these insects play in our environment. Through hands-on activities, discussions and creative projects, students investigated the stages of bee development from egg to adult, discovered how bees pollinate plants, and developed an understanding of why bees and other fascinating creatures are essential for healthy ecosystems and food production.

In English, students have been exploring the novel Black Cockatoo and developing their comprehension skills through thoughtful discussions and written responses. They have analysed characters, explored themes such as culture, loss and identity, and used evidence from the text to support their thinking. Students have demonstrated a growing ability to explain their ideas in detail and make meaningful connections between the events in the story and the characters' experiences

Alongside their novel study, students have been building their writing skills through sentence expansion activities. They have learned how to take simple sentences and add important details about who, what, when, where, why and how to create more engaging and descriptive writing. Students have also practised using prepositions correctly to improve the clarity and accuracy of their sentences.

A strong focus has also been placed on bookwork and presentation. Students have been encouraged to take pride in their work by using neat handwriting, accurate spelling, correct punctuation and careful page organisation. Developing good bookwork habits helps students communicate their ideas clearly and supports them in becoming more confident and successful writers. It has been wonderful to see students striving to produce work of a high standard and showing increasing attention to detail in their English books.

Debating - Weeks 2 & 3

The second and third weeks of the debating competition have now been completed, with Yellow winning round 2 and Green winning round 3. Congratulations to both teams and all who participated! We look forward to the Year 7/8 rounds beginning this week , with Red v Yellow , debating if Gen-Z language should be banned at schools .

SLT CHALLENGE CUP - FIFA Competition

The FIFA competition is off to a great start, with many students competing for the ultimate victory. The first two rounds of the group stage have been completed, with the third and final round coming up, before we move to the knock-out stage. Congratulations for games already completed, and we look forward to seeing the rest of the group stage games!

OSG Melton House Chess Competition 2026

The chess competition commenced on Wednesday the 12th of August, with the first round already completed. Congratulations to the winners! We look forward to seeing the results of the coming few weeks.

Melton celebrated Croc's n Socks day on Tuesday the 11th of August, with the year 8's providing a sausage sizzle. It was an awesome day enjoyed by all. Well done to the year 8's and SLT for a job well done! Special thanks to Kelvin Hornsey and Keven Grace for your help cooking the BBQ!

NEW SLT INITIATIVE: Tutorial Treats

As part of our Learning to Learn (L2L) focus at the Melton Campus, we are placing a strong emphasis on students making the most of tutorial opportunities. To encourage participation, the Student Leadership Team is excited to introduce Tutorial Treats.

Every time a student books and attends a tutorial, their name will be entered into a prize draw. At each fortnightly SLT Assembly, two winners will be drawn, one from Years 7-9 and one from Years 10-12, with each winner receiving a prize. Primary students nominated by their classroom teachers will also be entered into the prize draw.

The more tutorials a student attends, the more entries they will receive, increasing their chances of winning. Tutorials are a valuable way to seek clarification, strengthen understanding, build confidence, and stay on top of learning. We hope this initiative provides an extra incentive for students to take advantage of the support available and further develop their learning habits.

NEW SLT INITIATIVE- 'Through the Lens'- Photography Competition

Throughout this term, we will be running our "Through the Lens" Photography Competition, giving students the opportunity to showcase their creativity and photographic talent.

A submission link will be provided for students to enter their photographs. Entries can be from any genre and do not need to be school-related. Students are welcome to submit photographs taken recently or in previous years. All entries must be authentic and appropriate, as selected photographs will be shared with our wider school community.

The competition winner and runner-up will receive House Points and a prize, with further details to be announced soon.

To give students plenty of time to capture and select their best work, entries will close in Week 7 on Friday 4 September. A selection of the best photographs will also be featured in a special booklet for parents and the wider community to enjoy.

We look forward to seeing the creativity, talent, and unique perspectives of our students through the lens.

Father's Day Celebration

We warmly invite all dads and special father figures to join us on Friday 4 September for our Campus Father's Day Celebration. This special event provides an opportunity for our campus community to come together and recognise the important role that fathers and father figures play in the lives of our students.

Breakfast will be provided, and a coffee van will be available for guests to enjoy. An SLT Assembly will be held during breakfast, allowing visitors to connect with the campus and celebrate alongside our students. The morning will conclude with a friendly Dads vs Year 12 Volleyball Match during Homeroom.

We look forward to welcoming our Fathers for what promises to be an enjoyable and memorable morning.

Tuesday 4th August was the Australian Maths Competition.

All Year 10 students competed as well as 10 representatives from secondary and 9 representatives from primary.

It was great to see the students challenge themselves by volunteering for this competition. It's a wonderful opportunity to extend their Maths horizons.

STUDENT FOCUS

Shiloh Williams is a high achieving student in General Mathematics, having received a perfect score on her recent Mathematics SAC. Shiloh uses the L2L framework to guide her study time. She completes course work on time during her study sessions and then allows a week to prepare for her SAC, this includes time in the lesson and study. Shiloh will also make use of the tutorial system when there are problems that she may need advice on how to tackle. Shiloh’s strategy for learning Mathematics may work other students, so be organized and book a tutorial to help with areas of Mathematics that may be giving you some grief.

LEGAL STUDIES

Our Year 11 Legal Studies students recently brought the courtroom to life by participating in mock trials as part of their study of the Victorian legal system.

Taking on the roles of judges, lawyers, witnesses and jurors, students prepared and presented cases involving defamation and negligence, examined evidence, questioned witnesses and developed legal arguments before reaching a verdict.

The mock trials provided students with an opportunity to move beyond the textbook and apply their knowledge of civil law, courtroom procedures, evidence and the roles of key participants in a realistic and engaging setting.

AFL PROGRAM-

Term 3 is Invasion games in PE and students have been working on their AFL skills. Over the last 3 weeks the boys have been applying their skills in games. Girls have started their footy program and will be getting into games over the next few weeks.

MUSIC TEACHER

Daniel lives on a small property surrounded by a lively collection of animals, including two goats, four sheep, 15 chickens, two dogs and a pet snake. Life at home is rarely quiet, but music is an equally important part of his life.

Outside of teaching, Daniel is a keen musician and plays guitar in a Michael Jackson tribute show, performing some of the iconic music that has influenced generations of musicians. He is also an enthusiastic collector of musical instruments and enjoys discovering, playing and learning about instruments from different styles, cultures and periods.

CHANGES TO STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM IN 2027

We are pleased to share with parents and families, the launch of OSG's Experience the Joy of Teaching campaign, which aims to tell the OSG story and attract great teachers to our campuses across the globe.

The campaign features a television commercial style film that was filmed at our Sydney campus in the April school holidays.

The Experience the Joy of Teaching theme was inspired directly by feedback from OSG teachers, many of whom say that joining OneSchool Global helped them reconnect with what inspired them to become teachers in the first place: focusing on teaching and learning and helping students thrive.

The campaign will be used internationally across digital, social media and other advertising channels to introduce prospective teachers to the opportunities available at OneSchool Global.

More than a recruitment campaign, it is a celebration of the students, families and staff that make OSG such a special place to learn and teach.

The film has been tailored to each region with French, Argentinian-Spanish and German language versions, as well as Australian, New Zealand, British and North American voiceovers. You can view the various international versions of the film here.
