AI Day for Students

Last Friday, students spent time learning about how AI works and how it supports our lives. They explored both the benefits and potential pitfalls of AI, including the ways bias can influence its outputs. Students also discussed how AI is impacting and being used in everyday life. It was a valuable program that helped reinforce and extend their existing knowledge. The day was topped off with hot chips for lunch.

MAP Testing This Week

This week, students will be undertaking MAP Testing. The purpose of these assessments is to measure student growth over time. MAP is an adaptive assessment that adjusts to each student's responses, providing a personalised measure of achievement in literacy and numeracy.

Students will complete assessments in Reading, Numeracy, and Language Conventions (spelling and grammar). We look forward to seeing the growth students have made since the previous testing period.

Primary Beechworth Excursion

On Friday 28 August, primary students will be travelling to Beechworth. Students will visit Beechworth Honey School to learn about the vital role bees play in our environment and the honey-making process through hands-on science activities.

They will also explore the history of the Gold Rush, including gold panning and the experiences of First Nations peoples, Chinese migrants, and European settlers. Through these experiences, students will reflect on culture, identity, and respect.

Planning

We currently have a renewed focus on student planning and organisation. Students are encouraged to use their morning Academic Care time to plan their week and prioritise their learning tasks. Through Canvas, students can check due dates, monitor their progress, and identify the steps needed to be successful.

We encourage parents to regularly check in with their child to discuss upcoming assessment tasks and ensure work is being submitted on time.

Year 12 Trial Exams

Our Year 12 students are currently sitting their HSC Trial Examinations. This marks an important milestone in their schooling journey as they prepare for their final HSC exams later this year.

The trial examinations provide students with valuable practice in exam conditions and an opportunity to receive feedback from their teachers on areas they can continue to refine before the HSC examinations early next term.

Book Week

Next week is an exciting week in the Primary calendar as we celebrate the wonderful world of books. This year's theme is Book an Adventure.

Throughout the week, students will participate in a variety of activities designed to foster a love of reading and literature. Our Book Week dress-up day will be held on Wednesday 26 August, and we look forward to seeing the creativity and enthusiasm of our students as they bring their favourite book characters to life

We are please to announce the revival of an old award that used to be given at the ROE, the Walk Like You Want To Be Here award. However we have decided to hand out this award weekly at assembly.

The award is given to those who embody the student personas, uphold the values and the ethos, and simply carry that positive, enthusiastic energy of 'walking like they want to be here'.

Only one award will be given each week across the whole school, making it all the more impressive.

Year 7 students have launched into their new Robotics unit with enthusiasm and creativity, exploring the fascinating world of robots and how they work.

Students began by learning that a robot is much more than a collection of wires, motors, and metal parts. Robots are intelligent machines that can be programmed to move, sense their surroundings, follow instructions, and perform a variety of tasks. From helping people in everyday life to exploring distant planets, robots play an increasingly important role in our world.

To kick off the unit, students were challenged to work collaboratively to construct their very own BaseBot. Teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills were put to the test as students carefully followed instructions, assembled components, and helped one another overcome construction challenges.

The classroom was buzzing with excitement as groups celebrated each milestone and watched their robots begin to take shape. Building the BaseBot provided students with a hands-on introduction to engineering and robotics while developing valuable skills in design thinking, perseverance, and collaboration.

This is just the beginning of their robotics adventure. Over the coming weeks, students will learn how to program their BaseBots, use sensors to interact with their environment, and tackle a range of exciting robotic challenges.

We look forward to seeing the innovative solutions and creative thinking our future engineers and programmers will bring to life throughout the term!

Students have embarked on an exciting new learning challenge with the Smart Vertical Garden Project, combining sustainability, technology, and innovative design to create a modern food-growing solution.

This hands-on assignment gives students the opportunity to design, build, and monitor their own vertical gardens. Working like real-world agricultural engineers, urban farmers, and environmental scientists, students are developing sustainable systems that can grow fresh produce while using minimal space and resources.

Throughout the project, students are learning how technology can be used to address real-world challenges in food production and environmental sustainability. Their gardens will incorporate digital technologies such as Micro bit sensors, automated watering systems, and data collection tools that allow them to monitor plant health and growing conditions in real time.

The project encourages students to apply a range of valuable skills, including design thinking, engineering, problem-solving, and environmental responsibility. As they construct their gardens, students will investigate how factors such as water, light, temperature, and soil conditions influence plant growth, while exploring ways to make their systems more efficient and sustainable.

The classroom has been buzzing with creativity as students begin planning their designs and testing ideas. By combining traditional gardening practices with cutting-edge technology, they are gaining a deeper understanding of how innovation can help create more sustainable food systems for the future.

We look forward to watching their vertical gardens flourish and seeing the creative solutions they develop as they become the next generation of sustainability leaders, engineers, and technology innovators.

Another busy week in the Food Technology Room as Yr 7's whipped up apple pies and kangaroo pies, Yr 8 made delicious looking Thai Salmon Bento boxes, and Yr 9s made Korean Sticky Chicken bowls and experimented with different techniques in photographing food.

We are pleased to share with parents and families, the launch of OSG's Experience the Joy of Teaching campaign, which aims to tell the OSG story and attract great teachers to our campuses across the globe.

The campaign features a television commercial style film that was filmed at our Sydney campus in the April school holidays.

The Experience the Joy of Teaching theme was inspired directly by feedback from OSG teachers, many of whom say that joining OneSchool Global helped them reconnect with what inspired them to become teachers in the first place: focusing on teaching and learning and helping students thrive.

The campaign will be used internationally across digital, social media and other advertising channels to introduce prospective teachers to the opportunities available at OneSchool Global.

More than a recruitment campaign, it is a celebration of the students, families and staff that make OSG such a special place to learn and teach.

The film has been tailored to each region with French, Argentinian-Spanish and German language versions, as well as Australian, New Zealand, British and North American voiceovers. You can view the various international versions of the film here.
