Update from the Campus Principal

Dear Illawarra Community,

Principal’s Fortnightly Update

It has been a productive fortnight across the campus, with strong student engagement, positive community feedback, and a number of high-quality learning experiences.

Our Year 7 and 10 Immunisation Clinic ran smoothly, with visiting nurses commending our students for their respectful and cooperative behaviour. This is an excellent reflection of our campus expectations.

Senior students in the OSG Accelerate program were recognised with a BBQ, presentation, and bush walk to Maddens Falls. This was a valuable opportunity to acknowledge their commitment and progress. Thank you to staff and the Campus Administration and Board team for supporting the day.

Year 10 students also completed the Driver Awareness course this week, gaining important safety knowledge as they prepare for their learner driver stage.

Across Primary, OSG Aware lessons have commenced during scheduled PDH sessions. Thank you to our Campus Administrators and Campus Board members for their involvement and visible community support.

Mission Nutrition (Global Initiative)
We were pleased to see strong engagement in Mission Nutrition on 22 May, alongside all OneSchool Global campuses. This initiative connects students to practical, age-appropriate learning around nutrition, wellbeing, and everyday choices. Thank you to the additional parent volunteers who supported by opening the canteen, this significantly strengthened the experience for students and contributed to the success of the day.

Community Engagement
A highlight over the past fortnight has been the third round of community visits with Mr Kentzopolous and I meeting with family businesses in the Camden and Smeaton Grange area. These visits provide valuable insight into the work of our parent community and strengthen partnerships, particularly with fathers, and campus leadership.

It has also been encouraging to reconnect with past students now active in the workforce. These interactions are helping shape our understanding of how best to prepare students to be life-ready beyond school. Thank you to those who hosted us, we look forward to continuing these visits in the Picton area later in the year.

We also acknowledge a staffing transition, as we farewell Mrs Kirsten Lardner who is commencing maternity leave. We thank her for her contribution and wish her and her new family all the very best.

Class Arrangements (remainder of the year):

Year 11 Modern History – Mrs Sarah Regan

Year 9 Geography – Miss Georgie Pickles

Year 10 Geography – Mrs Sarah Regan

Stage 5 History Elective – Miss Georgie Pickles

Stage 5 PDHPE – Miss Georgie Pickles

All timetables will be updated on 22 May, and there will be some changes to other students' schedules to support these and other staffing changes across NSW. Please contact your child’s teacher or homeroom if there are any transition concerns. Miss Pickles will also assume responsibility for the Year 10 Homeroom for the remainder of 2026.

Campus Environment Update (Flies)
We are currently experiencing increased fly activity due to unusual seasonal conditions. We are working with the Campus Board and pest control providers, alongside increasing cleaning frequency and adding additional sanitisation stations.

We ask for student support in:

Not overfilling bins

Not leaving food unattended

Avoiding food inside buildings (sealed lunchboxes are acceptable)

Families with significant concerns are encouraged to contact Campus Administration. We expect improvement as weather conditions cool, and thank staff and students for their patience during this time.

Year 3 | Update

Year 3 have started Term 2 off with a bang!

We were very excited to go shopping at our very first Book Fair at OSG, as well as participating in an incursion via Zoom during History Week.

In Science, we have had a lot of fun conducting experiments on 'Matter'- with many more to come! We have had some amazing music lessons with Mr Benn, and have loved getting outside for some Maths lessons!

Primary | Mini History Museum Challenge

During History Week, Primary students had the opportunity to participate in a Mini History Museum Challenge. This was a non-compulsory activity that students could choose to complete at home or during their study sessions.

The challenge was to create a mini museum that teaches visitors about an important part of Australian history. Each museum included artefacts, museum labels and information panels.

Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the challenge, you have done exceptional work!

Stage 3 | Science

Stage 3 students recently completed an Oobleck science experiment.

Oobleck is a sensory science experiment made by mixing cornstarch and water. The substance acts like a liquid when you pour it and move it slowly, but acts like a substance when you squeeze, punch or step on it. It is named after a green, gooey substance in a Dr Seuss book.

Student Transport | Precious Cargo

Last term, OneSchool Global launched Precious Cargo, a new global safety campaign for all volunteer bus drivers. The campaign includes a powerful safety film that highlights the responsibility our drivers carry every day and reinforces key expectations around seatbelts, fatigue, distractions, speed, and substances.

Our drivers play a vital role in keeping students safe, and this campaign supports them with clear, consistent safety standards across all 20 countries in our network.

Families are welcome to view the film here:

*Please note, aspects of this film may be confronting.

For our students, please remember the important role that you play as a passenger on our buses.

Here are a few simple ways you can make a real difference:

- Wear your seatbelt properly every time you’re on the bus
- Stay seated while the bus is moving
- Keep noise at a reasonable level so your driver can concentrate
- Avoid distracting the driver – their focus keeps everyone safe
- Look out for each other when getting on and off the bus
