Pathway 2 (Years 5 & 6): A Term of Focus and Growth

Students in Pathway 2 (Years 5 and 6) have been working incredibly hard this term, and it has been fantastic to see their commitment, focus, and enthusiasm across all learning areas.

In English, students have been developing their persuasive writing skills, learning how to construct strong arguments and support their opinions with evidence. They have also been actively engaged in a novel study, exploring characters, themes, and language features while strengthening comprehension and discussion skills.

Through cross-curricular learning, students expanded their understanding of the wider world by learning about global perspectives, our school as part of a global community, and how parliament works. These learning experiences encouraged thoughtful discussion and helped students make meaningful real‑world connections.

In Mathematics, students have been busy collecting and analysing data, building their understanding of place value, fractions, and decimals, and developing skills with units of measurement. They also explored and represented 3D shapes, using hands‑on activities to strengthen spatial reasoning and problem‑solving skills.

In Technology, students have been developing confidence using computers and learning key coding skills, showing creativity, persistence, and strong collaboration. Choir has also been a highlight, with students working together to build confidence, teamwork, and musical skills.

Alongside their curriculum learning, students have been developing important organisational and self‑direction skills during study sessions, learning to manage their time, set goals, and take increasing responsibility for their learning.

This term has also included several exciting whole‑school events. Students thoroughly enjoyed participating in the sports carnival, where they demonstrated teamwork, resilience, and school spirit. International Food Day was another highlight, celebrating cultural diversity and giving students the opportunity to learn about and enjoy foods from around the world. As a reward for their hard work and positive behaviour, students also embraced the challenge of an escape room experience, applying collaboration, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills in a fun and engaging way.

Overall, Pathway 2 students should be extremely proud of their efforts this term, and we are very pleased with the positive attitude, enthusiasm, and dedication they continue to bring to their learning.PRIMARY PE

1500m

It was very disappointing not to have this endurance event included in the program this year, however, we ran it on campus with medals for the junior, senior, girls and boys winners. Students had been training and we wanted to ensure their efforts weren't in vain.

We had 19 students participate in this challenging event which is super impressive!

It's not easy and is both physically and mentally challenging, and I am so proud of all participants.

The 5 primary students present all completed a 300m lap of the track also and joined in the fun.

ATHLETICS 2026

We made the long journey up to Swan Hill to participate in this prestigious annual event.

We settled into the grass track and endured extremely strong winds and cool morning conditions. However, the students never let this effect their attitude and they tried hard, supported team mates and one another all day.

As a consequence, we got some impressive results!

Swan Hill created a new award this year that they called the Sportsmanship Award and the criteria are as follows:

This award is for a student at each campus that has displayed the qualities of sportsmanship. It aligns with our school values and thus supports all that we do at OSG.

Respect for Rules and Officials: Abiding by the rules of the events and accepting the decisions of officials/judges without arguing.

Respect for Opponents: Treating other students with dignity, avoiding taunting or "trash talk," and offering encouragement and cheers for other success.

Grace in Victory and Defeat: Winning without boasting or "rubbing it in" and losing without making excuses, blaming others, or throwing tantrums.

Supportiveness and Teamwork: Teamwork: Encouraging others, fostering a positive attitude throughout the day

Integrity and Fair Play: Competing honestly, refusing to cheat, and maintaining high ethical standards.

Self-Control: Managing emotions, staying focused on the events, and avoiding angry outbursts or aggressive behaviour.

Resilience and Perspective: Participating in all events to the best of their ability, not giving up

Inclusivity: Respecting all participants, including opposing schools and students of different skill levels

This award identifies students who may not have the greatest athletic abilities but is someone who will always show up with a positive attitude and give it a go.

Our campus award winner is Ruby Urquhart, who worked hard and had a positive attitude towards getting points for her house in every event. Well done, Ruby!

A huge thank you to staff and families for your support, transport and help at the event. From feedback, a great day was had by all and it's always fun to get to know staff and students from other campuses and see your zoom buddies. Well done team Hamilton!
