Update from the Campus Principal

What a lovely two weeks we have had here at OSGGC.

The autumn cool air is bringing a lovely freshness to the campus. It has been a rather quiet two weeks so that the students can get themselves back in to the swing of school life after a long three-week break.

Events

OSG Aware – Years 7, 9 and 11 students from all over Australia participated in OSG Aware on Thursday.

This program is designed to educate the students on child protection and how to protect themselves to create healthy relationships. Illawarra came to us this time and next term we will do the second workshop at Illawarra Campus.

It was a great day and the students are commended on how well they participated throughout the day.

School Photos were conducted this week on a chilly morning. Well done to all the students and thank you to all the families for ensuring the uniform was clean and tidy. The students presented well.

Mother’s Day Morning Tea – Thank you to all who were able to attend on Friday for the Morning Tea. Best wishes to everyone recognising Mother’s Day.

May it be a day of reflection, gratitude, and gentle moments.

Upcoming Events

Mission Nutrition on Friday, May 22.

This is a Global initiative that every Campus in the world will be participating in. There will be a series of workshops throughout the day that the teachers will run for the students.

It will be a great day and we are all looking forward to it.

Updates

Uniform: Uniform has been very well represented this term. The uniform is so great when worn well. The area of focus for the students as a collective is ensuring shoes are polished each evening. There will be uniform inspections for the coming few weeks with a merit being offered for perfect uniform.

Bullying: Just a reminder to all parents, students and stakeholders that OSG has a zero tolerance for bullying or bullying behaviour. Bullying is deliberate, hurtful, repeated, targeted (at an individual or small group). Bullying can take place in several forms: Physical, verbal, indirect or emotional, online and face to face.

If you feel as though your child or you see bullying happening, please let a staff member know straight away. If we are all upstanders rather than bystanders, we can stamp our bullying completely.

Litter: Litter is at an all time low at OSGGC.

Special thank you to Brad for ensuring that we have a very clean and tidy school. Students have also played their part in ensuring that litter is put in the bin rather than left to fly around the grounds. Thank you for keeping our school so clean and tidy.

Mobile Phones: Phones are creeping in at the moment and I encourage parents to please support the Mobile Phone Policy, ensuring that the students do not bring their phones to school. Phones are not allowed on the buses either and it would be greatly appreciated if the students adhered to this

Attendance: Attendance is very high at OSGGC when compared to other campuses. All students do their part in ensuring that they come to school. If a student needs to take leave for any reason, such as an appointment through the school day, please can I ask that parent's email Mr Goodfellow to seek leave. When leave is granted, please can this be entered into Sentral ahead of time.

Academic Goals

Stage 6 have been working on academic goals for their subjects as they commence HSC content.

These goal setting conversations with their teachers is a vital component to getting the best possible marks and plans in place for the remainder of the year. Parents are encouraged to have a conversation with their children about the goals that have been set.

Students in Years 7, 9 and 11 from Illawarra Campus joined us yesterday for OSG Aware Session 1. Staff and students enjoyed socialising with each other.

Many thanks to our mums who oversaw morning tea and lunch.

We’re pleased to introduce a new way to share your child(ren’s) House Points’ achievements.

From 11 May, parents will have access to the House Points dashboard in OnePortal. The dashboard will include the reason for the award, total House Points they have been awarded to date, their current Merit Certificate level, and how many points are needed to reach the next level.

House Points are at the heart of OneSchool Global’s student award program, to recognise notable achievements aligned with our Student Persona. This year we are encouraging all students to ‘Go for Gold’ and achieve 60 House Points across the academic year.

Parents, make sure you have notifications enabled for OnePortal so you don’t miss the updates!
