It has been a busy but highly productive week on campus, and I want to thank our students, staff, and families for their continued commitment to creating a positive and engaging learning environment.

NAPLAN Completed

Congratulations to our Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students for completing NAPLAN. Thank you also to the staff involved in administering the assessments so smoothly. We look forward to using the data - alongside MAP results and ongoing subject assessments - as part of our continuous improvement processes to strengthen teaching and learning across the school.

Green Day

Well done to the Student Leadership Team (SLT) for planning, organising and running today's 'Green Day.' Periods 1 - 4 were 'business as usual' for students, with excitement a little higher than usual! Following the morning lessons, students put on green accessories, enjoyed a delicious lunch and took part in an afternoon of fun activities. All money raised will go towards the SLT's fundraising goal of $10000. Congratulations to the SLT and thank you to Mr Shane Price for the excellent mentorship and support he is providing to the group.

Primary Athletics Carnival – Tuesday 24 March

Our Primary Athletics Carnival will be held at the University of the Sunshine Coast. We are looking forward to a fun day of healthy competition and community spirit.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Wednesday 25 March (2:00–5:00 pm) – Face‑to‑face, all teachers located in the Middle School Learning Centre for ease of access.

Thursday 26 March (8:00 am–4:00 pm) – Zoom and face‑to‑face for Primary (in Primary classrooms). Secondary interviews will be Zoom only.

This is a pupil‑free day, and we strongly encourage all families to book interviews with their child’s teachers.

Parent Assembly & Afternoon Tea – Thursday 2 April at 1:00pm

You are warmly invited to join us during Period 5 for a parent assembly and afternoon tea. This will be a wonderful opportunity to thank Mr Tom Percasky for his service and leadership at OSG Brisbane and to celebrate his appointment as our Regional Principal for Queensland.

Our Secondary students will have their turn to shine at their Athletics Day, again at the University of the Sunshine Coast. We look forward to seeing their enthusiasm, teamwork, and athletic prowess on display.

Blake Archer Year 11

Blake Archer in Year 11 on the Brisbane campus. Year 11 is very different from Year 10. There is more responsibility, which is a positive change as it helps hold us accountable for our learning. This year, I am completing general subjects, which allows me to focus more time and effort on each one. I have found that with explicit planning, I am able to work more effectively towards achieving my goals. I am also looking forward to attending Green Day and participating in the athletics carnival.

This term has been filled with creativity, curiosity, and hands-on learning as students explored exciting new experiences across Science, Technology, and the Arts.

In Science and Technology lessons, students have been incredibly excited to explore Scratch 3 coding and our new LEGO® Spike kits. Through these hands‑on activities, they are developing important abstract and critical thinking skills that help them solve complex problems in creative ways. Our LEGO® Lab is an exciting first for OSG, giving Primary students an engaging space to build, code, and collaborate.

In Art this term, students have been exploring Australian Indigenous-inspired artworks, focusing on the use of symbols and dot painting to tell stories. Students learned how traditional artworks often communicate ideas about place, nature, and community through visual symbols rather than written words.

For their final pieces, students created their own storytelling artworks by tracing shapes such as hands and leaves and surrounding them with carefully painted dot patterns and symbols. Through this process they explored pattern, colour, and storytelling while developing their painting skills.

The finished artworks beautifully combine symbol, pattern, and nature-inspired shapes to create meaningful visual stories.

Leila Loader

A group of our Year 12 students recently put their learning into action by running a series of market stalls as part of their studies. The project gave students the opportunity to develop real‑world skills by designing, creating, marketing and selling their own products.

Students were responsible for every aspect of the stalls, including creating the products, developing marketing and advertising materials, setting prices and engaging with customers. The range of items on offer was impressive and included drinks, pet rocks, plants, cookies and keyrings, with something to appeal to everyone.

The market stalls were a fantastic example of creativity, teamwork and entrepreneurship, providing students with hands‑on experience in business and customer service. The enthusiasm shown by the students was matched by the strong support from staff and students who came along to make purchases and encourage their efforts.

Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative. Your involvement helped make the experience meaningful and successful for our students, and we are proud of the way they applied their learning in such a practical and engaging way.

Green Day was a fantastic success, with lots of students getting involved and showing great school spirit. Congratulations to Mustangs for winning the House competition, and to Year 10 for taking out Best Accessorised Class with Year 5/6 running a close second. It was great to see so many people joining in and helping create a fun and positive atmosphere around the campus.

We are also really pleased to see students enjoying Monday Mashup each week. It has been a great way to start Mondays with energy, connection, and a bit of fun.

The SLT is excited to keep building a strong and positive campus culture, and we look forward to running more events throughout the term. "Our Year 7s have burst into high school with the kind of enthusiasm that makes the rest of us wonder where they’re getting all that energy from. They’ve dived head‑first into new subjects, embraced fresh ideas, and are currently at the absolute peak of busyness as assessment season kicks into gear. Between drafting, designing, experimenting, and occasionally discovering that yes, deadlines do arrive faster than expected, this cohort has shown resilience, creativity, and a brilliant sense of humour.

It’s been a fabulous start to their high‑school journey, and if this is how they tackle Term 1, we can only imagine what they’ll achieve next.

Year 8 Students have begun their Feast Assignment, focusing on food waste. We kicked things off with spaghetti bolognese, using a combination of lentils and beef mince, packed with vegetables. Throughout this, students are putting their health and safety practices into action while exploring creative ways to use commonly wasted ingredients.

Girls: Junior dress with white academic socks (preferred); or Junior pinafore with short-sleeve blouse.

Hair Accessories: Only items from the approved uniform catalogue (scrunchies, clips, ribbons, bows).

Senior Students (Years 7–12)

We are excited to begin the Enrichment Program for our Year 10–12 students. This program provides a valuable opportunity for senior students to take greater responsibility for their learning as they move into their final years of school.

The Enrichment Program aims to:

Build strong time‑management and organisational skills

Encourage students to become more independent learners

Provide a quiet, focused environment with minimal distractions

Help students make the most of their study time and prepare for life beyond school

Today, our Year 10–12 students took part in an Enrichment Program orientation session. This helped them understand the purpose of the program and the expectations they will need to follow.

Students have been given the documents needed to enrol in the program, including the Student Enrichment Contract. This contract must be signed by a parent/carer and clearly outlines what is expected of students while participating in Enrichment.

Choosing an Enrichment Day
Students are expected to select one day each week that is most suitable for them to be off campus.
They should ensure:

They do not have any practical subjects on that day

They do not have assessment scheduled

They are working by themselves and not with other students

Their chosen day allows them to make the best use of their study time

Year 10 Students will start with on Enrichment Day per fortnight

Planning Requirements
To participate, students must create and submit an effective Enrichment Plan outlining how they will use their Enrichment Day.

We have high expectations around:

Completing and submitting this plan

Using the time productively.

Attending any scheduled classes or commitments on Enrichment days

Expectations are outlined in greater detail in the Student Enrichment Contract.

It is important to note that Enrichment days are not a compulsory program. Students can choose to participate or not.

We are aiming to begin the Enrichment Program in Week 6.

The Secondary Athletics Carnival will be held on Wednesday, 1 April, at the University of the Sunshine Coast Athletics Track. Students are asked to arrive from 8:30am, with official announcements and house chants beginning at 8:45am. Events will commence promptly at 9:00am.

Please note that students are to travel direct to and from the event.

Throughout the day, students will participate in the following athletics disciplines: Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus, 100m, and 200m. In addition, the 400m and 800m events will be available as optional races for students wishing to take part.

The carnival will conclude with a presentation at 1:00pm, where year group champions and the overall winning house will be announced.

Students are to wear their house shirt and appropriate athletic footwear. Students should also bring a water bottle, hat, sunscreen, and a packed lunch.

It is an expectation that students attend the interviews with you, as hearing feedback directly supports their learning, reflection, and goal setting. Students should attend interviews in full school uniform.

Appointments can be booked via the Parent Portal on Sentral.

Bookings will open on Monday 16 March and will close on Monday 23 March at 4:00 pm.

If you have multiple children with the same teacher, please ensure you make separate bookings for each child.

If you are unable to secure a suitable time or require a longer conversation, please contact your campus, and we will be happy to arrange an alternative meeting.

Thursday 26 March is a pupil‑free day, allowing families the flexibility to attend scheduled interviews throughout the day.
