Welcome back to everyone for Term 3. We are already at the end of Week 2, and the term has certainly started at a busy pace.

Thank you to all the parents who attended Parent Teacher Interviews on Wednesday and Thursday. The connection between families and teachers is incredibly valuable. It is important that students learn to receive constructive feedback, understand it and respond positively. Parents play an important role in supporting their child through this process.

Alongside teaching curriculum content, we are also encouraging students to develop the skills needed to become strong, self-directed learners. This includes being proactive in lessons, asking questions when they need clarification and regularly submitting tasks. Submitting work gives teachers a clearer understanding of each student’s progress and allows them to provide timely and meaningful feedback. Developing these habits now will help prepare students for future employment and life beyond school.

On Tuesday, 11 August, in Week 4 , I will be hosting a Parent Zoom session at 7.30 pm . This session will provide a step-by-step explanation of how to access your child’s assignment pages, submissions, marks and teacher feedback.

This access is designed to strengthen the connection between home and school. It also gives families the opportunity to support their child with upcoming due dates, task completion and revision.

As part of our campus strategic plan, we have set a goal for more than 80 per cent of families to spend at least 20 minutes reviewing each child’s assignment pages by the end of Term 3. Further information and the Zoom link will be shared with families shortly.

Week 5 will also be an important week, with our Year 12 students completing their HSC Trial Examinations and students in Years 3–11 participating in the second round of MAP testing.

Following the first round of MAP testing, all students set individual learning goals. Over the coming weeks, students will use homeroom time to review their progress, adjust their goals where needed and focus on the actions required to achieve them.

Families should have received a MAP Family Report following the first round of testing in Term 1. Should you be unable to locate your child’s report, please contact Mrs Booth, who will be happy to resend it.

Congratulations to all students in Years 7 to 10 who participated in the 2026 Australian Geography Competition. This national competition challenges students to apply their geographical knowledge and understanding of the world around them, while developing valuable critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

We are proud of the enthusiasm and commitment shown by our participants as they took on the challenge and represented our campus. Their willingness to engage in learning beyond the classroom reflects a positive attitude towards academic growth and excellence. Well done to all students who participated.

What a wonderful and busy start to Term 3! It has been fantastic to see students settle back into their routines so quickly. Classrooms have been buzzing with enthusiasm and students have already shown great engagement in their new learning and assignments.

In English, students have commenced their new class texts and are enjoying exploring the stories, characters and themes within them. Throughout the term, students will be developing their writing skills by learning how to create engaging and informative information reports.

Our Science focus this term is on bees and the vital role they play in our environment. Students are discovering why bees are so important for pollination, food production and maintaining healthy ecosystems. This has generated plenty of curiosity and thoughtful discussion in the classroom.

In Art, students have been closely examining the features of bees, including their physical characteristics and habitats. They have already produced some incredible bee drawings this week, demonstrating careful observation and attention to detail. We look forward to sharing more of their creative work as the term progresses.

Tennis has now commenced as our Friday sport program. Students have been working enthusiastically with Mr Burey, developing their tennis skills, coordination and sportsmanship while enjoying being active outdoors.

Next week, we are pleased to welcome Miss Ruby Tighe, a University of New England practicum student. who will be joining Mr Newman and Stage 2 for the next four weeks. We are excited to have her working alongside our students and staff and hope she enjoys her time with us.

A reminder that Book Week is in Week 6. Please continue collecting and sending in jars for our Story Jar Activity and Competition. We are looking forward to welcoming families and friends on Friday 28 August from 9:00am to 11:15am for a morning of creativity, including the Story Jar activity, our Character Parade and light refreshments. It promises to be a wonderful celebration of books, imagination and storytelling and we hope to see many of you there.

Term 3 will see the return of Book Week , and we have so much planned for the children to look forward to:

Book Week will run during Week 6 starting Monday 24th August

Along with the opportunity to dress up as a favourite book character, students will also participate in another book themed creative competition.

What is Story in a Jar?

A Story in a Jar can be either a miniature scene – similar to the Book Nook diorama but with a 360-degree view OR a collection of clues that viewers piece together to guess the book title.

Story Jar creations often depict scenes from a fictional world, but they can be truly anything at all your imagination is the only limit!

Students will create their jar or bottle during class time during Book Week in Week 6 with the support of their class teachers and parent volunteers – FRIDAY 28 AUGUST

Preparation Before Week 6:

• Choose a favourite book as the basis of their entry.
• Decide whether to recreate a favourite scene or include clues, objects, to form a puzzle to be guessed.
• Collect a suitable plastic jar or bottle. Maximum Size (Regional Limit: Volume: 3L Dimensions 21cm (h) x 16cm (w).
• Begin gathering special materials and props (students will have access to the usual school art and craft supplies)
• Decide on their Book Week dress-up character

Once completed, the jars will be displayed in Primary classrooms/studios and Learning Centres. A campus slideshow will also be created for newsletters and shared for all to enjoy.

The Competition Element

All students will have the opportunity to make a Story jar, but participation in the competition is optional.

Class teachers and Primary Lead Teachers will judge entries based on the competition guide and select Campus Winners using the following parameters:

• For campuses with 20 Primary students and under up to 1 winner will be selected per year group
• For campuses with 21-50 Primary Students there will be 2 winners per year group,
• And campuses with over 50 students there will be 3 winners per year group. Students may work individually or in a small team (max 3).

Campus Winners will then proceed to a National Final where the:

• Top 3 will be selected for Years 3-4
• Top 3 for 5-6 will be chosen.

The prizes:

• 1st prize $75 book voucher
• 2nd prize $50 book voucher
• 3rd prize $25 book voucher.

Today, our campus came together to celebrate School Principal's Day and recognise the dedication and leadership of our Principal, Mr Travers.

Students proudly presented Mr Travers with a special card filled with messages of appreciation, sharing their thanks for the care, support, and encouragement he provides each day. Along with the card, students also gave a small token of appreciation as a gesture of gratitude for all he does for our school community.

Members of the Student Leadership Team spoke on behalf of the students, expressing their heartfelt thanks and acknowledging Mr Travers' commitment to creating a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to grow, achieve, and thrive.

It was a wonderful opportunity for students and staff to recognise the impact of Mr Travers' leadership and to show how much he is valued by our school community. We thank Mr Travers for his dedication and wish him a very happy School Principal's Day.

The Green Lions have claimed the 2026 Global House Cup Season 1 title , securing their sixth championship since the competition began in 2017.

From January to June, students across North America, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Argentina, and Europe demonstrated the qualities of the OSG Quality Student Persona , with staff submitting 216,398 recognitions celebrating students who went above and beyond. These submissions highlighted attributes such as Living the Values, Being Self-Directed, Taking Ownership, Solving Problems, and Maintaining a Positive Attitude.

The competition was one of the closest in Global House Cup history, with just 227 points separating first and third place . The final standings were:

1. Lions – 72,333 points
2. Mustangs – 72,109 points
3. Bears – 72,106 points

Congratulations to the Lions on their well-earned victory and thank you to everyone for making the Global House Cup such a meaningful celebration of student achievement and character. We look forward to another exciting season ahead.

Following our announcement earlier last week, we would like to remind parents that we’re transitioning to Flexischools, our new canteen online ordering and payment solution on Monday 10th August .

This exciting initiative supports our transition towards a primarily cashless canteen service, making ordering and payments simpler, safer, and more convenient for our school community.

We’ll provide information on how to set up your Flexischools account along with training and support materials in the weeks ahead. Please reach out to us if you have any questions in the meantime.

Following a successful pilot at our Sydney Australia campus, our campus has a new volunteer structure called the Campus Support Team (CST), which comes into effect on day one of the new school year. This replaces the previous Campus Board and Campus Administrator roles and is part of a global initiative to simplify our volunteer operations while strengthening community support.

The CST consists of three members aligned to Pastoral Care, Culture, and Operations & Buildings. This transition strengthens community support, streamlines volunteer roles, and ensures consistent processes across all campuses.

Our new CST team is:

OSG Armidale Campus is inviting community members to spend a rostered day on campus to support the Campus Community Support (CCS) program. We warmly invite members of our wider community to get involved — including grandparents, uncles, aunts and other family members — in addition to parents.

The role of the CCS is to provide a positive influence for the campus and to support school staff in view of them maintaining and upholding the ethos and values of the community. An important part of the CCS role is to be seen but not interfering, on the alert and helpful to the staff and students at all times.

Community Campus Support (CCS) personnel must complete the Volunteer Induction including a valid Working with Children Check.
