Update from the Campus Principal

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe we have reached the halfway point of the term. With Years 7–11 examinations only two weeks away, now is the time for students to begin preparing seriously for their assessments. Regular revision, completing practice questions, reviewing notes and making good use of tutorials can all help students feel more confident and achieve their best possible results. I encourage all students to develop a study plan and make the most of the time available over the coming fortnight.

It has been fantastic to see and hear about the learning taking place in Primary this term. Students have been busy working on persuasive letter writing and history projects, with many producing work of an exceptionally high standard. It is clear that a great deal of time, effort and pride has gone into these tasks, and our students should be congratulated on the quality of their work. Thank you also to our primary staff for creating engaging learning experiences that allow students to showcase their skills and creativity.

As the colder weather begins to settle in, it has been pleasing to see students continuing to stay active through sport. Our Primary students have been enjoying their gymnastics program this term. While the gymnastics venue can be a little chilly on winter days, students have embraced the opportunity to learn new skills, improve their coordination and challenge themselves in a range of activities.

In Secondary Sport, students have recently moved from outdoor tennis to indoor pickleball. The change has been well received, with students enjoying the fast-paced nature of the game. Through team-based activities and friendly round-robin competitions, students have had plenty of opportunities to develop their skills, work together and enjoy some healthy competition.

Student recognition

At OneSchool Global Armidale, we celebrate students who embody the qualities of our student persona. Each time a student demonstrates these admirable traits, they receive a Persona ticket acknowledging their efforts, and a positive persona house point is awarded.

Furthermore, every Wednesday, excitement fills the air as one primary and one secondary student's ticket is drawn, granting them the delightful reward of a block of chocolate. Congratulations to our deserving recipients, and may your dedication to excellence continue to inspire others around you.

Primary spotlight

It has been another busy and productive fortnight in our classroom, with all students working hard and showing great enthusiasm across their learning.

In Mathematics, students have been focusing on chance, equations and multiplication, building a range of effective strategies to support their understanding. It has been wonderful to see students applying these strategies with increasing confidence and accuracy.

In English, students have continued to thoroughly enjoy our class novels.

Stage 2 has been reading Storm Boy, while

Stage 3 has been exploring Rabbit, Soldier, Angel, Thief.

Students have been making thoughtful connections to characters, plot events and their own experiences, leading to rich discussions. They have also been responding to these texts through a range of writing tasks, where they are practising clearly expressing their ideas, organising their thoughts and using evidence from the text to support their responses.

Our Science lessons have been a highlight this fortnight! Students have continued exploring the three states of matter and had so much fun conducting a hands-on gas experiment. By creating mini volcanoes using bicarbonate soda and vinegar, students observed the reaction and watched their eruptions with great excitement while developing their scientific understanding.

Stage 2 students also participated enthusiastically in their OSG Aware sessions, where they learned important strategies to help keep themselves safe. A big thank you to Trent for joining us and supporting this valuable learning experience. We look forward to Stage 3’s session next week.

It has been wonderful to see the continued effort, curiosity and positivity from all students as we move through the term.

Pickleball Takes Centre Court!

Last week's PE lesson required a little creativity when our scheduled tennis coaching session was cancelled. To ensure students remained active and continued developing their movement skills in line with the PDHPE syllabus, we introduced a new sport to the program – pickleball!

Armed with newly purchased pickleball paddles and balls, students participated in a round-robin competition that quickly became a highlight of the term. The fast-paced games provided opportunities to develop hand-eye coordination, teamwork, strategic thinking and sportsmanship, while ensuring everyone remained engaged and active.

The students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and had a fantastic time learning the rules and refining their skills. We may have even uncovered a few future pickleball champions! It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another, demonstrating resilience and enjoying a new sporting experience.

SLT Report

Over the past two weeks, the SLT have been working on initial conversations for the upcoming Activity Day on the 3rd of July. The students and teachers alike are excited for the day. Students from 7-11 are preparing for Week 8 exams, utilising the Learning Centre and the L2L framework to the best of our abilities. Students have also been involved in organising the sports cage and assembling new storage racks to better organise our sports equipment. Shoutout to the Year 7 kids for displaying diligence and creativity in making their wooden homes for Tech Mandatory.

Mission Nutrition at Armidale Campus

Campus Community Support (CCS) Program

OSG Armidale Campus is inviting community members to spend a rostered day on campus to support the Campus Community Support (CCS) program. We warmly invite members of our wider community to get involved — including grandparents, uncles, aunts and other family members — in addition to parents.

The role of the CCS is to provide a positive influence for the campus and to support school staff in view of them maintaining and upholding the ethos and values of the community. An important part of the CCS role is to be seen but not interfering, on the alert and helpful to the staff and students at all times.

Community Campus Support (CCS) personnel must complete the Volunteer Induction including a valid Working with Children Check.

Staff are thankful for your support! Your presence will be noticed by the students, and it will have an effect. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Travers.
